I need Defense!!!! Any suggestions?

I playing with the Lakers in my Association. I have inside scoring with a dominate Center and outside scoring with my SG (think Kobe and Shaq). I feel like I made a big mistake in bringing in Rudy Gay as a free agent. He plays no defense and I'm thinking about trading him and it's only December in my Association. I need a defensive stopper at the SF. Who should I target as that SF defensive stopper. I'm thinking about Michael Kidd-Gilchrist as that guy. What do you all think?

But MKG wouldn't be a bad trade for Rudy Gay

Losing Gay might hurt your Offense a bit but MGK can guard the 2 and the 3

I was shocked to see you have Kobe playing the Point but just looking at your roster don't you think Your scoring production will go down if you trade Gay and with Kobe getting up there in age

I'm not too much worried about scoring, because Joseph can do everything Gay can do, plus I have an inside presence. I think I need a better bench. I'm thinking MKG and a 6th man that can put it in the hoop.

When I put Kobe at the point I was thinking about the size advantage I would have over small guards. I post him up and it's over. I remember Phil Jackson would go with the big point guard when he had Ron Harper with the Bulls and the Lakers. Plus Joseph is the heir to the Throne. I play inside outside ball, so offensively I'm ok because I still have Pau giving me decent numbers as well.

Try to get Deng. He's a good defender and can also help with the scoring. He's a good overall player but can be had in a trade

I think MKG is cheaper than Deng and they basically have the same overall rating at this point. Plus MKG is younger than Deng. I think Deng is 30 at this point in my association and MKG is 22 or 23.

Offensively I feel I would be ok, but I need stops at the SF position because LeBron, Melo, Harden, etc so is destroying my Defense. Rudy Gay is getting lit up by these guys. MKG will give the Lakers some scoring but that is not what I need. I rather have stops. If I can hold a team Under 100 points, I can win.
The Lakers are 14-6 but could easily be 18-2.

2. what's gay's ovr rating at the moment?

i really feel you need another point though but if it's working out for you then maybe its not necessary.

6'6 and a 72 defensive rating
Gay is rated 87 overall
Kobe is rated 85 at this point in his career.

I think Kobe is going to retire. This is also the last year of his contract. I feel like if I can get MKG and develop him right he can be a third option for me when it comes to scoring.

Gay is actually a pretty good defender. IIRC his on ball defense and defensive awareness are in the 80's. He also has the Interceptor skill.

You may not have to entirely replace Rudy Gay to get a defensive stopper at small forward. There are a few options worth considering who can be had for relatively cheap trade costs:

Shane Battier (may be listed at PF in-game)
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
Danny Green (may be listed at SG in-game)
Chris Singleton (may be listed at PF in-game)
Thabo Sefolosha (most likely listed at SG in-game)

You could always keep Rudy and use him as a 6th man. Or, if you decide to start him you can bring one of these stoppers off the bench to boost your defense.
