AI in quick counts.
I played a game last night with quick counts and I thought it was a very nice feature. However, I have a question regarding the pitches that are simulated.
Part of the pitcher/batter battle (as any baseball fan knows) is setting up the hitter. Keeping the ball low and away, and then busting the hitter in on his hands is just one of many different strategies pitchers use. However, with quick counts we don't know a.) what pitches were thrown or b.) where they were located. This leaves me with a question about the general AI in the game. I've always felt like CPU batters could be set up. Pounding the zone low and getting the hitter into a pitchers count and then throwing a fastball up in the zone and getting them to chase has always been a good strategy for me. However, with quick counts it makes me think, does this even matter? Does setting a batter up make any difference? Since we don't know what happened to get to a 1-2 count (when using quick counts) it seems like that could actually be a disadvantage for the user pitcher. |
