Louis Williams wins 6th Man of the Year, Isaiah Thomas SNUBBED

If you all haven't heard the news today, Louis Williams of the Toronto Raptors has won 6th Man of the Year. It came as a surprise to me, and it should have come as a surprise to anyone who's been tracking the candidates for this award.

Isaiah Thomas' numbers were better across the board, and he led the Boston Celtics to the Playoffs. He played well for the Suns, and flourished with the Celtics immediately.

These awards are becoming a joke, and seeming more and more like a popularity contest. The only explanation I have to offer is Drake's song about him. Drake has immense influence in the media, and this has to be taken account for. Also not the first time the Raptors have benefit from a star vouching for a player. I'm sure you all remember Justin Bieber catapulting Kyle Lowry into the All-Star Game.

To back up my argument, here are the stats for both players for the 14-15 season:

    Lou Will
15.5 ppg, 2 rpg, 2 apg, 1 spg on 40% from the field, 34% from three, and 86% from the line in 25 mpg with an efficiency rating of +10.35

    IT
19 ppg, 2 rpg, 5 apg, 0.6 spg on 41% from the field, 35% from three, 86% from the line in 26 mpg with an efficiency rating of +14.51

As you can see IT wins in nearly every category, and when you consider the circumstances he should have been even more of a lock. This was a travesty, and the strength of pop culture is becoming extremely too evident in the sports world. Very sad to see, now let's see what other awards the mess up.

Yeah nobody cares about the award, but Thomas still deserves it. He's a much better player (and playmaker) than Louis

There are only a handful of awards, it's kind of a big deal.

And yes, Drake had an impact, sadly.

                  Well since you wanted it.........

1.Drake didn't influence anything here. In the other thread I did vote for Thomas as 6th man of the year, but Lou would definitely be in the top 3 of that discussion. He had to step up even more when Lowry and/or DeRozan were out and be one of the key contributors on the team, so that was probably taken into consideration also.

2.Bieber didn't influence Lowry in all star game. He didn't even properly tweet out the hashtag to make a single vote count in Lowrys favor. Not to mention he did so on the very final day of voting. Would you have wanted to see Wade in over Lowry anyways, Wade wasn't even gonna play.

If better record can play half the role (more in some cases) in determining our MVP then I don't have a problem with Williams beating out IT with a better record.

I think those two guys are the top two though, followed by Iggy for 3rd.

Another factor was probably that Lou played basically every game. He played 80 compared to Thomas at 66 and Crawford at 60.

So playing anywhere from 14-20 games more than the top 2 other contenders for that award is probably another factor that went into this.

There's really no way to prove or disprove either. And also, Bieber definitely had some influence. Even on the final day and without the proper hashtag his fan base is so immense that it did make a difference.

Also, yes Lou played 80 and IT played 67*, but that's not a big enough game difference to be factored in, at least not to me. After all Russell Westbrook was in MVP consideration, KD made the AS Game missing more games than he played, etc.

I think record should only matter (unless the difference is dramatic) when you're talking about MVP & DPOY

It's really hard to take the conspiracy theory seriously if you think Drake or Beiber had any influence on anything NBA related... even harder when the argument is about a player making a meaningless All Star Game.
