Maybe it's just me, but I don't see enough playbook talk on here. Now that we are all months into this game we love, or love to hate, lets get some playbooks talk going again!

I am currently running Toledo's offense in one league and the spread option playbook in another league. I am probably not settled on one PB yet though(I've got a recurring case of playbookitis). I have done a custom PB a couple times, but haven't stuck with it due to the Ask Coach issues.

Defensively, I run a custom multiple playbook. I like to call my own plays on D so I don't mind the Ask Coach issue. Love being able to change personnel and formations to keep the offense off balance.

Well this idea died... not sure why, but I'll chime in. I run the Air Raid on offense, but I made a Custom Playbook and am using the idea that was the root of the Air Raid: Fewer plays and lots of repetition!

So my offensive playbook, based on Washington State's Air Raid, only has a total of 63 plays in it. My defensive playbook, based on the Multiple D, but what I call the 46 Bear, has even fewer plays and formations...

I have the 3-3-5 Bear, the 46, the 1-5-5 and regular Nickel, Dime and Goal Line. And went in and deleted a ton of plays. Getting through my playbook(s) is now so easy and yet I have the plays that are staples of both schemes in there and am just enjoying the fact that we have this option!

I went the opposite direction of Dr. Death with my CPBs. Mine are just about as full as they can be as I LOVE variety. My PB is a spread option pb with 28 formations (all SG) + 1 GL formation.

With the spread option overhaul they had this year the variety of plays is AMAZING! My pb has 86 options in it. In previous years these would've been spread among maybe 4 or 5 different types. In '14 however, there are a whopping 32!!! different types of options in my PB (and there are still more different types that I couldn't fit into my PB, IE off the top of my head there's the counter read option):

With all of that, the different ways that I can attack a defense is pretty astounding.

On D I made a 3-4 CPB with every 3-4 formation and just about every play that doesn't rush more than 6 guys, both quarters, dollar, and 5 nickles (and I LOVE the 3-3-5 SAM nickle which gives me the nickle normal look, but, allows me to keep my 3-3-5 personnel since I usually only have 2-3 active DTs on my roster.

I use a custom PB based on the University of Houston Air Raid. Want it to resemble the SMU Run N' Raid this past season

I run a custom spread-option playbook with the constraint-theory of offense in mind.
I start with a formation with a read-option play and will make sure to add the play-action pass that will link to it. I then add an inside HB run (normally inside zone) a quick WR or Bubble screen and 4-verticals. I add other drop-back-pass plays (normally spot and some version of shallow cross) to the formation, making sure they won't replace the screen or 4-verticals as my "quick audibles".
I will typically call the read-option play that I want to run, then can use my quick audibles to respond to anything the defense is doing.

I have more nickle/dollar formations than 3-4, but I try to stay in my base 3-4 as much as possible. Unless I'm facing a "throw 80% of the time team" or a team with a real burner in the slot I'll stick with 3-4 even against 3 wide and won't go to nickle unless there's 4 wide and I'll go dollar against 5 wide. I tend to recruit good LBs and am confident in their ability to cover TEs and ~90 SPD slot WRs.

I really like the 3-3-5 SAM Nickle too. I use the package sub to put a safety in at the slot DB spot so it has the same personnel as the other 3-3-5 formations.

I end up playing against spread teams so often that I use the 3-3-5 SAM Nickle and 3-3-5 Okie as my base formations.

For when I am playing a more power-run type team, I go to 3-4 or the 5-2 with the OLB package-sub.

Offense: Custom pro style/west coast offense with some option and power I formations

Defense: 3-4 with some 46 bear and 4-2-5 sub also I like 5-2 (OLB sub in at DE)
Basically I'm running a hybrid defense mixing in 4-3 stack with my 3-4 OLB's playing rush DE and some nickel and Dime formations.

Madden should have at least followed this blue print to all us to use formation subs without having to do it manually every single game.
