    Base Stealing MLB 14-yes 14

In order to semi prep myself for mlb15, I dusted off my franchise of 2014 to refamiliarize myself with the game.

I use franchise, player lock-on a created imported player. What I find I cannot do, though I could before, is steal a base.

As I recall, R1 would make him increase a step in his lead, and when you feel safe going, R2 would make him take off.

I do find that R1 is increasing the lead, but R2 no longer makes him steal.

I tried both default and classic base running, with no difference.

Anybody know what I am forgetting?

I am playing every pitch for both teams, I only control my PL player, the first baseman. He advances normally like on a double with R1, but making him steal just isn't working. He just stands there

I swear that's how I stole last year, can't figure out why he doesn't move when I hit R2 now?

Any help would be appreciated. Looking forward to new release, just warming up now.

R1 increases lead like you mentioned. Hold down R2 and release when you want the running to break for the base.

If I remember correctly R2 is for a lean Use the left stick to the right to steal and to the left to dive back to the base.

Thanks, I think you nailed it. I will have to wait till I'm on base again, but almost positive I was not releasing R2, just keeping it pressed down.

        Thanks for jogging the cobwebs.

I never used the stick at all, I think that's a different base running style, perhaps Default. ? I use Classic. Pretty sure the other gent got it with the thing about releasing R2, don't think I was releasing it.

          Thanks

After reading through, OP is using classic baserunning in RTTS/P-Lock games. However it says R2 to steal, but doesn't say to hold/release it.

If you click down R2 and release at any point before the pitcher begins his windup, your player will automatically take off as soon as the pitcher moves (unless its a pickoff move).

Ok, I finally got a situation where I was on first, no other runners. I saved it and experimented until I 'got it'

This is note I wrote to myself, for future. I paste it here for anyone interested.

I saw nothing in that manual when I looked yesterday, it seems to only refer to the mode using the L stick which I don't use. I use Classic Base running, though I have to admit, this procedure seems to work in Default as well. Whatever!

                      1. Take extra step if desired with R1
                      2. Poise left finger over L1 to Retreat
                      3. At same time Press and HOLD R2.
                      4. If pitcher moves toward you Press L1 to get back to 1st
                      5. When you want to steal, release R2

That's what 'works for me'. Thanks for the replies.

re: the bolded part... read my reply right above yours. You don't have to hold it down until you want to take off and then release.

You can just click it and release, you'll feel a subtle vibration in the controller signifying it received your steal command, and then you'll take off as soon as the pitcher makes his move to the plate. If the pitcher goes into a pickoff move, you won't take off, you'll still be able to get back.

For whatever reason, I am finding that you do need to hold it down. He does not move if I simply push and release. Besides it save a few milliseconds doing it this way, its already pushed down, so you save those few ms, which in stealing can make a difference.

But anyway I find it does not work doing it the way you say. Lord knows why, but I actually think it is a fuzz quicker this way, time spent pushing button down is spent before you decide to go or not.

No no... you're still not getting me lol. Re-read what I wrote again:

I'm not saying click and release upon movement. BEFORE the pitcher even gets set (or after, its up to you, as long as he hasn't gone into his windup yet)... when you're just standing there on first base with your 1 step lead... click and release. Very quick. CLICK + RELEASE. Shouldn't take longer than a split-second. The pitcher is still probably staring at the catcher, shaking off signs, hasn't even moved yet... you've already clicked and released.

Once the pitcher moves, you don't need to do anything, your guy is taking off. It's the best possible jump you can get. He automatically goes without you yourself needing to time it. If the pitcher goes into a pickoff move, however, your guy won't take off. He'll stand there and you'll still need to hit L1 to get back to the bag. But he won't just take off leaving himself to get pickled.

This is how I do it in RTTS, it's almost unfair. I wish they had separate difficulty sliders for hitting and baserunning, because since they're tied together it means that having an acceptable hitting difficulty will also mean baserunning is too easy :-/

But I'm assuming that if it works in RTTS it should work in any other game mode. Controls are controls.

Ah ok, think I have tried that and he just takes off after i release, but maybe not. Sure worth looking into, as you say that would be best. I still have my save so I can look at it. Thanks I'll check that out in a few mins after I finish up m work here. That would be nice.
