1966 NCAA 14 Roster
So as everyone is aware there arent going to be any new NCAA games for the next few years, I thought I would go with a throwback roster....way back to 1966. I will post updates in this thread as I get closer to completion. Right now I have about 2-3 weeks remaining of researching rosters and editing players info. Then another month or so of player/coach ratings. As you can imagine this has been super time consuming so I probably will not do much with equipment edits...sorry guys. But what this will have is the closest I can get to full rosters for all the teams including skin/height/weight/hometown edits. I'm including freshmen(even though they werent eligible in 66) so that these can be used in dynasty mode. I've thought about it long and hard and decided that I will not do replacement teambuilder teams for schools that didnt play then....instead I'm going to edit these teams in the roster. As an example I will edit South Florida's players to be Florida A&M's. The reason for this...I want to be able to use the editor to edit freshmen in my dynasty and teambuilder teams cant be edited. So for those of you that have been waiting on this hang in there for another month or two.Tags: None -
Re: 1966 NCAA 14 Roster
1966 Season Roster Version 1 has been uploaded to my locker for PS3
Locker: "OldschoolCarl"
What this contains:
The below teams are completed for ratings and personel info(height/weight/hometown/skin tone). Coaches have been set for run/pass, playbooks, and info and records. Also set aggression at 50 and subs at 85 for all coaches. After completing all the teams Im going to go back thru them one time making minor rating tweaks. Depth charts have been completed for the below teams as well, with freshmen set as backups since they werent eligible in 1966. I hopefully can knock out ratings for 2-5 teams a day as I already done a ton of research and note taking. Any feedback is welcome and if anyone sees any errors let me know.
As of 8/9/14 Ratings complete for:
ALL TEAMS!!!
As of 9/2/14
Equipment edits completed are as follows:
-removed all visors
-removed all flak jackets/back plates
-removed all bands from calf/forearm/bicep
-changed all helmets(except OL/DL/LB) to standard
-removed all knee braces
-added lots of padding to elbows/hands
Its not 100 percent perfect on the equipment but Im just tired of messing with it, hope everyone enjoys this last update for quite a while!!!
I will be testing the rosters in Dynasty over the next few days and making any minor adjustments that I find. Hope everyone enjoys these as much as I am going to. -

Coach Mode: Use Playmaker's Coach Mode Sliders
So I ran a season in dynasty to see how this roster played out, I noticed a few things to tweak but overall I am pretty excited about this. I set the teams up in conferences as close as I could to 1966, I lumped a bunch of eastern teams in the Big East, all the HBC schools in the Sun Belt, and had a lot of independent teams. Here is a recap:
San Diego St. beat Ole Miss for title (They were undedeated against a weak schedule, so I'm ok with it)
Rose Bowl- Michigan St def Arizona St.
Fiesta- Missouri def Penn St
Sugar- UCLA def Notre Dame
Orange- Houston def Clemson
Final Top 10:
1 San Diego St.
2 Michigan St.(only loss 26-20 to ND)
3 Missouri
4 Georgia Tech
5 Ole Miss
6 Houston
7 UCLA
8 Notre Dame(lost regular season to Fresno 38-35 OT...WTH?)
9 Syracuse
10 West Texas( another weak schedule)
Heisman Voting:
1 Floyd Little Syracuse
2 McArthur Lane Utah St.
3 Nick Eddy Notre Dame
4 Clint Jones Mich St.
5 Don McCall USC
Passing Stats

Re: 1966 NCAA 14 Roster
Hey Carl, I have been checking back from time to time to see if you have started your thread. I see it's up and running now. I know you are doing everything you can to bring this roster file to the PS3 community.I would like to say 'thank you' in advance for your hard work and devotion to the project that you have set- off to do. I must confess....I have been waiting patiently, but I know it will be worth it.Comment

Re: 1966 NCAA 14 Roster
You know , it might seem like that. But, I have played extensively with Carl's 1978 roster and I think it plays out very realistic. I have great confidence that Carl's 1966 effort will be just as good.Comment

Re: 1966 NCAA 14 Roster
As of right now, I have completed naming/info for about 90 teams and have partial rosters for smaller teams(Umass/MAC teams/) Im also working on quite a few historically black colleges that will replace teams lke Troy,FIU, USF, FAU, etc. Info on tese teams are scarce so they will not be complete. So far they are Grambling, Texas Southern, Southern, Fla A&M, Prairie View, Jackson State, Morgan State....thought it would be really fun to see how these schools would do against the teams that werent integrated...By the way these teams are loaded with NFL talent!!! I want to do a few previews of teams and the season and post them on here but I keep get caught up researching, might do it today if I have time. Probably just going to spend a few more days on rosters and then get into the ratings full time.Comment

Re: 1966 NCAA 14 Roster
Team summaries of the top 20(adjusted by power rankings....doesnt include traditional black colleges, though if they were allowed to play major college teams they would have been very competitive)
#1 MICHIGAN ST. Featured a devastating defense led by 6-7/265 Bubba Smith, 6-4/220 Rover George Webster, and Jess Phillips and an offense led by QB Jimmy Raye and future NFL players RB Clint Jones, WR Eugene Washington, and punishing FB Bob Apisa. Only blemish on the season was a tie with #2 Notre Dame.
#2 NOTRE DAME Featured an all NFL backfield of QB Terry Hanratty, RB Nick Eddy, RB Rocky Bleier, and FB Larry Conjar and a defense led by DT Alan Page, LB Jim Lynch, DT Pete Duranko and over 20 future NFL players on roster.
#3 ALABAMA Undefeated and untied but lost out probably due to playing only teams from the south. Very small and undersized but quick and led by QB Kenny Stabler, 6-3/225 RB Les Kelly, WR Ray Perkins and a relentless no-name defense.
#4 GEORGIA Lost one game 7-6 to Miami but didnt play Alabama. Led by DT George Patton, T Edgar Chandler(future NFL LB), DE Bill Stanfill, and QB Kirby Moore.
#5 WYOMING Yes, Wyoming!! Lost one game 12-10 to Colorado St. Had at least 10 future NFL Players including RB Jim Kiick, RB Dave Hampton, CB/RB/KR Vic Washington, and a huge DL led by 6-8/275 Ron Billingsley and future pro kicker Jerry DePoyster.
#6 MISSISSIPPI Losses to Alabama, Georgia , and Texas. Tough veteran team led by RB Doug Cunningham, WR Mac Haik, DT Dan Sartin, DT Jim Unbanek.
#7 GEORGIA TECH Only lost to Georgia and Florida. Led by power running of RB Leonard Snow, WB Craig Baynham and LB Randy Edmunds.
#8 PURDUE Only 2 losses to Notre Dame and Mich State. Offense led by QB Bob Griese, FB Perry Williams, WR Jim Beirne and defense led by RB/S/CB Leroy Keyes, S John Charles, MLB Chuck Kyle, and DT Lance Olssen.
#9 FLORIDA Powerful offense led by QB Steve Spurrier, huge RB Larry Smith, versatile QB/RB Harmon Wages, TE Jim Yarborough(future NFL tackle), WR Richard Trapp, and G Guy Dennis.
#10 UCLA QB Gary Beban, RB Mel Farr led to team to wins in all games except upset loss to Washington.Comment

Re: 1966 NCAA 14 Roster
Now this is some good stuff to get you going. Also, good timing with this roster file considering this is the only college game in town. NCAA football 14 is going to feel and look like NCAA football of yester year. With the '78 file and soon to be '66 file I can enjoy this game like it's new all over again. Good job Carl.Comment
