    Community Q & A with Dynasty Football creator Eric Kneipfer

    Operation Sports, here is your chance. Ask Eric Kneipfer (neef on OS) your questions about Dynasty Football and he will answer them in this thread as he has time. This is a chance for real time interaction with the creator of a game that I personally feel, has a chance to become a huge success.

    Here's the deal;

    Ask your question or questions in your post. Try to limit each post to two or three questions maximum so that Eric has a chance to answer them. If you load down a post with 15 questions, he's gonna have a hard time responding. He's doing this in his own free time, so please be patient waiting for a response. This game is being created for us, the community of football gamers.

    Is it possible to make an option play (read option, triple option, etc.) in the playbook editor?

        Yes to the read option and maybe to the triple option. Read option plays are the last movement type scheduled to be implemented and are huge in the NFL right now. That one is easy. Triple option is more complex and might be more difficult to get working.

          I hadn't considered this. Would you want this option to play out a season or two before choosing teams?

            Can you talk describe defensive play design? Can we set detailed things like if we elect man coverage, can the defenders be set for inside or outside coverage? How do players in zone defense react if multiple receivers enter their zone?

                I'll start with your zone question first: If two receivers enter a defender's zone the defender is taught to cover the deeper receiver, but he may not if he fails to make his read correctly (using attributes like Intelligence, Vision, and Decisions). If he fails his test he will cover the wrong guy, just like real football.

                To add to that, in DF there are 2 types of zones you can choose: soft and aggressive. Soft will keep the receiver in front of the defender - he won't move forward to cover , while aggressive means the defender will move as fast as he can to stay toe for toe with the receiver.

                Man coverage has loads of options, including shading to the inside, outside, front, or back of the receiver. There is straight up man-to man and also formation match man to man where a receiver is covered based on where he lines up rather than who he actually is. Just like real football you give a defender a list of targets to cover. He goes through his list and finds the spot he needs to be in.

                Take a look at DFs Man to Man dialogue box (this is for any individual defender); you can see how easy it is to create schemes and matchups:

                  The cpu can create training schedules, play practice schedules, college scouting itineraries, and set your depth chart. You can micromanage these decisions to your heart's content or click a button and let your coach's do it with their various attributes being the factor. Playbooks can be loaded all laid out with premade plays in different categories based on down and distance. You can even let the CPU call the plays and you just watch if you wish.

                  Remember, these features are present in the game NOW, this is not a promise to get it done down the road.

                    How does the D react once the ball is snapped? Does the D have keys to determine if the play is a run or pass?

                      As a football official, I often think this aspect of the game is neglected in simulations. I don't wNt to throw a flag, but we are out there for a reason. How does this game game handle calling fouls?

                          Hello, good luck with the game's release, we always need good football games to play.

                          I am going to put all my questions in a single post to start out with, hope that is Ok. Its a long list, but I am very curious about this game and its initial/future plans on how it will model American football since I would love to support it.

                          - Are the locations of the football teams pre-determined such as the current NFL cities? Is there the ability to relocate?

                          - Are the cities and locations of the teams modeled correctly? Meaning, are the weather conditions modeled based on real city data? Is attendance modeled based on city? Travel to games considered (meaning traveling for east or west may have an impact on the game).

                          - Will pre season be included? If so, will you be able to set it up so the players only play like a preseason game (some players only play a couple of drives, a quarter, etc.) depending on which preseason game it is?

                          - Will you be able to setup playing times/percentages for your players? For example, I may have a 2-back system where I want 2 RBs to equally share the load.

                          - Can the game model different eras or only based on modern football? Meaning, in early years run was more favorable, now it has turned into a passing league.

                          - Can the leagues expand and contract teams during a career play?

                          - Can you create and modify your own schedule?

                          - I think I saw a practice squad shown in one of the videos...how is this modeled?

                          - In the vides I didn't see any mention of reports...will reports be included for things like statistical leaders, milestones, league leaders, etc.

                          - Will any kind of record book (longest run, most TDs, etc.) be included for
                          the season and career?

                          - Will there be a hall of fame included? Will it be configurable criteria?

                          - Will season awards be included (bets coach, MVP, offense/defense awards)?

                          - Will the pro bowl and all pro teams be included? Will there be a pro bowl game you can watch/play?

                          - Is weather included, meaning rain, snow, wind, etc?

                          - When a new career starts, will the ratings of the player pool be random so each time you play it is a unique experience?

                          - Will you be able to import real NFL team rosters?

                          - Will there be configuration options for changing the city name, nickname, logo, field, etc.?

                          - I saw in the videos where it appeared news stories are included...can you provide any more detail on that?

                          - Will you be able to export all your reports and data to HTML/web site?

                          - I might have missed it in the videos, but if you don't want to actually play a weekly game but just sim, is there a place to setup your gameplan? How complicated will it be to do? Any screen shots of it?

                            A ball finding algorithm is used. The better the players' reading skills the lower the time it takes to figure out what's happening. Deception plays like draws and play actions can fool lesser players.

                              Most of the fouls are determined by a player's Discipline score, but for pass interference calls the Body Control attribute is also a factor.

                              If a penalty happens you can see the result on the field, so a holding call will stop a defender's movement and a pass interference call will hitch up the receiver for a moment or two.
