Is nhl 14 worth the jump from NHL 13? Goal scoring easier?
I know what some purists will say... That they hate easier goal scoring. But is nhl 14 goal scoring really easier? I'm okay with that . NHL 13 can be infuriating and I am thinking about making the jump for easier goal scoring and a Fighting and hit system that is much better/fun. Is all of this true? Is it worth the jump?Tags: None -
Re: Is nhl 14 worth the jump from NHL 13? Goal scoring easier?
Think of it this way. It's NHL 13.5 with better hitting/fighting system.
I pay roughly $40 each year for the game (E3 deal), and I would say $40 is worth the upgrade each year considering I play online.
But if you're an offline player, just looking for a better hitting/fighting system. Then no stick with NHL 13. It's more or less the same game. -

Well after playing NHL 14 all day... Man ohhhhh man is scoring easier ... One timers are hard but shots top corner go in at will. I like it much better then 13'. Hated the super goaliesComment

In '14 you generally get rewarded for creating better chances and you will score more from the areas in which you should score from. On '13 I would play a World Tournament as USA or Canada and in the first round out shoot Japan 60-10 and win 2-1 beacuse of super goalie. And my 60 shots would be from between the circles. That doesn't happen as much on '14.
If scoring is too easy just move down the shooting accuracy slider."It's a dog-eat-dog world and I'm wearing Milk-Bone underwear."

Building off the original question.....how much of a jump is '14 from '11 for a "Casual" offline only player? Prior to '11, my previous version was '08, and frankly I didn't notice a huge difference between those two (as I mentioned, I am a pretty casual NHL player, so there are probably many details I am not educated enough to notice). And it seems that much of the recent effort has gone towards online modes which I don't use.Comment

Great ride.......I feel 13 is the closet to sim I ever have experienced. Goals are not nearly as easy......but I do have games I score a lot and some games I don't.
I am using TNK's Pro Sliders, with Auto Aim and some of my own personal tweaks here and there. The game is smooth, fun and feels realisitc for me and I am a casual Hockey fan/gamer.
I had read too much about bouncing pucks, and far easier goal scoring in 14. I also dont care about fighting in Hockey. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Is nhl 14 worth the jump from NHL 13? Goal scoring easier?
NHL 13 is the greatest hockey game ever IMHO. With the basketball puck and ease of scoring, NHL 14 was a step backwards.
To each their own though. The fighting gets bored really fast and the skating engine in NHL 13 is so much better than in 14.
In NHL 13 I have games where I score 6 goals and then games when I score 1 or 2, even a shutout here and there.Comment

It really is a personal choice, about what makes a game "fun" to you. For me, the series peaked with NHL 10 and has been pretty stagnant since. I only play offline BeAGM, and there has been very little change since 10 in this area. Yes, puck and hitting physics are incrementally better each yeaer, so now they are better than they were in 10, but, for me, the game has never been more "fun" than 10. I envy you folks who were smart enough to buy every other year. I bought the game each year (including this one), and each year felt like I got taken. The advancement from year to year, to me, is not nearly worth the price of a new game.Comment

Is there a version that....and I hate using this cliche....but a version that feels more "Organic"? than the others. Where gameplay has more randomness/outcomes to it?
And again, I am very casual with the game, so that may have something to do with it? But on '11, it seems like everytime up the ice the CPU and I do the same things over and over.Comment

The New Tru-Skate engine on 13 makes the game feel more organic to me. I know the difference between Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell.....you truly feel that now.
So that alone really changed the game for me big time from 11 to 13. The hitting was toned down as well because of momentum. You are not able to just get a head of steam in an instant and lay the wood on the boards. You have to know who your skating with....and you will whiff more....and it will cost you. The forecheck feels better.....everything just feels better with true momentum skating.
It took me a good 25-30 games to get used to it from 11. But once I learned how to glide effectively.....it has been hockey heaven ever since.
game outcomes do feel varied for me as well. Some games I am just deadly from the slot, some games I am struggling to keep the CPU out of my zone, sometimes I have to adjust to a good forechecking team. I really feel and see the difference between grinders, two ways and snipers etc.
NHL 13 is truly a gem of a game......by far my favorite hockey game ever. Now Playing on PS5:

there are at least 10 years that I had not fun with a hockey as nhl14 give me this year, very fun and realistic videogames this year better than 13 just my opinionComment

Re: Is nhl 14 worth the jump from NHL 13? Goal scoring easier?
I would say it is. Shots from the slot have a much higher chance of going in this year than last year. Skating also feels faster and smoother as well, which I prefer. I respect the true performance skating engine, but the controls felt a little too unresponsive and I never really felt comfortable with it.
NHL 13 was a valiant effort, but it fell short on many levels. Too many times I played games where a person was rewarded for having the puck bounce off their ***, while the guy who puts himself in scoring position would get robbed in so many different ways. Hockey is a gritty game yes, but NHL 13 was almost all grit and didn't really reward offensive creativity.Comment

Re: Is nhl 14 worth the jump from NHL 13? Goal scoring easier?
So for someone that likes sim-style play as opposed to just tons of hits and goals, is NHL14 a good fit? I currently own NHL09 and NHL12...and I still think I prefer 09 as far as finding a good balance. NHL12 feels too all or nothing to me. I either win too easily or seem to get slaughtered by cheap AI and the CPU deciding I must lose.
How would you guys say NHL13 and 14 compare in that aspect? Is it worth buying one of those or should I wait and see what NHL15 brings to the table?Comment

Re: Is nhl 14 worth the jump from NHL 13? Goal scoring easier?
Quoting myself I know but...when I bought NHL12 it was mainly to try online play but all the figure skating ruined that awfully fast so I changed to HUT. About 20 games of that utter frustration and I pretty much never touched the game until this week. Got BaGM going and on top of finding the AI and difficulty to be somewhat inconsistent, the game has been freezing every 2-3 games. So I've finally had enough and won't be playing it again. It's either back to season 4 '09 BAP or I pick up 13 or 14 and start all over. Does anyone think 13 or 14 is worth picking up in comparison to the debacle 12 turned out to be?So for someone that likes sim-style play as opposed to just tons of hits and goals, is NHL14 a good fit?
