2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
Decided to throw this in the PS4 section. I am going to be creating the 2003 season with real minors. I just got started and it's obviously going to be a long process. But if anyone wants to throw any input it that would be great. I'm going to be doing the entire team before moving on to the next. So once I get two or three teams done I should have a better guess at when the roster will be finished. But it'll likely be at the end of summer.

Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
That sounds awesome!
What are you using to calculate ratings? I did some formulas to compute starting pitchers. They're a bit different than the ones I've been seeing on Operation Sports (heavily rate-based). I'm a longtime lurker but never post, so I suppose that's part of why I can't create a new thread myself. Anyway, I'm not trying to derail your thread, but if you're interested let me know.Comment

I went ahead and plugged in the data for 2003 into my formulas. As with anything, you get outliers [especially if they didn't pitch many innings], but options are good so I figured I'd let you take a look.

Alright man. I'm using a different calculator this year that produces better ratings like Contact vs L/R but I'll let you look at it to see what you think. I'm getting close to the first team being done. Feel free to touch up any of the faces as well. If you see a potential that you think is wrong just let me know because I want it to be a fair potential.
I'm using Jimbo's calculator. I felt that some of the numbers were coming out low for his. But I will definitely give yours a look. Could you do ratings for at least the Cub relievers that year and possibly the position players? Thanks!I went ahead and plugged in the data for 2003 into my formulas. Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
Also if anyone finds a player with service time that is editable let me know. I currently have Less than a 1, 1, 2, 3, 7, 11 years for pitchers. I would like to get a 4 and 5 year for pitchers but I haven't found any. For position players I have less than a year, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9. Really would like to just find a 5 year editable position player if there is one. If anybody finds any of the players with service time that I haven't listed let me know.Comment

Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
Okay, I went through the Cubs pitching. If you see a name shaded in yellow that means their sample size was less than 27 innings, so the results might be more skewed. If it's shaded in red then their sample size was less than 9 innings and the results are almost guaranteed to be crazy.
2003 Cubs Pitching Ratings
I think my clutch ratings for major leaguers are a little better than AAA or AA - for the sake of trying to compute so many sacrifices were made based on which stats I could easily obtain.
I've also left any ratings that creep outside mix/max values in the game (i.e. over 99) alone. My formulas are still very young, and originally based off Steamer(U) for the 2014 season, so tweaks in the future are possible if not probable. I know you asked for batters as well, and batting and fielding are something I'm going to explore, but I wanted a good base for pitching first so that's all I have thus far.
(Of course pitch edits also have a big impact on everything too, but we can only go one step at a time unfortunately. I know RTTS and Franchise saves will carry over in future iterations of The Show; but I keep seeing mentions on OS that roster files will also transfer to next year's game? If so, that definitely makes all these undertakings feel more worthwhile!)
Let me know what you think.Comment

Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
I inputed your ratings for the Cubs starting pitchers last night and I liked what I saw. Looking over the list you made everything looks to be well done! I'll plug some numbers in when I get off work and see what I get. But thanks for this! Also that's okay if you don't have anything set up for position players. Any little thing can help the roster making process. But very well done with these!!Okay, I went through the Cubs pitching. Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
Sweet, I'm really glad they work for you. I just tweaked the previous link to remove some duplicate names like Cruz and Wellemeyer (and the Cubs starters are slightly different on that team file compared to the full MLB list as well).
No formula is perfect, and it's near impossible to not use some subjectivity with ratings, so once again I think having options is good a thing. If you want other teams, or even the equations on how I calculated these just let me know. I'll keep you posted if and when I get around to batting, fielding et al.Comment

Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
Evan Meek BAL, Orioles is also editable P
For position players I forgot to mention Casey McGehee and Bobby Abreu are also editable. I've always wanted to work on one of these projects; let me know if you need help with ratings, or stats, I'm not good with faces but am good at research. Also a big Cards fan, so Cards/Cubs is huge for me. I saw a Moises Alou CAP in the vault that was decent by Mars?Last edited by kurtzmann25; 05-16-2014, 03:43 PM.Comment

I will check those guys out to see what service time they have. Thanks! I know you posted about Biemel who I think I have for the 11 year pitchers.Evan Meek BAL, Orioles is also editable P

Edit: I can use Sizemore and Abreu. Now if they have a 4 and 5 year pitcher and 5 year position player I'd be set.
I was definitely planning on "stealing" some of your caps
That is if you don't mind. I know last year you said you didn't care.

Re: 2003 Historic Roster w/Full Minors
I tried to PM you but couldn't. Yeah if you would want to hook me up with the pdf's for all the teams that would be great and even the minor leagues if you wanted. I know you did the starting pitchers which will be helpful. Obviously this isn't a fast process so there would be no hurry. You can keep me posted as well if you decide to do position players and what not. It would definitely be a huge help to me.Comment
