Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?

In NBA 2K15 it was nearly impossible to block a shot in the air, the occurrence was extremely rare and didn't happen as often as it should especially for elite shot blockers. It's also pretty much impossible to block a shot from behind unless it's a dunk.

We also see (although rare) guys like LeBron James and Blake Griffin performing blocks while already in the air and 180 blocks, it would be nice to see something like this every now and then in the game. In NBA 2K15 it seems that once you jump to block a shot you are helpless and must wait for the animation to finish.

Doing things like pinning lay-ups against the glass (which is a common thing LeBron does) is never really seen, the only truly blockable shots from behind were ****-back dunks.

Here's a collection of some block videos, showcasing blocks we don't really see:

    NBA Chasedown Compilation
LeBron's signature play, the chasedown block
Wilt Chamberlain showcases insane leaping ability by blocking shots in mid-air

This is probably one of the biggest things I want changed too. So tired of seeing the "elbow blocks" where you block someone with an elbow or forearm instead of the hand. Hopefully this is addressed and we can see more realistic blocking in 2k16.

I feel like this would assist the defense in online play as well as offline, as of now the defense has one block animation and that's to jump in the air and swat a single arm. To help counter zig zagging and ridiculous shots the defense needs more mechanics and animations to work with.

I really hope ball tracking is back. My player would jump himself out of the play sometimes.

We've talked about this all year, haha

          Hopefully they've heard us...

It's arguably 2K15's weakest part for gameplay. Even if you do connect on a great block, often it barely changes the trajectory of the ball regardless of the force of the block, which just looks weird. The blocker's hand absolutely needs to be tracking to the ball. Half the time the ball goes right through hands on blocks as well.

Probably would have heard something by now if it was being overhauled significantly?

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?

I just played a few games against my friend and I was using the Thunder and he was using the Warriors.

I didn't block a single shot with Ibaka...Curry threw me into animation after animation on layups...

Then on the other end I'd drive in with Westbrook and Draymond Green would come flying in from nowhere to block me...

Multiple times I thought I'd have a great block setup with Ibaka and he'd jump an inch off the ground..

This kinda stuff happened all year but for some reason it was annoying me last night lol.

If they found a happy medium from 14 and 15 I'd be okay.
In 14 you'd have point guards sending shots flying just because the game chose the wrong dunk animation in a situation but at least a block would happen where it should.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

**** me this is one of the things that would make me rage the most about this game. He would jump no problem when trying to block a damn alley oop but when you are in position to actually jump up to block a shot he makes no effort whatsoever.

Yep I can't stand that at all.

How many times in their career have Dwight, Shaq, Drummond (huge centers) been posterized? Maybe a few? Yet they averaged 2 blocks or more a game.
Pop in 2K15 and try and dunk on them and it'll happen at least once a game and they'll never block you straight up.
All blocks come from the weak side and they're little tips from behind, never swats.

Being a huge Sixers fan, playing with Nerlens is very underwhelming lol

That's what I fear, you're probably right in that we would've heard something by now if it was worked on majorly. I'll be disappointed if it was barely touched, defense needs serious improvement in this game and this is one of the ways to help it. Perhaps it's a surprise feature, but you never know until the game drops.

Dwight was once a back-to-back-to-back DPOY, I understand he isn't the dominant shot blocker he once was due to back problems, but thanks to 2K the dude commonly plays what is known as the "Enes Kanter" defense and it's ridiculous.

On a side note....When I'm running out to contest a jumper I'd like to be able to jump off one foot. I'm so sick of being a little late and trying to jump at a shot only to have my man take a dump and read the entire newspaper before jumping. As if defense isn't bad enough

Another issue with the blocking last year was your guy jumping a second after you hit the block button. Or your guy always gathering himself before jumping, also throwing off the timing of blocks.

These are world class athletes. No reason they have to gather before jumping. And I want my guy to actually start jumping as soon as I hit the jump button...not a second later.

Still don't get why they scrapped the blocking system completely after 2K14...I know it had some wonky aspects with guards getting blocks but I loved it man...I used to let guys get by me sometimes so I could square up and swat guys with Timmy...
