Playmakers NCAA 14 1990's All Decade Teams

    ncaa-football-franchise-history-1.jpg ncaa-football-franchise-history-2.jpg ncaa-football-franchise-history-4.jpg ncaa-football-franchise-history-19.jpg

This was a project I initially had started and then put on hold in order to update my Alumni Rosters from NCAA 11 to NCAA 14.

I've now decided to move forward with creating a file that represents and entire decade of the 90's College Football era.

Although there is no perfect ratings system for these types of rosters I will continue to use a ratings system based off Information provided through NFL Draft scout.com.

Players who played in the early part of the 90's will have very limited information online for scouting reports but I have a system that I use comparing them to former players from the program who had similar playing style tendencies to help recreate them as best as possible on the file.

As with the Alumni Rosters I will set the depth charts and determine which class to assign each player based on their last year of College.

Anyone who played at the start of the decade will represent the SR Class.

Example Desmond Howard, David Klinger and Carl Pickens all played at the start of the decade.

Clinton Portis and Ken Dorsey players who started their career at the end of the decade 1999 would be an example of the Freshmen class.

    Player Resource links for ratings:

Re: Playmakers NCAA 14 1990's All Decade Teams

      The Heisman Winners: 1990s

1990 | Ty Detmer QB, BYU (Jr.)
Undersized long-shot candidate tore up teams with 5,188 passing yards and 41 touchdowns.

Heisman moment: Orchestrated upset of top-ranked Miami, completing 38 of 54 passes for 406 yards and three TDs.

      1991 | Desmond Howard WR-PR, Michigan (Jr.)
Acrobatic game-breaker and the first receiver in Big Ten history to lead the conference in scoring, with 138 points.

Heisman moment: Struck the Pose after a 93-yard punt return touchdown against Ohio State, prompting announcer Keith Jackson to say, "Helloooooo, Heisman."

1992 | Gino Torretta QB, Miami (Sr.)
Leader of a Hurricanes team that had back-to-back undefeated regular seasons and won the 1991 national title.

Heisman moment: Came through in the clutch against Florida State with a 14-yard run, followed by a TD pass, in a 19-16 win.

1993 | Charlie Ward QB, Florida State (Sr.)
Lived up to expectations as preseason favorite, leading Seminoles to a national title, then played pro ball -- in the NBA.

Heisman moment: Closed out his final regular-season game with a win over Florida, throwing four touchdown passes to end the Gators' 23-game home winning streak.

1994 | Rashaan Salaam RB, Colorado (Jr.)
Burst onto the radar with four consecutive 200-yard rushing games and became the fourth I-A player in history to run for more than 2,000 yards in a season.

Heisman moment: One week after rushing for 165 yards in the Miracle in Michigan, gashed Texas for 312 yards.

1995 | Eddie George RB, Ohio State (Sr.)
Big back set a single-season school record for rushing (1,927 yards) while rarely playing more than three quarters.

Heisman moment: Against Illinois and the Big Ten's second-ranked rushing defense, had 314 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and one receiving score.

1996 | Danny Wuerffel QB, Florida (Sr.)
Led Florida to its first national title while throwing for 39 touchdowns, best in the country, and 3,625 yards.

Heisman moment: Set a single-game school record with 462 passing yards in a 42-7 rout of Arkansas.

      1997 | Charles Woodson CB-PR, Michigan (Jr.)
Only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman also dazzled as a receiver and punt returner.

Heisman moment: Had a 37-yard catch, a 78-yard punt return touchdown and an end zone interception in a 20-14 victory against Ohio State to help clinch the Big Ten title.

1998 | Ricky Williams RB, Texas (Sr.)
Fullback turned tailback's combination of speed and power helped him set the NCAA I-A alltime rushing record.

Heisman moment: Plowed through two Texas A&M defenders and ran past two more for a 60-yard touchdown run that broke Tony Dorsett's alltime rushing record.

1999 | Ron Dayne RB, Wisconsin (Sr.)
Division I-A's alltime rushing leader with 6,397 yards, breaking Williams's one-year-old mark.

Heisman moment: Needing just 99 yards to break the record, Dayne poured in 216 against the Hawkeyes, driving the Badgers to the Big Ten conference title.

Re: Playmakers NCAA 14 1990's All Decade Teams

4 Team Demo Coming Soon with the Following Programs

        FSU 1990's All-Decade

Overall Record: 109-13-1. Bowls: 8-2. National Championships: 2. Star Players: Charlie Ward (Heisman), Terrell Buckley (Thorpe), Marvin Jones (Butkus), Sebastian Janikowski (Groza), Peter Warrick, Warrick Dunn, Travis Minor, Casey Weldon, Derrick Brooks, Corey Simon, Peter Boulware, Andre Wadsworth. The Seminole's and Cornhuskers are of course, #1 and #2, and I had to choose FSU to edge the top spot. Not only did they play Miami and Florida (both Top 5 programs of the 1990's) every year, but the Bobby Bowden-led Seminoles won at least 10 games every year. Featuring one Heisman winner in Charlie Ward and about 55 stud NFL players, the Garnet and Gold featured a viciously fast defense and the occasional offensive superstar like Peter Warrick (who should have won the 1999 Heisman). When you turned on ABC and saw FSU playing you knew that somehow, no matter how much you willed the plucky underdog/Florida opponent to win, the Seminoles were coming out with a W...and that's the sign of a dominant program. Also, imagine the possibilities without the two Wide Right kicks. Soooo reasons for picking FSU over Nebraska: Harder schedule, better bowl record, more NFL players, 2-0 head to head record v Nebraska, 1 more national championship appearance.

        Florida State: IT STARTS HERE

        IMPACT/ALL AMERICAN PLAYERS
        WR-Peter Warrick-(Jr, 5'11 195 lbs) 85 ovr
Earned consensus All-America honors after one of the finest seasons by a wide receiver in Florida State history...finalist for the Biletnikoff Award as well as a first team Associated Press and Walter Camp All-American...also earned first team All-ACC after catching 61 passes for 1,232 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns

        DT-Corey Simon-(Jr, 6'2 298 lbs) 87 ovr
Burst onto the national scene in the first injury-free season of his career...finished third on the team with 65 tackles...had 16 stops for loss, the second best season figure in school history behind Ron Simmons (17 in 1979) ...first team All-ACC pick and winner of the ACC's Brian Piccolo Award.

        CB-Terrell Buckley-(Sr, 5'10 180 lbs) 88 ovr
Buckley became one of the most dominant corners in the country from 1990-1991. He was selected a 2nd team All-American by three different publications in '90, then turned in the best performance by any defensive back in Florida State history in 1991.
You just didn't throw on Terrell Buckley in '91. His 12 interceptions that seasons is still a school record at FSU.

        Miami Hurricanes 1990's All-Decade

Overall Record: 92-27. Bowls: 5-3. National Championships: 1. Star Players: Gino Torretta (Heisman), Warren Sapp (Bednarik), Russell Maryland (Outland), Santana Moss, Edgerrin James, Michael Barrow, Ed Reed, Craig Erickson, Ray Lewis, Jesse Armstead. The best program of the 1980's sustained its dominance into the 1990's led by Torretta and incredibly talented defenders like Maryland and Sapp. The undefeated 1991 team only gave up 100 points, cementing Miami's reputation as the center of the college football universe for defensive standouts. The legend of the Florida athlete was furthered by the much-watched Miami/Florida State matchups that were intense matchups usually decided in the last two minutes. Unfortunately, the Hurricane program was becoming well known for its tragedies (Jerome Brown, Shane Curry) and the Hurricane's ran into a wall in 1997, when an unfathomable losing record stopped the Canes from making a bowl game.

Re: Playmakers NCAA 14 1990's All Decade Teams

Played a Demo CPU vs CPU game between FSU at Texas and Ricky Williams (22-139 yards) helped lead the Longhorns to a monster 271 yard rushing day helping them defeat the Noles 21-19.

FSU shot themselves in the foot throughout this game with penalties registering 11 for 95 yards which is the most I've ever witnessed by a single team since purchasing NCAA 14.

They had a 2-PT conversion attempt wiped out in the 3rd qtr due to a holding call which would have tied the game up at 14. Later on they had a rare Defensive PI call on Terrell Buckley midway through the 4th qtr that kept a Texas drive alive which led to a Ricky Williams 17 Yard TD Run.

Overall I was impressed with Texas sticking to the run based on a conservative Run Heavy offense with James Brown at QB. The Longhorns kept it on the ground 46 times vs only 16 pass attempts.

On the other end of the perspective FSU allowed Charlie Ward to air it out 40 times and he connected with 9 different receivers but was often forced to throw early by a surprising Texas Pass Rush. Tony Brackens and Shaun Rogers didn't register any sacks but they seemed to bring heat all game on Ward.

I will attempt to provide more stats after each completed team to give an idea of how they perform on the field.

Box score's will be posted in my slider thread since they aren't allowed in the roster section for some reason.

Yeah the 90's is the era in which I loved sports the most...

This was suppose to be my initial roster set on NCAA 14 last year until I delayed because someone found away to convert the Alumni rosters from NCAA 11 to 14 which allowed me to add 20 more teams to that original file.

These will be a little more lower rated as opposed to the Star studded Alumni rosters...

I graduated high school in June 1990. I remember in college having Tecmo Bowl tournaments on our dorm floor - we would draw names out of a hat, create a tourney board and put $5 apiece on it. Those games were phenomenal. The guy who won just ordered pizza and we had a feast... Fun times!

Re: Playmakers NCAA 14 1990's All Decade Teams

The research for these teams are little more difficult than the All Time Alumni teams because I'm limiting the era of football to just one decade.

I'm also going to scale back ratings and try to limit the top 10 programs to beiong the only schools rated 90 or higher overall.

That list will come from a few articles I recently read doing some reserach....

College Football: Looking Back In The 90s, Part 1
This is my first piece of a few on college football in the 1990s. Other stories will be about the top 10 teams of the 90s, top 10 individual performances, top 20 games and possibly my top 10 favorite players...

rankings 11-25 will all be programs rated in the 80-89 range and anyone listed in the others recieving votes will grade out in the 70's.

That means this file will actually have quite a few programs rated 70 and under because of the scaled back ratings for the 90's decade rosters.

Looking forward to this, and im going to go ahead and get excited about it because when Playmakers starts a roster project, he pretty much always sees it through

Looking forward to the 90's idea because it will allow for more/less roster depth, where as the Alumni rosters pretty much had 90+ rated players 5 deep at every position.

The 90's is the era in which I grew up watching and loving college football the most.

I guess that's why I choose this decade to be my next roster project for NCAA 14.

I do plan on spreading out ratings much wider for this set of rosters since generally an all time team is going to have much more talent than a all decade team......

But in fairness to the Alumni rosters considering the amount of elite talent on those rosters I think they were rated pretty fair in terms of the number of players being rated a 90 or higher for each team...

Take Texas for example of their 69 players on the All Time Alumni Team only 9 players received a overall of 90 or higher despite their great football tradition.

They had 41 players rated in the 80's and 19 players rated in the 70's....

Then when you break down the Texas Alumni roster by position they didn't have a single player rated in the 90's at the following positions

                          FB
                          WR
                          TE
                          DE
                          CB
                          K

Only 2 positions represented multiple players rated 90 or higher

RB (Earl Campbell (97) and Ricky Williams (93) in which some might even argue those ratings could be considered slightly low taking into consideration what they both accomplished in college.

S (Jerry Gray (96) and Johnnie Johnson (92)

So the Alumni teams may appear to be rated very high but when you start to break down the rosters individually you'll see despite the number of great talents that passed through each program I did in a way manage to keep a great deal of talent below 90 overall for each roster.

Now in comparison what I mean by scaling down ratings Texas All 90's Decade team will have the same amount of players 69 but they are being limited to one decade and the talent level will drop off.

The All Decade Texas Team only has 3 players rated in the 90's.

Freshmen LB Lee Jackson had the lowest rating on the team of 50 and RB Ricky Williams had the highest rating of 94

Their overall ratings breakdown looks this way:

                          90-99 (3 players)
                          80-89 (24 players)
                          70-79 (31 players)
                          60-69 (7 players)
                          50-59 (3 players)

Didn't mean to get to detailed I just didn't want people to assume the All Time Alumni rosters had 90+ rated players dominating each position for every school which is not the case when you observe and break down each program.

But for those who enjoy less talented teams and ratings spread out more then the All Decade teams will be closer to that formula simply because the talent level and depth takes a hit overall.

I like the way your scaling the ratings on this set. Been busy, but I will start putting together some SEC teams. Would it be easier if I did it on teambuilder? That way you could burn through them. I'll try not to do too many at once. in case teambuilder's server runs out... With equipment I could collect player photos and make a power point.
