NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
One area that the other game is killing 2k is atmosphere, season, playoffs, and finals needs a big upgrade.the crowd needs to get super loud in situation and even louder in postseason. I read somewhere that the other game goes to playoff games and record live crowd chants ect...They also got authentic arena chant sounds,my Lakers sounds like the laker but when I play 2k its some but most are generic.Hmmm I wonder do the other game got exclusive rights just like MSG??Last edited by simbayless; 06-20-2015, 11:42 AM.Tags: None -
Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
2k actually has it right. I've been to rocket/spurs games and its no way near loud with fans screaming and booing like in nba live -
Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
The OP is right in that Live (the game does have a name) does a better job in terms of overall crowd audio. But the response is right as well in that playoff games aren't ALWAYS as loud as either game makes them out to be.Last edited by Boilerbuzz; 06-21-2015, 12:25 AM.Comment

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
Totally agree! This is one area where Live beats 2K handedly, IMO. Listening to them both on my surround set it's clear that Live puts in work in this area. The noise level may not be totally accurate, but man is it well done and immersive. It differentiates playoff games from the regular deason and I love it. The arena sounds add a great touch, too. I hope 2K steps it up in this area, along with lighting; why are the upper decks so dark?Comment

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
No, I don't. Look at the crowd in NBA 2K15 and then look at the crowd in Live 15. 2K's crowd characters go dark, as in, it looks like they are sitting in the dark, way before Live's. Heck, go into the replay mode and compare similar shots from the same area of the court and notice the difference in crowd lighting. Live's crowd is just better man. It's easy to rip on Live's flaws because they are charging 60$ for the game, same as 2K, but you have to give these guys credit where it's due. Gotta call a spade, a spade. They deserve it in this area over 2K, IMO.Comment

Eh 2k already said they upgraded the crowd....No, I don't. 2k already has arena specific sounds and crowd chants....they just to need to have the crowd noise sound natural. The other issue is how it doesn't sound seamless when a crowd cheers to booing next. It just sounds disjointed to me....Comment

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
It needs a jump, but it doesn't need to be unrealistic like Live. Live takes "crowd atmosphere" too far (when EA does something they usually over-do it), and it comes off as forced. The crowd isn't ALWAYS standing, isn't ALWAYS loud and cheering/clapping or holding up signs...and yes that's true even during the playoffs. I know some may want a wild, boisterous and crazy "atmosphere" while playing a sports video game but I prefer a game staying as true to the actual sport as possible. Having said that, the crowd reactions are too mild and sometimes don't happen at the right times in 2K. There is definitely a "disjointed" feel to everything...from the sound, to the appropriate reactions. That desperately needs to finally be addressed.Comment

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
That's fine and I eagerly await any new info on 2K16 to see what exactly (upgraded is vague) has been improved with respect to crowds, lighting and atmosphere. Whatever specific arena sounds 2K has haven't jumped out to me, yet. Not saying it's not there, but I really haven't noticed any difference in arenas like I have with Live. That may be because Live is overdone, nevertheless, I notice it, and I appreciate it during big games. 2k doesn't need to copy Live, per se, just give the atmosphere and overall upgrade. Especially since we no longer have our custom arena sounds. I have the utmost confidence in the team as they are the best in the business.Eh 2k already said they upgraded the crowd....

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
I'm sorry but Live has more generic arena sounds....the same organ music can be heard in almost all the arenas. 2K has a variety of organ music for most (Charlotte was new last year so to me it sounds generic) of the arenas. Not to mention the bells and whistles...even the arena guy says somethings different. That's fine and I eagerly await any new info on 2K16 to see what exactly (upgraded is vague) has been improved with respect to crowds, lighting and atmosphere. Shoot a three at Milwaukee and listen to the crowd change
Turnover at Philly and listen to the arena announcer
Compare the organ music to the Knicks and the Lakers and it's COMPLETELY different.
I would knock 2k if the arena atmosphere were the same but it isn't the case. I don't remember which 2k video showcased this but after that vid they steadily added more bells and whistles though the years. AGAIN my issue is the crowd noise and how it sounds so unnatural at times. What Live does is awesome....getting actual recordings just made the game feel more natural sounding! I wish 2k would do the same for crowd noise....
I was planning on making a vid of each arena variety but I have no editing skills whatsoever so I just held it off. I might just do one now...Comment

They do though. Something just happens to that data and in the end, Live sounds like 20k people and 2K sounds like 2k people with the volume turned up. Lives ambient crowd track is just so much richer. And I think they over do it because it is so well done and they are trying to show off. Maybe VC's variety comes at a cost against that quality.Comment

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
I honestly don't care if its overdone but there needs to be a huge boost as the OP said in 2ks crowd audio.
Singers over pronounce their words so people can hear clearly, and it should be the same thought here
I am willing to be a HUGE advocate for this
Try watching a movie in a movie theater with computer speakers vs what they use normally and it will stick out like a sore thumb, and be MUCH less Immersive.
Sorry for the examples but its the best way I can explain what I mean.
Commentary - best out there
Arena sounds - much improved
Crowd - needs tons of work

Im even willing to gather posts and threads for an OS article if Steve will allow it
EDIT: Thread won't open so Ill bump itComment

Spot on!! I was just looking at some YouTube videos and the crowd in the finals is dull as hell, there should be exciment, but the crowd seems like they just woke up in the am and wanna go back to sleepI honestly don't care if its overdone but there needs to be a huge boost as the OP said in 2ks crowd audio.

Re: NBA atmosphere needs a big jump!!
Not to mention the crowds need to do a better job at reacting at the right moments.
I'll be at home, and lets say on a 10-0 run, and crowd will get loud (not always tho). Then I'll go down and nail another shot, making it a 12-0 run. So many times the crowd will just get dead quiet then, when they should be getting louder at every made shot.Comment
