Week 1: San Francisco 49ers (0-0) vs Dallas Cowboys (0-0)

    Finally, football season is here!

I've been looking forward to this game since the last time the Cowboys played the 49ers in 2011.

I have the 49ers in this one, but I am curious to see how the defense fares without Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman.

As a cowboys fan, I think SF takes this one. Though SF gets more depleted on defense by the day, so that helps. We'll find out a few things on sunday:
    - Is Romo 100% ?
    - Will we be more balance offensively?
    - Do we have the worst defense of all time?

Always fun when we play San Fran, fun fan base to banter with, Goodluck 9ers.

I'm curious to see if our offense just slept-walk through the preseason, or if there are truly some serious issues there.

As a Cowboys fan, I looked at the schedule and was optimistic.

After being optimistic, I came up with a 4-12 record....even the games I counted as wins are games that they could probably lose. Heck, they play the Jags on the road who I think will be improved and the Titans on the road won't be a give me.

I would just assume go 2-14 so they blow the team up than go 8-8 again.

I have serious doubts about the Niners defense without Aldon, Bowman and a group of guys at CB I have no confidence in. I think the offense will rebound a bit from preseason but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Romo lit up the Niners secondary and pulled off the upset.

I don't know if I would call it an upset at this point. With the lack of offense this preseason and the injuries/suspensions on defense the 49ers might not be the favorites.

The fan in me wants to believe the offense didn't go all out in the preseason and will light it up once the real games start and the defense will just fill in and be good like the past few years. But the realist in me knows neither of these are likely to happen.

I'm going the other way on this; the offense is the exact same top ten unit as last year and the defense can't possibly be any worse and by virtue of that must improve, even if by the smallest iota. I'm not saying Dallas will make the playoffs or even win this game, but I don't see any indication for a train wreck season. In fact, given how weak the NFC East is, I don't see any reason the Cowboys can't win the division.

To that end, I fully expect 8-8 and no playoffs. :P

As to this specific game, it's gonna be an uphill battle, and I don't expect to win.

That's pretty generous. I'm an optimistic 7-9 because even though we had the last ranked defense in the NFL last year, we're much, much worse this year. Our D will finish the season ranked 35th.

For this game, I predict SF wins 34-27. Kap throws for 200 and runs for 100 against our swiss cheese D.

Re: Week 1 San Francisco 49ers (0-0) vs Dallas Cowboys (0-0)

I mean, based off the preseason all SF really has to do is run the ball every play. The Cowboys couldn't stop anyone in the running game and now you throw in a mobile QB like Kap, it may get ugly. With that said, I'm kinda using the same illogical logic of others: the defense can't get worse simply out of pride.

I'm really interested to see what this Cowboys offense can do against a great defense in SF (even with some stars missing). I think this is Dez's year and he really sets himself apart as the premier WR in the league. And more than anything, I'm hoping the OL gels and begins to set the right tempo for the season thus restoring glory of the great Cowboys OLs of the past. I mean, as a former OL nothing more exciting than seeing two mountainous men like Tyron Smith & Justin Smith go at it.

I feel, as all Cowboys games, this one could go either way. The Cowboys win this one somehow only to drop an easy win later in the season.

Can't wait for the season to start for better or worse.

Dallas beats a reeling San Fran defense into submission for the upset.

                    Let's get it.

I wouldn't bet on it happening, but I wouldn't be shocked if Dallas pulled this one out. In my pick'em I gave a low confidence points to San Fran. It's easy to call out Dallas' defense, but the Eagle's is just as bad and their slightly better offense has them top 10 in power rankings.

I want them to lose, but the Niners should pull this one out. They HAVE to at least slow down Dez. I don't see SF beating Dallas in a shoot out.

We will be miserable this year...but with the 9ers defense dealing with their issues, I could see the offense winning this one.

As said above, I think we just have to hope every game turns into a shoot out. Say what you want about Romo... Most last-drive wins in the NFL since 2011, not many people can out-duel the man. I also don't think we've seen the best Dez has to offer, I expect to see him become and absolute monster this year. Not to mention Murray is a very solid back when healthy. Best bet for us is a shoot out.

I'm a die hard Cowboys fan and also like to believe that I am a realist. Before i go any further, I so not think we will make the playoffs. In my honest opinion I don't even see 6 wins out of this team. It kind of hurts me to say that about my team, but I call it like I see it.

With all that said, I have Dallas edging out the win in a shootout. The reason I think this is simple, games in Arlington. 49ers defense has problems right now and out of their top talents. Our defense is bad as well, which is why I see a shootout in Big D. I think our offense is stronger than theirs and I don't believe they can shutdown Dez with the shape of their defense right now. I got Dallas winning it in a close, high scoring shoot out
