Good plays for Fullbacks?
Does anyone know of any good plays that feature runs or short passes for fullbacks? I am rolling with the Panthers and Tolbert, and most plays don't really use the fullback.Tags: None -
Re: Good plays for Fullbacks?
Can't remember the specific name but in Strong formation in most playbooks there's a PA where the FB leaks out to the right; he rarely gets covered because the D sells out for the run by formation and personnel, a good FB can make gains there. -
Re: Good plays for Fullbacks?
Use the west coast or Bill Walsh playbook. A lot of formations like far, close, pro set, etc that utilize two backs.
Only drawback is I hope you are not a fan of shotgun.
You could create a custom playbook but I do not know your feelings on that.Comment

I will take a look at the far and close formations. I have never used those before, any experience on whether those plays are effective?
I am creating a custom playbook, so I am open to any formation. But I also play MUT, and custom playbooks are not possible in that mode.Comment

I myself have never used them much (always been more of a singleback guy).I will take a look at the far and close formations. I have never used those before, any experience on whether those plays are effective?

One problem you may encounter, if you want to get the FB the ball a large portion will come off of passes to the flats. In my experience ball carriers are not good at turning upfield so many passes to the flats result in the ball carrier running himself out of bounds for a minimal gainComment

If you throw it in the flats make sure you throw it to the wide side of the field (e.g. if the ball is on the left hashmark throw it to the right flats).I myself have never used them much (always been more of a singleback guy).

Also I've found the FB Dive from the Goalline formation to be quite successful in short yardage situations. Usually gains me 2-4 yds every time (although I'm more of a Shotgun guy and I rarely use my FB).My Miami Dolphins HC 09 dynasty:

Re: Good plays for Fullbacks?
Lots of playaction passes leak the fullback into the flats. Usually the TE on a deeper route and the WR on a streak. The WR usually carries the deep coverage away, then you're reading if the coverage goes medium on the TE and if they do, hit the FB in the flat.Comment

Also look for passing plays where the FB runs an angle route.
Those are fairly effective. In the Ravens playbook under strong I there is a play called F Angle that I use to call to get Juice the ball.Comment

Re: Good plays for Fullbacks?
I agree on the PA passes. Two that come to mind are the PA FB flat out of the I formation and the PA TE Leak out of the I Twins. If the FB is covered on the TE leak you should have a nice window to hit the TE on the corner routeComment
