Re: Madden #2 Top Selling Game in 2014 Even Without Some Penalties Called
I'm not surprised, Madden is a household name. Much like Call of Duty is, who had not ONE but TWO of their games make the top 10. Take away online play from that list, most of those games wouldn't sell well at all. That is the one common theme among all of them, they have very big online communities. -

Madden sells because of its name, the NFL badge, and exclusivity, its the CoD of sports game, these companies churn out the same old crap every year with no type of innovation because they have a formula that works. I have more respect for CoD because it has plenty of competition, I would like to see what Madden can do with comp.Comment

I'm conflicted by this news. I think this was most SIM attempt EA has offered in years so I hope that encourages EA to go more in that direction. At the same time, it's still the same football game it's always been in a lot of ways. Robo qbs when they pass but all prone to taking a ton of sacks. Bad player interactions, a lack of individual player personality, a feeling of severe repetition after playing various versions of this game exclusively for a decade.
I'd give anything for a completely different take on football, Madden' s financial successes ensures that will never happen.Comment

They don't care.Originally posted by UnforeseenxIf we got enough of the world to stop buying the POS we'd be able to get EA to either forfeit renewing their license or make an actual video game simulation of football. Unfortunately, an estimated 70% of the madden community lacks the intelligence and education to recognize that there is even a problem.Comment

What else were people going to buy? The industry has become homogenized, with few if any interesting or unique titles. Couple that with a transition to new hardware and it only thinned things down even further.
As for penalties, it seems EA is moving in the right direction in terms of providing products to reflect the sport, it's just they are going at a snail's pace with Madden. Yearly cycles, lack of a competing NFL game, more complex coding requirements for more advanced systems, and yes sitting pretty at #2 in sales, will probably keep Madden moving at a snail's pace too.Comment

Our voices are drowned out by the masses who prefer Maddenball not NFL football. They don't want penalties, fumbles, blocked/muffed kicks, weather effects, better A.I., defense, or organic gameplay, etc.Comment

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare = 17.59 Million sales worldwide / 8.29 Million in North America
Madden NFL 15 = 5.43 Million sales worldwide / 4.73 Million sales in North America
I think the numbers for Madden would be better on XBOX 360 and PS3 this year if they hadn't just totally aborted effort for those versions of the game.Last edited by FaceMask; 01-25-2015, 10:48 AM.Comment

Well, yeah, that's why I mentioned US only because I'm sure FIFA would have more WW vs MaddenCall of Duty Advanced Warfare = 17.59 Million sales worldwide / 8.29 Million in North America

About 5- 5.5 million has been maddens sales numbers throughout the ps3/360 era. EA sold their typical numbers without putting much money into those versions. Add in MUT revenue and this was probably their most profitable game on those consoles ever.Call of Duty Advanced Warfare = 17.59 Million sales worldwide / 8.29 Million in North America

MUT has been a big deal for them for years so that goes without saying. But in terms of units, they're having to release on 4 consoles to make that number now as opposed to two, that's actually not an ideal situation unless we look at the lack of effort they put into 15 on 360/PS3 as a positive for them and from a development standpoint it is a positive, but it's bad for the consumer who still relies on last gen.Comment

I was thinking those were just ps3/360 numbers. If those are totals, madden 15 want that much better than past versions. Whos to know though now that digital sales are so hard to track. Madden was the number 2 game nationwide this year so I have to believe EA is satisfied with what Madden delivered money wise.MUT has been a big deal for them for years so that goes without saying. I don't think selling 5.43 Million copies of a game is ever a bad thing. But I'm also sure they'd love to go back to the days when they were moving over 4 Million units on just one console (PS2 era), or even back to the time when they were pushing 9 and 10 Million units total respectively (Madden's 06 and 07).Comment
