Corner routes
Played online and everytime i stopped the guy he would go to his 'go-to' play with was 4 wr set and the two inside wr's would run corner routes. any idea how to stop this play? obviously some sort of zoneTags: None -
Re: Corner routes
What seems to work for me is to Spotlight his go to guy then I adjust for protect sticks and defense adjust Over the top. with this I tend more often then not to drop a big hit before he gets a first down and sometimes my CPU teammate jumps the route.
I play as a D-lineman so if you control the LB may be a different approach!BOOMER..Sooner! -
Re: Corner routes
Cover 4 should work against the deep corner route without exposing your deep middle. I'd only use it in long yardage situations (like 3rd & 20) because you're exposed in the short/intermediate area.My Miami Dolphins HC 09 dynasty:

Re: Corner routes
Maybe formation sub your top corners to play inside when you think it is coming.
Try cover 2 man and shade outside. This depends on personnel though. Probably only works if you have good corners.
What routes are the outside WRs running? If it is hitch routes then he is running smash. That is designed to beat 2 deep coverages.
You could try cover 4. Hot route the flats to curl zones. Same with cover 3. But then the underneath hitch will be open. But if it is 3rd and long that is acceptable.Comment

Re: Corner routes
Bench is the play. Call cover 3/4 and this is the key -- base align. What he is doing is pulling your defense in and then attacking outside. With man align your defenders are not in a position to defend outside breaking routes.
Definitely don't want to go man on this play.Comment

Re: Corner routes
They are overpowered. I posted this in one of the online threads.
The user I was playing was running out of ace and kept throwing the corner route to the tight end. As soon as he would come out of the break he would throw it and even if my man was in zone or man it didn't matter.
I tried man, cover 2, 3, and 4. Nine times out of ten it will be a completion.
I tried all of the shade assignments. I even hot routed my rush end in man and zone. The only thing that worked for me was covering it myself. Another person posted on youtube about this.

Re: Corner routes
Jimmy Graham in real life is overpowered. You notice that each time he hit the corner route the defense was in cover 1? Watch the play at 2:00.graham ran the corner but the zone took it away. They are overpowered. I posted this in one of the online threads.

The corner route is a difficult route to cover in real life. If you try to defend the corner route 1v1 against a guy like Jimmy Graham you will lose.= that matchup.
Show me a video of Revis getting beat by a poor WR and then I may agree that it is overpoweredComment

So I guess there is no stopping Anthony Fasano and Alex Smith, because that's who I was playing against online.Jimmy Graham in real life is overpowered. Re: Corner routes
I didn't see that. I saw the video you linked. I only go by what I see and in my experience the corner route is stoppable. It is nothing against you, but I've learned not to trust what people say because many times they have an agenda or they simply aren't as good as they think.Comment

Re: Corner routes
The defensive AI is supposed to be able to adjust in order to get rid of money plays isn't it? Why is it still calling cover 1 then when he's already hit 4 corner routes already?Jimmy Graham in real life is overpowered. Re: Corner routes
That would be the problem, not corner routes. So you are absolutely right. My worry is that instead of improving the AI, EA takes the easy and wrong approach of nerfing things. We have seen it before.
From what I have seen, the adaptive AI is only minimally present in Madden and I don't think it affects playcall. So I think he could have ran corner after corner and had good success.
But to reiterate, not because the corner route is over powered.Comment

Re: Corner routes
I would have to agree with the OP here. The corner route in the game seems overpowered.
I rarely call it, but when I do its pretty much money.
It was mentioned that the corner route is hard to cover in real life, and with Jimmy Graham running it makes it even tougher.
If it was that tough to cover in the real NFL, than players would be running this route like crazy in the NFL, and they don't. Now why is that? Its simple they cover it better in real life.
The success rate that route has in Madden is way over the top from the success rate in the NFL.
This route has been money for years in Madden. I will test it out and see what can slow it down.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)

Re: Corner routes
Because teams know about it. Trust me if they see a guy like graham lined up a certain way they immediately know to look for certain routes. It is an area Madden needs improvement on.I would have to agree with the OP here. The corner route in the game seems overpowered.

Here, this article touches on what I am talking about:
In today’s installment of the “NFL 101” series, former NFL defensive back Matt Bowen breaks down the basics of the route tree to give you a better understanding of the pro game.
Now one area I would agree needs work is related to QB accuracy. Yeah they improved it this year, but it is more of a general across the board thing. In real NFL certain passes are more difficult to throw accurately, the corner route being among them. NFL team actually run the corner route pretty frequently but often the QB leads the WR too far towards the sideline or is more gun shy than a user playing Madden.
Going back to the op this ties into the reason Bench is so effective. Since the offense is in a tight formation this gives the QB much more field to work with on his throw.Comment

Re: Corner routes
Corner routes are very OP at the moment. Seeing them online all the time. I just played one guy who ONLY THREW corner routes, but he did a good job of masking a lot of them and scrambled like crazy then when I covered it.
You can try to shade outside and drop 4 back, but if he has a scrambling QB, good luck. That stuff is the hot cheese right now online.Comment
