A.I. offense improved from FIFA 13?

I have been reading a lot of posts where people say the CPU AI doesn't attack properly and efficiently. Getting into he box and back passing, not taking shots and so on. This was painful for me in 13.

I have been holding out for 14 for when I get a PS4, but I am considering getting it this week.

So how is the AI? Is there a way to make them more agressive and still balanced and realistic through sliders?

I have gone all the way back to FIFA 11 to get some good AI and it has been pretty good. Playing in my career I see realistic shot totals from both teams, and elite teams are very challenging.

I really want 14 but since the Blu-Ray laser is dying on my PS3, I will get it digital...therefore I can't return it or trade it in if I don't like it. I might play some online, but offline is my main squeeze.

So what do you guys think?

The good news is the CPU attacks more realistically than in FIFA 13. It doesn't just ping-pong the ball up the pitch each possession, but will take its time and even back pass etc. The bad news is the CPU now tends to mindlessly dribble back and forth and in circles, which leads to very few CPU chances. Plus, it's incredibly easy to take the ball away from the CPU now, you essentially just have to run into the CPU player to strip him.

It's okay for me because I'm not a great player, and I prefer the easier difficulty and the lower CPU shot totals (which is much more realistic IMO). But some people have been complaining that the game is just too easy this year due to the lack of CPU attack and the ease with which its possible to stop CPU attackers.

Yea, that doesn't seem very promising.

Definitely can't play the game out of the box - sliders will help. Check out Gonira's and Orion's - they've got a solid set of fundamentals within their sliders. Gonira's liverpool videos as well are promising!

There aren't any sliders to stop the excessive CPU dribbling, that's the problem. It can be fixed somewhat on the PC by lowering teams' Dribble rating (new rating this year), but that's not possible on the console version. Also, the number of long shots the CPU will take is a fraction of what they would take in FIFA 13, that's another issue that sliders can't fix.

Still FIFA 14 is a definite upgrade over 13. The game has some head-scratching programming bugs that 13 never had, but I could never go back to 13 after playing 14.

              Hey bangus!

Yes - true, true - the CPU dribbling is the reason the shots aren't there. I'll have to try that edit on the dribbling value, man. What value works? I have tried it at 1 - and didn't really create a difference.

The game needs just a little more start and stop. Meaning, it should be more standing versus just dribbling. It's more pass facing on - versus running onto the pass - and if it is a pass that isn't face on (facing the ball carrier) then it's one down the sides or over the top in space.

That's all that is needed for this game to be "perfect" imho.

For the OP - get FIFA 14, you'll enjoy it - and even more if you get the PC version

I feel like the AI is tougher and more aggressive compared to 13, but I still don't give up many goals in a season. I only play on the default difficulty and sliders though.

In last year's game I felt like it was too easy to knock off big teams even with a mediocre squad. In 14 I'll take a beating when I go up against elite competition.

Ok, ok. Nice stuff here guys. Few more questions...

1.) How does the CPU AI translate when controlling just your Pro in career mode? Since 10 other of my teammates are also AI controlled, does this equal competitive games?

2.) Is there are presentation difference for the Premier League from 13?

Thanks guys. I am starting to look forward to this purchase.

Right now I have team dribbling at 10. And I have players set at 1 dribbling, and 95 long pass, short pass and crossing. I find these settings more or less change the CPU attack and on-the-ball behaviour back to FIFA 13 levels.
