Re: Penalties
I WILL BE SURPRISED IF THERE ARE PENALTIES AFTER MAXING OUT THE PENALTY SLIDER! LOL..... Remember NHL 12... EA abandon the penalties....frack you'll be lucky if you have 1 or 2 penalties in 1 game. NHL 13, same thing until they tuned it...but still you have only 2-3 pen per game. Only once I have like 6, which IMO is just normal in a hockey game.
So you bought the game????
Anyways...I posted this in another thread:
this one is a bit lengthy (35 minutes) ....but he has some good points..... games should be made by gamers for gamers ... wow
His arguments against EA is strong.
He also cited the problems of EA:

Re: Penalties
So, I've played several games in the DEMO and same issue...no penalties. Weird coincidence, but I turned the "post whistle" option to "Authentic". Now, I have had 4 penalties in my game, and this is on Hardcore / Pro.
Now, it could just be a lucky coincidence. But has anyone else tried this? Again, only one game, but the penalties appeared soon as I adjusted the post whistle option...and I should mention the penalties are DURING gameplay, not post whistle.Last edited by Steven547; 09-06-2014, 02:52 PM.Comment

Re: Penalties
Although that is better than nothing, still below nhl average. The team with highest average last year was 3.59 while the team with the lowest had 2.80 power plays per game. So should be seeing more in the range of 6-7 power plays per game on average. So, I've played several games in the DEMO and same issue...no penalties. Re: Penalties
Doesn't the PP clock go at actual time? While the game clock goes at the standard speed (however fast it needs to go in order to run 20 minutes in however long your periods are set to).
If that's the case, then 3 or 4 penalties would probably be about right, as far as the amount of time being on the PP relative to the length of the game.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

There is a slider that you use to determine how the PP time scales compared to normal time.Doesn't the PP clock go at actual time? While the game clock goes at the standard speed (however fast it needs to go in order to run 20 minutes in however long your periods are set to).

Re: Penalties
I don't have, nor have I played the full version of the game yet. And without going into a long description and explanation of my thoughts on this, which I have discussed before, here's what I'll say.
And while what I'm about to say may be obvious and many of you might have already considered this, I think it's easy to forget.
If you're playing five minute periods and you're getting 1-2 penalties per game that would be the equivalent of getting about 7-8 penalties in a 20 minute period game. So in theory, the longer the periods, the more penalties and power plays you'll see.
I've always wanted an NHL game that would allow me to play full, 20-minute period and still get realistic stats. Unfortunately, we're not quite there yet.
The key is more loose pucks and by more I mean a lot more. The other thing that would allow us to play full games is much, much better board play. About 5-10% of the game should be played along the boards, but as we know, it's not.
So back to the point, the longer periods that you play, the more penalties you're likely to see. At least that's how it's been in NHL games in the past and I don't expect NHL 15 to be any different. My suggestion, and this is what I always do, is to tune the sliders as much as possible to make the game create as many loose pucks as possible, and in the process, allowing us to play longer periods but maintain realistic stats.
If we're able to do this, then we should have more power plays.
It's definitely a double-edged sword for EA. Because most players don't want to play a full, 20-minutes each period like I do. So how do you accommodate casual fans while still appealing to simulation-style players like myself, that's the question.
Kind of got off topic, but you get my point.Comment

Re: Penalties
But the thing though is that penalty sliders are in here for a reason. The slider on the middle setting should produce a realistic amount of penalties using 20 min periods, the slider on max should produce a realistic amount of penalties using 10 min or less periods. That's how it's been for like every single NHL video game since before NHL12.I don't have, nor have I played the full version of the game yet. And without going into a long description and explanation of my thoughts on this, which I have discussed before, here's what I'll say.

All other sports games allow you to completely change these things. NHL has penalty time scale setting too. So even if you play 10 min periods, you can adjust the scale so the penalty lasts 1 min in real time, meaning you should still get a realistic number of penalties per game.Comment

Re: Penalties
Based on how the game currently plays you would certainly get more penalties the longer the minutes you played. However, couple things that make that an impossible option for me.
1) Rarely have enough gaming time to play full 20 minute periods...takes too long.
2) Stats are barely realistic on 10 minutes so can't see anyway to have realistic outcomes using 20 minute periods...would be tough.
3) The penalty sliders should be based on the minutes your playing, regardless of what minutes you set. If the slider is in the middle, it should generate 6-7 total penalties on average per game even if you use 10 minutes. If that is too much for you, then moving the slider down should reduce that and likewise if that is too little for you, then moving the slider up should increase them. Sliders are supposed to be used to allow you to play the game how you want to play it but since they are not working as they should, they are basically useless.
The only thing I really cared about in this version was EA finally getting this right but from what I have seen so far, it is no different then the recent past versions. I don't care about the game missing all those other features since I never used them, but I can't play a hockey game that doesn't include the importance of special teams play when it is such a big factor in the sport.
Come on EA, please release a patch/tuner that makes the sliders work...that is all I ask. Let us decide for ourselves what is too many and too few penalties by us adjusting our own sliders.Comment
