We will take you to San Diego's Press Conference now to get a word with the new owner.
Alex Spanos says his farewell speech and welcomes Chargers new owner, PJ Shulters, to the podium.
"Question 1:
How does it feel to take over for a team that is still very much in the mix of things?
Shulters:
It's an honor actually. I, as well as others in the organization, was shocked when Alex [Spanos] announced this morning that he would have to step down as the team's owner and I am disheartened to hear about his medical concerns. We all wish him a nice recovery and I thank him for the opportunity he has given me.
Question 2:
Are there any changes you are planning to make to this team as of right now?
Shulters:
Uhh, there's really not that many to make, I feel, well, we feel, that we are in a good position to compete in the AFC and in the NFL right now. Philip [Rivers] is a proven elite quarterback and we have some young studs on this team and I feel we have a solid defense. There is always room for improvement, but we will make those decisions when the time comes.
Question 3:
There have been rumors all offseason about this team changing up the offensive and defensive schemes, can you tell us anything about that?
Shulters:
Well, we definitely look into every opportunity to improve this team and yes, we are throwing some new looks in. I know Mike [McCoy] really wanted to take advantage of some talented players on our offense and on defense he is looking to ways of making our defense more versatile. I think you will see a lot more opportunities being created for our key players on offense, that's for sure.
Question 4:
As it stands right now, what are you looking to correct this season?
Shulters:
This season we are looking to get better on defense and we think we know how to do that right now. We are looking to shut down the run games that opposing teams bring and the biggest key this offseason, which has been nailed into the defensive players' heads', is that tackling is utterly important. We need guys that can tackle and don't shy away from wrapping guys up.
On offense, like I said, it is just giving some of the guys more opportunities to make plays.
Question 5:
What do you expect out of the team this season?
Shulters:
I expect big things, as any owner should. I think we have a good chance to compete and we will compete. I'm almost certain that we can get back into the playoffs this year and potentially make some noise. "
That closes out the bulk of the Press Conference. Shulters is already making some moves though, as the team announced the signing of Pro-Bowl Cornerback Brandon Flowers, who was recently released by division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs.
