How Do Career Mode Budgets Work When Promoted?

I am currently playing as Wycombe. The team has been promoted the last two years and we are now in the English Championship.

A problem I have noticed is that my budget never seems to reflect that. Each season, the same €500,000 I started with gets placed into my transfer budget despite playing in a league where teams have several million euros to spend. I don't mind being a low budget club, but €500K seems ridiculous when compared with the resources some other teams have.

My question is this: does your budget actually go up when you are promoted to a better league or finish higher than your objective? Or is it the same cash influx every season?

I think I read someone said that the trick is to make the funds 100% wages before the end of the season and if so the funds will transfer over to the next season. Not sure though.

Yeah. Sorry, I meant to include that. Even when doing changing the budget (I have done so before advancing each season) I'm still not getting much money to start the season.

You really have to options in these situations: you're either really committed to the team or you start applying for some jobs with better funds. If you're committed to the team you have to strategize from the beginning to build the team through the youth squad and cheap signings. You have to both bring in talent (within your budget) to help your team as well as to develop and sell for more money later. Example would be me buying a striker from Boca Juniors for $200K, scoring about 20 goals with him the following season, then selling him a year later for $1.2K. In that year I was able to develop a youngster in my youth squad that's replaced him with a higher overall rating.

It takes patience and careful planning but it can be done.

Re: How Do Career Mode Budgets Work When Promoted?

In my experience the higher budgets don't come into play until the second season in the same league. I don't remember the exact amounts but months ago I did a York City playthrough. I didn't want to get back-to-back promotions since it's unrealistic. I was in FL2 for 2 years, FL1 for 1 year and the FLC for 3 years.

          Estiamted budget by year.

          1 - 400k
          2 - 600k
          3 - 600k
4 - 1M (I sold some players so my budget went up even tho it was my first FLC season.
          5 - 3M
          6 - 6M
          7 - 7.5M (first year in BPL, finished 12th)
          8 - 12M (finished 5th)
          9 - 18.5M (finished 3rd)
          10 - 31M (finished 1st)
          11 - 42M (finished 2nd and won CL)
          12 - 45M (got PS4 and quit this CM)

Much of this depends on league finish, cup runs and selling players for more than their worth. It seems like if you sell a player for alot of money the board will increase your budget the following year even if you spent the money you made of the player.
Best advice I can give is try to buy low and sell high on players. Best way to generate income and when doing FL2 to BPL CMs the best way to use cash from player sales is to pour that money into youth. You can sell average youth players for 500k or more and really help you along. Also of course the more money you use on youth the better players you'll get for your team.

          Hope I'm making sense

Re: How Do Career Mode Budgets Work When Promoted?

Thanks to both of you for the help.

@vrabbit: I'm trying something along these lines, but I haven't really been selling. I've tried to focus on free transfers for players between ages of 23-28 and whose wages are below €2,000. That's gotten me through the bottom two rungs of English football. I've been looking to sell a few guys who I don't need anymore, but have been hesitant to sell key contributors if they don't ask to leave. I may have to re-visit that. But I'm definitely invested in the club and want to hang around as long as there is promise of better funding in the future, which brings me to...

@doyce7: This is very interesting. Some more evidence that maybe I should start to sell some players. It also looks like I should hang around the FLC a little longer. I'm only my first year (year three, overall) but I've just been pummeling teams the first 10 games or so. Going to bet it's the pre-contract players growing when the game advances seasons. There are a lot of guys performing at higher levels than I pay. Might need to bump up the difficulty, too.

I have a small youth academy going, but I haven't really been able to send scouts out anymore because a lot of my budget has gone to solidifying the squad and hiring better scouts. That said, I have 5 middle of the road prospects and another 2 that I'm really stoked about. So I'll see how they develop and make a decision then.

            Thanks again!

                I don't understand your question.
