Currently, you are either going for a full-stretched poke-check or one animation for stick lift
Problem with not having a leaning or grinding animation stacks on top of the issue in not having "full-stick" control
Some examples:

The current problem is, when you activate any of these animations you begin gliding. Similar to stance that Radko Gudas can be seen in the above photo. However, unlike what we see in the EA Sports game, Gudas is leaning on Duchene causing Duchene to lose puck control, so Matt won't skate away with the puck

Examples:
In this photo, #10 Blue Jersey continues skating. #3 White Jersey activates the "stick lift" animation. #3 begins to glide.
It's pure physics. They say you will take a penalty if you do not keep your legs moving.
The game does not allow you to move your feet and use your stick at the same time.
The developers have half of it correct. It's okay to glide when you're in the stick lift animation. But you should only glide when you've got position with your opponent and begin leaning/ grinding... which the game does not allow.
