Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now For Xbox One Gold Subscribers w/o EA Access

Xbox One Gold subscribers can currently download a trial version of Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR and play it for 10 hours without an EA Access account.

While no official word has been announced, it appears as though the trial will be available until August 31, during this week’s Deals With Gold and Spotlight Sale, where Gold subscribers can purchase the game for $40.19.

If we get an official response from EA, we will update this post.

OK, the Xbox One home page shows it as free with Gold this week. I'll update the post.

I uninstalled the EA Access version and now I'm installing this trial, just to see if there is any sort of time limit restriction. (Unless more details arrive before it finishes)

You were able to install it after having played the EA Access version through completion? Maybe I didn't uninstall the EA Access version after all? It still shows as "Time Expired" when I call it up from the link on the store homepage...

I uninstalled the EA Access version, then I started the trial download process over again. Did you uninstall? Mine is at 36% atm.

Yeah, I checked and I had uninstalled the EA Access version, but also, my 10 hours had expired. Had your EA Access trial expired before you tried it? The current trial screen comes up after I click on the Games With Gold link on the main page, and just below the "Buy" item is a grayed out "Trial Expired option. I guess this is where the "Play Trial" button should be?

It's really not that big of a deal. I had tried everything I wanted to try in the earlier trial. The only thing I was curious about was how the swing interface changes had affected the accuracy. I don't see a lot of people talking about that so it must not have had much impact, yay or nay. Then again, I don't see that many people talking about this game period, which is probably not a good thing either.

Hmmm. Ya, it must be tied to EA Access somehow. When I launch it, it says I have a few hours left. Will be interested to hear what some of you without EA Access see.

I'll update the OP as I find out more info. EA isn't responding for some reason. Based off of feedback on Twitter, it seems users that are NOT EA Access subscribers can download the trial for free, if they are Xbox Gold subscribers. A few of them mention they are getting 10 hours of gameplay. Just want to confirm a few more before updating the OP. Thanks everyone.

Now there's a shocking news flash! :) This has been the most poorly handled roll-up, and post-release damage control title I've ever seen with any EA Sports game I've followed. They apparently don't have a P/R handler for this game who will do anything other than highlight the few doting replies they get on Twitter. They're getting eaten alive on their Facebook page to the point that they've even quit trying to mitigate damage there... I'm just flabbergasted at the way this is being handled!?

I don't have EA Access at the moment and downloaded the trial. Screen popped up that I have 10 hours of game play left so looks like it's 10 hours just like on Access.

I went to the game's facebook page just out of curiosity after reading your comment, OnlookerDelay, and holy (expletive)....I mean, I know that a lot of the comments are people trying to 1-up each other on the trolling/insulting (as is customary on the Interwebs these days), but I think that might be one of the worst I've seen. It's good for laughs, though. Some of the comments on there are just flat-out funny. Obviously they've given up trying to curate that forum in any way, shape, or form...

I'd give a free demo a shot, though. The graphics look really good, I'll give the game that.

You know it amazes me how troll like some previously respected golf forum posters have become lately........SMH.

If I'm coming off like a troll for stating my honest opinions, then I guess I need to re-evaluate my comments. I'm not trying to troll the game, but I'm seriously disappointed in the current state of the game and almost as disappointed in the way EA Sports has done virtually nothing to address the commonly expressed complaints about the game. I had high hopes for this game setting a new standard for next-generation golf games, and it may very well do so eventually, but right now it's got a pretty tough row to hoe.

Not coming off like a troll from my perspective. Not sure where that comment came from....maybe he was referring to the Facebook posters?

No, that was directed at me and he wasn't just firing a shot across the bow... he really meant it and because I respect him as a poster, I have to seriously consider what he said. I tend to not get bent out of shape over something somebody says on the internet and as a result, I'm overly tolerant of abrasive posters, probably to a fault. I can see where I could easily fall into the trap of getting overly sarcastic and facetious, as I think is the case here. Every now and then I need a course correction and this is one of them.

I respect your sense of propriety and willingness to be self-introspective, Onlooker.

Onlooker,

I apologise for coming across with the 'Troll like' comment,it was the wrong choice of words.
I think it was a knee jerk reaction to a number of posts I have read here & on other forums that are not in favour of the game.(your opinion I know,I see that now)
I have a good idea that if the negativity around RM continues we will not be seeing any future improvements beyond September so I guess I was just trying to stop your small contribution to the sh-it storm.

Feel free to shoot me down in the future

RIF

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now For Xbox One Users without EA Access?

RIFRIG, no apology is really needed here... you said what was on your mind at the time, and looking back at the trend in my escalating criticism of RMPGAT, I went further than I needed to go to make my point. I had very high expectations for this game and it has been a huge disappointment to me. I guess I'm just venting my disappointment in paths I usually don't venture down.

The more I think about it, the more I thing this game was simply released before it was finished. I tried playing a head-to-head match during the EA Access period and it was barely even a shell of the experience that head to head play had been in the previous installments in the TW series. Then I tried playing my favorite mode of the series, online tournaments, and again, it just felt like a shell of the previous experience.

I'm not going to go into the other two show-stopper items for me in this game because I've belabored them enough already. I just hope that at some point, this game gets groomed into the kind of shape a game that looks this good, and has this sort of license working for it deserves. EA Sports has too much money invested in this game to put it out to pasture because of a heavy dose early criticism. I think a couple more updates from now they'll probably have in much better condition. I'll be ready to part with my cash when it has addressed the curable issues that myself, and lots of others have already identified. EA Sports may not be communicating with the community in the sort of depth most of us expect, but I expect they're listening... they're smart enough to know what to do to turn this around, IMO.
