Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
Where's Blzer or ParisB when you need them?
I think playing in 1080p upscales the image and forces the resolution but I don't believe it's true 1080p.
But I really know nothing about this. Pretty sure it doesn't make any difference. PS3 games are 720p. -

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
I have no doubt it should be. The only reason the PS3 is at 720 is to maintain 60 FPS. The GPU/CPU in the PS4 is light years ahead. If it wasn't for HDMIs limitations I think they could target 120 FPS.PSN: KMRBlue1027

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
MLB the show14 for PS3 is best played in 720p. And as Heroesandvillains said 1080p upscaled the image. I play The Show on a 23 inch LG IPS LED monitor and 720p looks really good!Comment

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
I think the last MLB you could play in true 1080p(if you forced it through the ps3's display options) was either '09 or '10. I believe if you force 1080p the actual resolution is worse, like 540p, and from their your TV is simply upscaling 540p back to 1080p.
Unless you have one of those old HDTVs that can only do 1080i, you are better off letting the game run at 720p, with your tv doing the upscaling to 1080p.
It could be different this year, but I doubt it.Now, more than everComment

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
This game is optimized for 720p. There is no way to play it in "TRUE" 1080p.
No matter what you do, what cord you use, what TV you use or how you upscale it, you cant make a 720 game a 1080p game....... unless its a True 1080p game.
It might look cool, but its still just a pretty 720.Comment

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
We need side by side pics, I think that will settle this once and for all. What are the noticeable differences between the show being played at 720 and 1080?This game is optimized for 720p. There is no way to play it in "TRUE" 1080p.

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
This has been debated a lot on here and the conclusion was that forcing your PS3 to 1080p created a worse image.
I did this last year when this came up and on 1080 the game looks noticeably worse, at least on my TV. I took pics up close to my TV and the game definitely looked strange, perhaps due to how the PS3 was scaling it. The Show is the only game I've seen on PS3 that shows a message that it is optomized for 720p and apparantly they mean it.

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
For ****s and giggles I went ahead and checked... I was actually curious about this when the game first dropped, but I had forgot look into it.
I took two screen shots from Citizens Bank Park in Philly from the classic catcher hitters cam. The one up top is in 720p(The way God and SCEA intended...), and the one on the bottom is with 1080p forced.
The differences aren't exactly glaring, but the image captured while I was forcing 1080p is clearly inferior to the one in 720p. Two of the easiest tells are the infield grass and the ivy on the brick wall in center field. The grass and ivy are less sharp and detailed with 1080p forced. There are also many objects and text in the distance that are also slightly more blurry than they are in the 720p shot.
You can also notice some extra imperfections around the border of the infield grass as well, but I'm not sure if this has to do more with the lower resolution or the possible absence of the anti-aliasing effects you would see at 720p. Which is why Cliff Lee and some other objects in the background have slightly more jagged edges.
Speaking of AA, this would be another reason not to force 1080p. That particular effect, and probably some other low level processing effects that the ps3's hardware adds, is probably not there on 1080p.
To be fair to all of the people over the last few years who have claimed 1080p looks better on their display, the difference between the two resolutions doesn't exactly jump out at you. Especially, if you already have the placebo planted in your head from thinking that you're increasing the resolution.
Plus, some people probably have really nice TVs with great unpscalers in them. But... That doesn't change the fact that the source material it's upscaling is lower-res than it would be if you simply ran the game at default 720p.Attached FilesNow, more than everComment

Well I asked and I got it and it looks the same to me lol. I don't know what anti-alias is so my suggestion is for everyone who wants to know to try it themselves lol.Comment

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
Keep in mind looking at those shots in a smaller version on a computer monitor makes it a little harder to gauge.
It is much more noticeable in person on the big screen. If you're still skeptical take the screen shots for yourself and look at them on your TV. Also, if anyone is up for a lengthy search session, you can find where a dev confirmed this at some point during the last few years. Unfortunately, there are like 2 or 3 of these threads every year, so it may be a tough find. Now, more than everComment

Yes but if things are very noticeable I don't think the size matters lol but I get your point.Keep in mind looking at those shots in a smaller version on a computer monitor makes it a little harder to gauge.

Re: Anyone playing in 1080p?
Doesn't 4k run through HDMI? I know 2160 does. And I think the better the resolution, the better the framerate. I'm sorry, but to me, this is an invalid argument.Comment
