Press/Trap? Anyone?
Thinking about taking it to another level. I want to be fast paced... Has anyone successfully trapped and or pressed with a high level of success? If so, how?NCAA Basketball- Duke
NCAA Football- The U
NFL- San Francisco 49ers
NBA- Phoenix Suns
MLB- Atlanta Braves

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
You can hold L1 to double but if you set your press to full/half court trap they will double whenever there is a chance, but it will leave somebody open so you'll have to swith defenders.
If you're trying to create turnovers, let the cpu guard the ball handler, help and play the lanes
If you're trying to speed up the pace, don't let cpu guard the ball handler, wait for the trap and let them take shots at your pace.
The main key/focus is patience...
If you're pressing/trapping the other team can potentially score a lot, but they'll also potentially turn the ball over and miss more
Patience comes in waiting for the apple turnovers and loose balls
If you press enough, there will be plenty of times the CPU/USER throws it out of bounds, looses it, fumbles it, takes a bad shot, misses, airballs, you get a team rebound(shot goes out of bounds), steals, etc...You get the picture, but in numbers out of every 10 traps you might get 3/4 bad possessions sporadically...that's when you go on your run...
You should also only press if you're good on offense or already up a few...
If not, you'll be down by 20 quickly and wanna quit...Last edited by 24ct; 04-03-2014, 07:55 AM.Comment

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
Against the CPU it works but if you're playing online your opponent can easily just break the double team and dunk every time.Spoiler

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
That's the point when playing a USER/online bro.
You let them score quickly but you have to be equally as good and patient on offense. Let them take quick shots and control the clock and manage your possessions.
They won't dunk everytime.
They can miss & you can/will block them, etc...
Like I said. The key is patience.
Yes you will give up points pressing and trapping
You will also create more possession and opportunities for misses and turnovers, etc
They key/trick is to take advantage of the USER errors.Comment

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
Pressing against an actual human opponent won't work unless they're bad at the game.
They'll just pass the ball up and get a dunk or layup.
Only time I trap is if someone's jacking up three's, I'll switch to a 3-2 zone and double with one of the bigs at half court. Usually only works if the big's athletic and can fall back quickly to the paint if he breaks it.
Most three point shooters aren't good ballhandlers or passers so if you can trap them at half court they'll throw a bad pass into traffic.I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
This is good stuff! I've been hit or miss, but getting better though. I can trap vs user better than I can vs cpu believe it or not. I want the game to be at a frenetic pace and keep them on their toes. College style. Personnel plays a big part also. Helps me play with lesser teams that have athletes who can run and jump.NCAA Basketball- Duke

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
If you're trying to get turnovers or just stops a 2-3 zone helps against the cpu. They'll get a few good shots bit of you play it right and get one stop that's a momentum shift and you have to score quickly, get back and man up the next possession. It's almost fool proof that after you switch back to man they'll get another turn over or miss and then you gotta score in transition again to keep that momentum. That third possession stay in man and if you can get another stop a 6-0 run you'll have enough momentum to come back or go up a bit. Rinse and repeat for stops.Comment

Re: Press/Trap? Anyone?
My main defense is the half-court trap, mixed and matched with man defense and half-minute sprinkles of whatever zone feels right at the moment. I always start man defense but if I'm having any trouble at all getting going on offense I tend to switch to the trap along with Create Chaos as one of my defensive emphases. I play with high energy teams like the Wizards, Pacers, Warriors, Nuggets so it tends to create as many opportunities for me as for my opponent, and the subtle unpredictability of WHEN exactly the double will start coming allows for some, well, pretty good chaos across the key in the 12-18 feet area.
Also, this is all relative to online. I've tried to play MyGM but between the online save storage, VC overload, lack of a second PS4 controller and my general feeling the CPU has gotten progressively cheaper since 2K10 I've only played a handful of offline games of PS4 2K14.Last edited by Nodima; 04-13-2014, 09:08 PM.Comment
