Need help on defense
Hey guys.
So I just finished my first season as HC of the Bills and it went as expected with us finishing 8-8. My problem is that my defense was rated #1 against the rush, but #30 against the pass. I just could not stop teams from killing me through the air! So i'm looking for some tips if you guys can help me out. I was playing an attacking 3-4 defense and did manage to rank in the top 5 in sacks. But teams constantly had guys wide open, sometimes for huge gains. Another thing i noticed is that even though I was using the 3-4 defense and play book, it would still show my starting line up in games as a 4-3? Will that never change I assume as Madden has the Bills classed as a 4-3 D? Thanks! |
Re: Need help on defense
I have a similar problem, but I think it's just a recurring problem playing Madden. It's easy to be ranked high against the run, usually being the top ranked team, but ranking low against the pass. I've read some of the sliders forums and adjusted my sliders for tighter coverage. My last game, I only allowed 167 passing yards against the Texans. Not a great passing team and they ran the ball a lot, but pretty good numbers considering I had been averaging 276 passing yards allowed per game.
But, there's some things we need to know to help you out. What kind of players do you have on your defense? A bunch of scrubs? Do you have good pass rushers and/ or good corners? Do you run a lot of man defense or zone? Is your team, mainly your defensive backs, suited for the type of defense you play? I'm asking because I have a good defense, but my cornerbacks are the weakest spot on my defense. And they're rated fairly low in man defense, so I run a lot of zone defense. Zone defense doesn't allow for a lot of blitzing, meaning the opposing QB has more time to complete passes which is usually easy against zone defense. Also, are your opponents giving up on the run and throwing the ball for like the entire second half? Because even if you have a good defense, it's hard to limit the amount of passing yards if the QB is just throwing all day. Even a crap QB can throw for 300 yards if given enough passing attempts. And usually if you can't run, you're forced to pass. If the opposing team runs the ball under 15 times, I would say they've abandoned the run and you're in for a long game with a lot of passing yards against you. And, last, are you playing good QBs? Look at your schedule and see who you've played. I was bitching about the amount of passing yards I'd been giving up, then I looked at my schedule and I realized it could have been a lot worse. I had played Matt Stafford, Drew Brees twice, Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers. These guys are known for putting up lots of passing yards, so unless you have a stellar defense, these guys are gonna put up big numbers. |
Re: Need help on defense
Just finished a game against Matt Ryan and the Falcons. They beat me 20-17. They put up 274 passing yards, but he threw the ball 44 times vs running the ball 10 times. Steven Jackson was averaging 4.4 ypc, so not too bad running the ball. But the CPU seems to lack balance and throws a lot, even when they're winning. This is part of the reason why a lot of times when you play the CPU, they put up a lot of passing yards.
