30 for 30 Detroit Bad Boys

Did anyone see this program tonight?

Outstanding work done by ESPN with covering this team.

That team was physical and nasty......one thing I never knew until watching this program was that Isiah and Adrian Dantley apparently had some beef with each other which led to the trade of Dantley and the pickup of Mark Aguirre from Dallas.

I was also caught by surprise when Aguirre flat out said the bottom line was he better than Dantley......

But the insight into the playoff matchups with Boston, LA, Portland and Chicago was absolutely amazing.

Laimbeer and Mahorn would kill some of the current NBA Bigs today simply by getting them off their games.

Laimbeer and Mahorn would have the reputation Demarcus Cousins would envy and would be kicked out of every game in today's league.

Really wanted to watch this but forgot and it was already half way through.. ESPN doesn't have it playing again for me to record it, so I'm hoping it lands on YouTube by tomorrow.

It was a great documentary and if you love old school basketball I highly recommend catching it later....

I vaguely remember most of those players because I was around 10 or 11 when they won their 2nd title and didn't understand basketball fully at that time but man when I go back and watch old games of this team in action and see the documentary those Pistons teams were intimidating both physically and mentally.

23 is right Mahorn and Laimbeer would get kicked out of games today but man those two back in day must have been brutal to play against they were thugging it up big time.

But they weren't just hammering little guys they would go after anyone who ventured into the paint.

Someone like LeBron or Blake would probably be in the hospital right now if they played vs Laimbeer or Mahorn in those days.

After watching that it's seems more like Dantley was upset that he wasn't getting his.

Special has me wanting to track down a copy of Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball. Used to rent that game all the time.

Bron & Griffin would be fine. They'd get knocked down and get right back up like the other guys who went in the paint back then...some of who were much smaller than them.

What a great show though....these 30 for 30's are always so good!

What a great doc, but man Bill Laimbeer is a piece of ****.

Lebron and Blake would be just fine. They'd push back and I wouldn't want to get hammered in the face by any of those two.

Really good documentary, especially for those few old heads like myself who were lucky enough to remember watching this team. Even those most people outside of Detroit hated them you had to respect them and if Zeke didn't sprain his ankle they would have won 3 in a row. Some of his heroics get overlooked because of how much people hated him but the performances they mentioned, 16pts in 94 secs, 45 in Game 6 on a bum wheel, and the time Karl Malone gave him something like 40 stitches and he returned to drop buckets only cement his legacy as the best 6 foot and under player to ever lace em up. The road they went through to win those titles was insane, especially the years before where they played Boston something like 24 times in 2 years.

                        Joe Dumars, all-time underrated team.

Two fun things slightly overlooked: That Isiah Thomas/Bill Cartwright fight occurred on April 7, 1989, just a couple of weeks before the start of the post-season. Thomas broke his hand on Cartwright's jaw. Isiah was suspended for two games... and that's all the time he missed. Played the rest of the regular season (and some of the playoffs) with a glove-ish thing on his broken hand and powered through until he recovered (and led the 'Stones to the ring).

Second, and maybe more amusing, Rick Mahorn may have been picked up by the Timberwolves in the expansion draft, but he never played a game for them. He was traded to the 76ers for picks before the '90 season even began. And when the Sixers came to the Palace in the third to last game of the season...

As much as I hated that team during time, I respected the hell outta that team. Yes, they played a style that I wasn't used to seeing back then but it got them two championships. Can't argue with that.

This is also why I would pick Isiah Lord Thomas III over any PG I've seen play not named Magic Johnson. You may have hated his personality like I do, but damn it, this dude was fearless.
I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X
