    Changing Coaching Schemes

I have been trying for the last hour to find a way to change the coaching scheme in this game.

I am the San Diego Chargers and I want to run a 4-3 defense but since they run a 3-4 i am only able to change the playbook.

This presents a problem when setting up my 4-3 defense as the 2nd DT on my team takes a humongous hit to the low 40's when i try and run a 4-3.

Is their anyway to change this so that I am able to run my 4-3 under scheme instead of the 3-4? it seems like it is locked into that 3-4 no matter what coach i try to change it to.

Can't you change all of this on the schemes CFM menu?

No, I can change the player types and everything but the problem is that it is set to 3-4 and i want it to be a 4-3.

      For example
I have one 1 DT instead of 2 like i would have in a 4-3. I wish there was a workaround for it because it ruins it because i cant run what i want.

Oh I get what you mean. Yeah I'm not sure how to do that. I noticed some teams have HB1 and HB2 for their schemes. I'm not sure how that works though. Sorry.

I think it's safe to say that it is broken. I've tried multiple different things to get it to work, and nothing gets it right. I've even changed my coach all together and it stays at whatever it was when you opened the game.

and even if you dont change it it shows 2 DTs as starters for the 9ers when they are 3-4, might be linked to owner change?

I think if you could possibly change the owner you could figure that out but you cannot change the owner.

You can retire the coach but not the owner, is there anyway to change from the beginning as far as the owner and what philosophy they use?

                  Re: Changing Coaching Schemes

I don't think what you're talking about is necessarily the "coaching scheme", which you can change in the strategy menu you're talking about, which effects your weekly goals, and also seems to effect XP (I have mine set to zone run, and 1 guy who seems to get XP faster than anyone despite being "Normal" development is my RG, Brandon Brooks, who I'm pretty sure is on the Texans and would have "zone run" as his scheme.)

What you're referring to is the slots in the strategy menu where you select what style you want your players to be, which effects their style specific ratings like size, phys, int.

These are as you say, locked and I don't think can be changed.

But it's the style you have set at DT 1 that is effecting your 2nd DT's ratings, not the lack of DT 2 style slot.

The 2nd slot doesn't seem to do anything.

For example I have WR 1 set at speed and Percy Harvin has great ratings, but if I have a blocking WR like Riley Cooper at WR 2, regardless of if I set the WR 2 slot to possession or red zone threat he's still going to have the poor style ratings because he's rated as a speed receiver.

The same goes for CB and I would imagine MLB and HB on the teams that have multiple slots.

I just got the game recently and started my 1st franchise, I was the Ravens but transferred my whole team to the Chargers after the fantasy draft for the uniforms.

Like you I run a 4-3 and had the same type of concerns.

My concern though isn't their ratings, it's the XP they get. My worry is that the guy in the 2nd DT slot doesn't get as much XP as he should.

I drafted Suh and Poe. Suh's style is Pass Rusher, Poe's is Nose Tackle.

If you set DT 1 to Pass Rusher Poe's rating drops and the same for Suh if you set it to Nose Tackle.

I think after setting DT1 to Run Stopper, it gave them both a rating of 95+. Suh's overall took a slight hit but he was still rated higher than Poe and they both had 99 or around it in the style ratings like size, phys etc.

But like I said my question is if this means my 2nd DT will not get as much XP as they should, which seems possible.

I've considered rotating them in the depth chart every game and even had the 2nd DT line up as the 2nd MLB which has a 2nd style slot in the strategy menu, and it's pretty funny seeing a 350 pound DT rumble down the field on kick off coverage, but it tires them out too quick.

                    Re: Changing Coaching Schemes

So basically the 2nd slot on the depth chart doesnt effect the game play or how he plays?

Pretty stupid that they could not add another slot when we change the damn scheme from a 34 to a 43.

                      Re: Changing Coaching Schemes

The 2nd DT slot doesn't effect his rating, the style in the 1st slot does

My concern is that the lack of the 2nd DT slot may cause the 2nd DT to get less XP

I don't expect much at all from EA, this year they atleast added a couple of the basic things they neglected in the past

                        Re: Changing Coaching Schemes

I'm thinking of switching to a 3-4 during the offseason when I can change positions because of this.

Poe is a natural fit as a 3-4 NT, or I can put Jesse Williams who I traded for there and put Poe and Suh as the 3-4 DEs.

Suh and Poe aren't making as many plays as I would like them to as DTs. I can collapse the OL into the QB when controlling them and force throws but I can't get to the QB with them.

Maybe lining them up as 3-4 DE's or over the nose will free them up some.
