Essentially, i was playing online and my opponent had the ball in his own half, next to the inbound line as he'd just collected it off a defensive rebound. By accident, he must of flicked the right stick or pressed square and he launched the ball hail mary style across the entire court, an air ball naturally. But i pressed square to steal the ball as he was doing this, and the ref called a foul - 3 free throws shots. Now i don't watch a lot of basketball as i live in England, but in real life, if someone hail mary's like that, how does the ref know it was intended to be a shot? This cost me the game as he sank the free throws. Is this the game engine working as designed (because a shot was initiated and a foul was called) or is this an error by the developers (lack of discretion)?

Yes i was reaching, but i wasn't in the bonus, so it should have been the opponents inbound. What I'm disputing is the ref knowing the players intentions when he's bombing it down court like that.SIDE BEFORE SELF EVERY TIMEComment

The ref knows its intended to be a shot because it IS a shot. They'd only bomb it down court (in the game) for a full court shot or such. That's your own fault for reaching too much. The game thought you were trying to foul and he was in the shooting motion when you fouled. That will equal a shooting foul, so he gets his 3 freethrows since he was behind the three point line.

Im aware of the outcomes in the game world, but i asked if the developers have made an error here because in real life, the ref would not be able to distinguish such a motion as it is nothing like a jumpshot and its from the other end of the court, it could of been a fast-break pass...SIDE BEFORE SELF EVERY TIMEComment

A hail mary is the name of that sort of shot. Why are you trying to steal it at half court when he's shooting from there? Mistake was on your side, not the refs.

I had Kawhi Leonard make a full court shot while the CPU reached and fouled. Unfortunately it wasn't recorded, but it was insane.Comment
