Itbeme23 Sliders - Vet Hitting/A.S. Classic Pitching Emphasis on Accurate Strike %

    Hey Everybody,

It's that time of year again.....SHOW TIME!

For those of you that have used my sets in the past, you can expect the same from me this year, so while I'll TRY not to get novel-writer in this post, I make no promises. Ha.

As in years past, my sliders will always START with obtaining accurate FIRST PITCH & OVERALL STRIKE PERCENTAGES. Once I find the slider sweet spot for those percentages, then I start working on my hitting sliders. I will say that I've been pretty fortunate when it comes to Veteran hitting and accurate strike percentages for the past couple of years. I was able to find the right slider combination relatively quickly, and I am encouraged by the results. This has allowed me to hone in the hitting sliders, as well as observing different things like infielder reaction/outfielder speed, etc.

These sliders will be using the Veteran Timing Hitting and All-Star Classic Pitching interfaces. Simply put, these are the interfaces that allow for player ratings to have the most affect on the game. I've been a Classic Pitching convert for a few years now, and I can't imagine playing the game any other way.

    Slider Key:

Green: SLIDER CONSIDERED FINAL. WILL NOT BE CHANGED UNLESS STATS DICTATE OTHERWISE.
Red: Slider still a work in progress.
Blue: No definitive observations/not actively testing.

    STATS FROM TESTING PHASE

    Guys,

These stats will be broken down in three different categories: Offense, Pitching, and Fielding. Keep in mind, the focus of these stats will be mostly on offense and pitching (especially strike percentages), with Errors being the main stat in the fielding category.

Thanks again for all your help with testing and feedback. I can't say enough how much all of your input has meant to this set.

Just a couple of observations from the last few games:

                    - I will more than likely raise CPU Solid Hits to 7 for my next test series. CPU offense feels like it's lacking a bit. I won't include this in the original slider post until after I'm certain that's where I'd like it to stay.

                    - I've seen a couple of head-scratching moments regarding unnecessary relay throws (outfielders to infielders). In some situations, it seems like instead of the infielder "eating" the ball or running the ball back into the infield, they'll unnecessarily throw to a base or home plate, even when the runner isn't threatening to advance. I just got a cheap inside the park home run with Yasiel Puig, because Pedroia decided to throw home after a triple, which was off target, and that allowed Puig to score. Should've been scored an E-4 on the throw, but instead they gave Puig the home run. I'm thinking this might be tied to the infielder throwing error slider, but it will need more observation/testing to confirm.

I really like how you explain your thinking with each slider. I wish everyone took that route to share their knowledge since some sliders are more obscure than others in what they affect and the change they make to the gameplay.

To note one part: "Baserunner Speed: 5

                        - I haven’t decided on this yet, but there appears to be a weird running animation happening, especially when hitters are running to first base. It’s almost like the runner gets stuck in between steps and glides towards first base. I don’t know if this is a slider issue, or something that will need to be addressed in a patch. Definitely something to keep an eye on for sure."

I haven't played yet but I believe the devs stated in a stream that this year players will run full sprint all the way to the bag like they are in a relay race if they hit the ball that will result in most likely them being out, like a soft grounder or pop fly. It's a great change imo one of those little things!

Thanks, man. I try to explain any changes that I make to the sliders in as much detail as I can. I don't arbitrarily adjust sliders. As I've said in the past, any changes that I do make are to achieve a specific statistical goal. The main thing is figuring out which sliders affect with stat, and then going forward from there. As of now, I'm pretty happy with where I am with the set, but I imagine there will be changes to come.

As far as the baserunning goes, I have noticed that the baserunners will run all the way through the bag, whether it's a routine play or not. However, I still believe that there is an animation issue that either needs to be patched, or maybe an adjustment to the Baserunner Speed slider might correct it. Again, I just haven't had a chance to really dive into that specific part of the game just yet.

Re: Itbeme23 Sliders - Vet Hitting/A.S. Classic Pitching Emphasis on Accurate Strike

Today is the first time that I've actually went over the stats from my test games without any distractions and/or when I'm not dead tired.

I'm very happy with strike percentages up to this point, and I don't think that I will be making any adjustment to those sliders.

Something that seems to be a trend, at least in the games that I've posted, is the fact that CPU pitchers still seem to be getting pulled a little earlier than they should, even with Manager Hook at 4. If you check out the test game stats, you'll notice that in most games, the CPU starter is being pulled at about 5 innings (Ian Kennedy being the exception), even when his pitch count wouldn't seem to warrant a pitching substitution. I know that there are in-game situations that would affect the manager pulling his starter earlier than normal, but the frequency that it's happening is becoming borderline unrealistic.

It's possible that I will lower the CPU Manager Hook one more click to 3 in order to resolve the issue with starters being pulled too early, but that might result in the issue of relievers being left in the game too long. It's very rare to see middle relievers going longer than a couple of innings, even when their confidence is high. My concern is that lowering Manager Hook to 3 will result in relievers being left in for 3+ innings. If I do end up lowering Manager Hook, I think that I will end up lowering Reliever Stamina to 1 to compensate. I think that is something I may test tonight after work.
