When do you think Live will actually be able to compete with the other game?

I have been away from these forums for a little bit, and I noticed that it has died down a bit. I wanted to bring up a topic to help get this section going again, so when do you guys actually think Live will be able to compete with the other game because they have alot of work to do? Last they have to figure out a way to make the game generate productive sales.

Both games have alot of work to do. Neither represents sim basketball.

if they want to compete in sales? graphics. if they make it look pretty it will sell.

if they want to compete in the long run? keep focused on user feedback and stay the course of trying to create realistic basketball.

I am hopeful NBA Live will one day be able to come all the way back and create a very feasible & fully functional alternative. It'd be nice to have a safety net in case a game we typically count on does not come through in a given year.

In terms of when Live may reach that point, I have a really tough time prognosticating such a return. They seem to be generally on the right track now, but it's tough to tell where they'll end up peaking. I keep thinking about the Triple Play/MVP Baseball transition, and that gives me hope, but I just can't tell where it's going to go from here.

I don't think there's such a dramatic hill to overcome. Compared to live 14 and 2k, yeh. But I just see the latter as slightly above average, and live as below average, as well as behind times--of their own game's at that.

So I'd say whenever they get serious and produce a game up to date on crap, a game that's complete, they'll be just behind the field--and that could be any given year; could've should've been this past year.
But yeh, the difference overall may be huge: graphics, content, gameplay, and ai combined, but just hitting the right notes on gameplay would put it back in the fight.
Then again, this post is assuming the other game's next game remains similar to its last. All about effort, and know-how. One game has a Greg Popo/spurs themed organization, while the other has a Mike Woodson/Isaiah/knicks organization. Trapped in a box of its past. Laced up with no vaseline.

Re: When do you think Live will actually be able to compete with the other game?

I hope it is soon, I really want there to be a viable option to compete with 2K because the direction they are going is not good.

To NBA Live's credit, it seems as if over past couple of months they are listening to us (the consumers) more which is a good thing.

I have faith, they have a decent foundation to build on. I like the modes they have in place, they need to fix a few things:

            1) Graphics
            2) Gameplay is a huge issue, fix the player movement, input lag, etc.
            3) Need new cameras, this is a huge issue for me. I need the 2K camera in NBA Live! (called something different but similar please)
            4) Editing options

Other than these things, anything else they improve upon is just icing right now. They need to get the core stabalized before adding fluff. Btw, other than the lack of legends and historic players, Ultimate Team blows 2K's MyTeam to shreds. Their MyPlayer (whatever it's called) type mode is pretty terrible though

I've been back and forth with this game for a long time. I'm gonna give it one more try today. I have had it twice and returned it both times (bought pre-owned both times) and for some reason there is a part of me that keeps coming back to this game...probably because of the Ultimate Team. Would like to try out their "Career Mode." Just ordered online from Walmart for in-store pickup...I'm gonna go get it after work and give it a serious go this time. Probably won't play too much tonight because of the Heat-Pacers game but I'm going to keep this game and find the good as many of you have.

Compete, for me, represents Live getting to a point where it's a fully functioning basketball game, where folks could select it as their NBA video game of choice and not feel like they're slumming or trying to simply make do.

I haven't bought an NBA Live since 2000, but I played a few demos around 2009 or 2010. At that point, I still preferred 2K but it seemed like Live had a pretty cool product in their own right, no? It seemed like people were going either way depending upon what kind of basketball they preferred. In the last few years, due to the overall quality of product, or lack thereof, it seems as though it's been tough (or in some years impossible) to claim there were two worthy options. It'd be nice to get back to that realm.

Re: When do you think Live will actually be able to compete with the other game?

                    So my verdict so far:

I want to like this game because of my love for basketball, some of the things they do well, and the flaws with 2K...but I just can't really get past a few glaring issues/enjoy this game.

                    1) Other than the graphics (which we know about and I'm sure will be fixed to be on 2K's level next year) the gameplay is just bad in my opinion. It seems way too easy to score, the animations are terrible, and everyone seems to move so stiff. The game just doesn't seem fluid but I do think they have a good foundation to build on.

                    2) The input lag is AWFUL and literally ruins the game for me. I can't really play a game as it feels like a chore and is not fun at all. There is really no excuse for this especially with a "next-gen" game. (also the passing bug glitch is really bad)

                    3) The cameras are bad, I know I have been very vocal about this and even created a thread for it. The Baseline cams are terrible and should not have you behind the basket on defense, I can barely see where the hoop is if I try to block a shot. I can't play on the broadcast cams, I need to be able to see the whole court as if I'm playing, standing above my player, or reversed when on defense.

                    4) Some great features, Rising Star Mode is a great building block. There are lot of things that it does well that 2K does not. The progression system seems to be better and you get rewarded for actually playing a game. You can simulate any game which I LOVE and all of the stats/awards/standings screens work. The grading system is a bit poorly constructed in my opinion and so are the lack of attributes. Many attributes seemed to be generalized and I think need to be more specific such as 2K.

                    5) Ultimate Team- Awesome mode in my opinion, only a few things that I'd like to see worked on. The ratings and category breakdowns of players in this mode isn't great. There are literally so many gold players so when you buy a gold premium pack and get guaranteed gold players, more often than not it's someone who is like a 79-82 not an 86+. Maybe just add an extra tier if they are going to go this route. A lot of the players are rated way too high or low in general...why is Otto Porter an 80? Are you serious...and why is Magic Johnson only a 91? Porter should be at best a 68-69 and Magic should be a 95. Would love to hear others thoughts on this! I would like to see Live have more players or whole historic teams similar to 2K, packs are better priced in this game though. (My favorite part of this mode is that it keeps track of your record and the amount of offline games/challenges/tourneys there are)

Overall I think that Live has some great modes/features but just needs to go more detailed. I think this game was a VERY rough title that was released to remind people that they still have an NBA license and are trying for the future. I will be purchasing Live 15 because I think it will improve and there is a huge window of opportunity to win some customers back with 2K's overwhelming lack of care for its customers.

                    I give this game a 6.2/10

I agree with your post, but do they really have the money to throw away to accomplish that latter goal at the moment. You can say that 2k built their game from the bottom to top, but they were never in the position that EA is in with this game. EA has lost alot of money on this game already when they did not release a game for three straight years form 2010 to 2013 and still had to pay the NBA for their portion of the license. They have to figure out a way to make this game sell productively as soon as possible, and the only way that happens is if they bring a newer more realistic polish visually.

Personally I think the other company was testing things out for 2k14. I don't think they will make the same mistake next year. They will do something this October to win people back over to them. Live missed out this year, and will potentially pay for this in the future because you never lower yourself or product in front of the competition.

They might be trying stuff out which is fine for me and it was the first game on a completely new system so those are always kinda eh...but what you cannot dispute is their complete disregard for the consumers.

Their support team is awful and never resolves anything, servers are complete and utter trash and always have been, the whole game has become a big micro-transaction, and yet all they seem to do is hype things. Honestly their PR and marketing people need raises from all this VC money they are getting, they do their job WELL.

While I still feel 2K is the better game to play and I think it will be next year, I think 2K has also alienated a lot of fans/consumers with their installment this year.

Just realized my whole post was about 2K...sorry guys. How this ties into Live, I think they have a window they must capitalize on NOW.

I just don't buy it. I keep hearing people say that 2k14 was built from the ground up on next gen. On that I call major BS. I see in the core gameplay, pretty much the same game as current Gen with some cleaner animations, and higher res textures. I do not see this brand nee game bs that people spout. The only thing new I see is the Park, and VC being inserted where it never was before. I also see removed modes such as online association. The reason being that they had to build the game from the ground up so there wasn't time to get it in. When in reality, they hadn't figured a way to tie VC into it yet. Because the game on the court looms awfully familiar to be built from the ground up.

I want Live to succeed, but don't underestimate what the other company is doing. They are gaining more knowledge on what they are able to do on these new powerful consoles. They might shock you and many others who don't approve of their game this October.
