Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

To introduce myself, I have been a Madden player since the beginning and honestly I haven't had this much fun playing since Madden '05. I have enjoyed the game play since we finally have receivers and defensive backs playing like they should and not to mention that we have penalties now. You could say I am a little excited to play this game. Now if we can get this patch.

So with that in mind, I want to get the QB accuracy slider right. I have tried a few different slider settings and while some games look good at times as far as completion percentage is concerned there are not enough realistic bad passes by the QB.

I have put together a chart of potential starting QB's this season you may use in your CFM. This includes their passing percentage and their bad pass statistics from last year. I have also included what I could on players who don't have whole lot of stats either because they are rookies or they haven't played in a while.

For those who are not familiar, the bad pass stat involves underthrows and overthrows that went for incompletions. This does not include throw aways or defended passes. So, I am issuing a challenge to all the slider gurus out there and those that want to give it the old college try. Feel free to post what you have discovered and stats that are comparable to last year's stats. I will try any setting you have posted that give us comparable realistic stats.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I think the best way to get results for what your trying to see especially on All-Pro or Pro Level is to lower the QBA slider down significantly.

The engine still allows QB to be way too accurate out of the box....

I also believe it's a combination of the QBA + WR catch...

The Catch Slider has a huge impact on accuracy because it decreases or increases the QB's Radius

Lower WR catch Slider and you'll see more deep balls off target.

Also that chart you posted is very helpful because you can actually take those Completion % for each QB and assign the slider to that exact setting and then use the WR Catch slider to keep those those QB's in line with their true Comp %

The problem is you have to adjust the Slider each game based on the QB your facing

The CPU would utilize the higher end of the slider scale while the Human QB would have to utilize the lower end of the scale and the WR Catch Slider would remain a neutral setting.

I devised a chart a few years ago on All-Pro Level in which it worked really well but not so much for All Madden because the QB's get a ratings boost altering their true accuarcy rating.

For example Drew Brees based on your chart would get a QBA Slider of 69 for the CPU controlling him and the Human player controlling him would be a 31 Slider setting.

Brian Hoyer one of the lower guys listed on that chart would get a Slider setting of 55 for the CPU and for the human player controlling Hoyer the setting would be 17

Now you can see the true difference in ratings based on Hoyer and Brees SLiders setting for both CPU and Human controlled

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I would do the opposite of Playmaker, I believe this year's Madden is the closest to realistic qb play than any other. I would suggest testing from 50/50 All-Pro and playing 5-10 games w/ each qb vs different teams, which is exactly what I'm doing in my 32 team offline CFM, and record the results.
I trust that the tiburon crew did a good job of rendering realistic qb play just after playing preseason and a few reg. Seasons game b4 having to start it over due to autosave bug.

Now IF after testing 50/50 AP and seeing robo qb of yrs past, then I may consider drastic slider changes but not until then.
So far I haven't felt that knee jerk reaction to change gameplay. I could change my mind after more games but not now.

Another thing to test is the player lock feat. And just letting the cpu AI control the qbs and I would lock onto another player(hb, wr, te, etc).
Alot of moving parts to test and just changing sliders around b/c that's what we've done in the past doesn't seem to be the case this year.

I will report back my qb results for each game and see how it aligns w/ these stats. I will have to keep a count on each bad throw as well.
This is another good thread to get a barometer on how close the qbs are playing to what we see irl.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Good ideas guys. I have been working my way down from 50. It appears in my experience so far that errant passes gradually increase the lower you go. You especially see it among backup QB's but not so much among higher tier QB's. I have started to test at 30 now so we'll see how that goes.

I did play a game at 0 as an experiment playing Palmer vs Brees and Palmer completed 53% of his passes having 7 errant passes while Brees only completed 30% throwing alot of ducks throwing 13 errant passes. So if there were one setting I would think its at a lower setting.

By the way, I like your idea playmakers and it could work especially for a 32 team CFM. I will test some games this weekend and see how it goes.

Hey man i want to thank you again for posting this data saves me time to look up the information.

You have just given me a idea that i want to proceed on for Pro Level sliders I created.

I will be creating a QB Chart for Human Players based on the QB they utilize in Madden for their respective teams.

I still believe you can throw ratings out the window for all QB's when a human player controls him and that is why I believe a QB chart would work great on the lower levels Pro and All-Pro

Pass Block and Wr Catch would basically stay the same only the QBA slider would change to add seperation amongst the Human controlled QB when they play against the CPU.

I'm playing on All-Pro and I started at 40 Qb Acc.

However the more I play I keep moving the User Qb Acc lower, I'm at 30 now, I'm just not seeing enough over/under throws from the user. On the other hand the CPU plays pretty realisticly at 40 Acc

Im also playing on all pro with cpu qb accuracy at 35 and user accuracy at 7.

I played using the patriots....23/30 340 yards 2 tds 0 int won 31-3 against titans. Brady made maybe 2 bad throws the entire game.

Played 3 straight games using the rams nick foles was 45 percent against the seahawks 1 int 0 td lost 26-3

He was 20/33 against redskins 271 yards 1 td 1 int won game 23-14.

Lost to steelers 22-17 19/37 268 yards 1 td 1 int

Foles made a LOT more overthrows and underthrows and even some completions were inaccurate where the receiver had to readjust or sometimes even dive.

Brady was on point from start to finish.

I went down to 5 for user but it was ridiculous...toooo many errant throws but 7 for me is the sweet spot.

I agree with you 100%

I'm at 30 on Pro Level started out that way right out the box but between Romo and my backups I don't feel any varience in the type of throws each one makes.....

It's a new year and a new Madden but that doesn't mean EA has changed their skin when it comes to QB Accuarcy and the games engine.

They will always give us a game where the accuarcy becomes too easy as we get used to the game.

But then again you can't develope a game that base don user stick skills when they take control of a player....

That is why I think this year is no different from previous years eventually the slider is going to have to be lowered IMO unless your cranking up the Pass Defense but that still doesn't cause errant, off target throws quite enough.

The way you get that type of gameplay is with a lower QBA or reduce the WR catch Slider but that leads to more dropped passes so the QBA slider is the best way to go.

Now obviously decision making plays a role in the QB's and we have no way of replicating that because we make the decisions on the field as well.

Not a surprise 7 is one of the lowest overall ratings in the game if you cycle through the ratings from the bottom....

You'd be surprise that the game can still function with sliders that low it starts to increase your likley hood of missing a guy that the higher settings simply don't offer

They did a better job for the CPU controlled QB but with the Human player it's still pretty much the same as it's been with every version of Madden.

As long as there is a slider value that works for me its fine whether it be 47 or 7. After qb acc 5 i tried at 10 and the elite qbs very rarely missed.

The sliders become sensitive at theae low numbers for some reason similar to penalty sliders. At 55 there is too many block in the back and at 50 not enough....53 sweet spot

Im just glad the sliders work as a whole this year and deliver an overall authentic experience

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

So I tried my first game with playmakers idea. Vikings vs chargers. I set bridgewater to 36 and rivers to 66 and here are the stats. Bridgewater went 15/25 for 185 yards completing 60% and 3 errant passes. Rivers went 24/39 for 311 yards completing 61% and 2 errant passes.

Some important things to note here I felt rivers was deadly accurate when completing his passes but also threw some check downs in the game when he saw no one open. Also thought Rivers was very aggressive with some throws trying to sqeeze balls into coverage. He was picked twice because of this and that may be why I saw more check downs and more conservative play in the second half. Vikings win 20-15.

More games are needed to test and in the first quarter I was not a fan feeling rivers was deadly accurate and overpowered when passes were completed. I made some adjustments in the game and liked the results.

One thing I am thinking about is scaling down the system where 50 or 60 is the max setting because the game plays so well near default. I am going to test more games on this scale first to get a better sample.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I went back and charted a game I had saved on video using one of my slider sets. I had the CPU at 8 accuracy and user 50. This is All Madden difficulty.

Romo (user) had 5 bad throws ( as defined by the OP)

Barkley (CPU) had 5 too.

The biggest difference was that my guys made fewer deflections. The CPU didn't force it into coverage as much I me. So the cpu's overall comletion percent was higher. He only missed those five throws. Also attempted fewer and took shorter throws. The 5 were deep throws.

That's why I think having CPU accuracy at 30 or at least higher will help because I'm noticing more bad throws because they are going down field more.

I need coverage to be tighter on the user defense too so there are more deflections.

Anyway this thread is great and really helping

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Another thing to consider is where the bad throws happen. Unless a QB is getting hit if a guy only throws 10 yards and under there shouldn't be too many if any bad throws with most starting QB's. The bad ones should happen mostly on deep passes and medium throws. The game can't force the user to make those harder throws.

Just something to consider.

Have to agree. I tested some backups because some starters were injured testing at 30 and had a few throw 7 or 8 balls over the head of the receiver or it sailed out of bounds. Also saw trying to throw into tight space and a couple were just out of reach of the receiver. The problem is getting some of these throws from your top tier QB's. I haven't had success as of yet.

I have to disagree on this my friend. In real games we see overthrows on slant. Drags and even 5 n outs. Qb throwing without Being rush. Overthrows happens every time on every possible way. What I have to see is that good qb should happen less frequent than bad qb. But overthrows still happens. Even on drags with both feet set.

This is just a horrible game dalton had. Of course this should not be everyday game but what I want to show how common are these overthrows. Specially with mediocre qb. Even without being rush he still misses some drags and " easy" passes. Dalton on the game has acc over 80 I believe.

It may be a small sample size, but I lower User Qb Acc from 38 to 7 in the CFM menu. I go to play as the Chargers vs Lions and Philip Rivers was pin point accurate, I went something like 11/15 in the first half, literally every pass was on the money. So I exit out and go to the main menu, set the sliders, import them into the same CFM and there was a clear cut difference in Rivers accuracy.

Lol. I said good QB's. JK I'm all for the overthrow/under throws. The ratings are EA's so they are higher than they should be.

His confidence was really low that game I guess. Lol

Also from watching a lot of college ball yesterday most bad throws were over 15 yards from the line of scrimmage.

If a QB did what he did that game all the time he wouldn't be starting long. Lol

I did see one QB overthrow like 3 WR screens though. His Short accuracy must have like 40. Lol

It was the North Carolina QB.

Anyway. These numbers will help us a bunch.

Another thing to think about is that we are using EA's ratings. I'm not sure how accurate they have the three accuracy ratings.

I'm interested to see how FBG ratings do.

I know one thing this info will make me keep up with the bad throws numbers much more when I watch FB and test my sliders

game 5 of my Rams "play now" season... using hum qb acc at 7 and cpu qb acc at 35

St. Louis @ Green Bay...lost the game 31-16. had 3 redzone possessions in the 1st half and just FGs. Record now 2-3

Foles was 21/41 210 yards, 1 Td, 1 int I counted 9 total errant throws

Aaron Rodgers 17/26 287 yards 2 Td 1 int I counted 3 total errant throws

in 5 games foles has these stats

VS seahawks , 14/31 (45 percent) 195 yards , 0 td 1 int (L 26-3)
@ the redskins, 20/33 (61 percent), 271 yards 1 td , 1 int ( W 23-14)
VS steelers 19/37 (51 percent) 268 yards 1 td 1 int ( L, 22-17)
@ cardinals 26/39 (66 percent) 255 yards 3 td, 3 int ( W 24-22)
@ the packers 21/41 (51 percent) 210 yards, 1 Td, 1 int ( L 31-16)

Season stats: 100/181 ( 55 percent) 1199 yards (239.8 ypg) 6 TD, 7 int

one clunker against seahawks and the rest were kinda average games...

redskins game was his best. Interception came at a hail mary at the half.

Averaging 6-7 errant throws per game. Overall having a subpar season. Next game vs the browns, a low rated team, but a pretty damn good secondary with CBs Haden and Wlliams and safeties Whitner and Gipson. All 4 players rated 84 and above.

GAME 6 VS BROWNS 34-27 W

FOLES 26/39 313 yards 2 TD, 3 INT, had 5 errant throws one was over the TE's head and right into safety Gipson for browns. Haden and Whitner had the other INTs. all 89 rated and above.

completed one long pass against their nickel back...haden and their safeties had my receivers pretty shut down. of the 26 receptions, only 10 went to my WRs.

TEs went off in this game for the rams...kendricks 5 catches for 78 yards, 4 catches for 99 yards, had a 69 yarder on a one on one with lower speed safety.

Also had my best running game with Mason breaking 130 yards on 27 carries.

MCCOWN was 21/39 350 yards 1 TD, 3 INT (one pick six) he had 10 errant throws.

There is a definite difference between the cpu QBs. well...these stats have made the point so no more stats from me, don't wanna turn it into a dynasty page.

Played Redskins vs Giants at 20. Griffin was injured early so it was Cousins vs Manning. Cousins 15/30 for 219 yards 50% and 5 errant throws. Manning 22/36 305 yards 61% and 6 errant throws. There was a good mixture of routes with errant throws such as post, corner, streak, and a fade in the endzone. The majority were 15 yards or more but very promising for small sample size.

To update you all. I have been testing the accuracy slider at 20 and WR catching at 47 with Armor and Sword's slider set and I have been getting some really good games. I am seeing good QB's throw an average of 4-6 errant throws and lower level Qb's throw 6-8 errant throws. Passes are on a variety of routes and had some short throws land in front of receivers on swing passes, slants, and underneath routes for the user and CPU.

The key is to get defensive pressure and coverage the way you want it. As these are factors that play into how well the QB will throw it. Unfortunately, passing percentages are not exactly where I want them. I have raised WR catching to 50 to try and improve those percentages. Also considering tweaking pass blocking as well but I am hoping I won't need to do that since the pressure is working great.

Here are my game results:

Cutler 23/37 227 yards 62% 5 errant throws
Wilson 20/28 369 yards 71% 4 errant throws

Dalton 24/40 263 yards 60% 6 errant throws
Flacco 22/37 238 yards 59% 5 errant throws

Savage 25/43 315 yards 58% 8 errant throws
Winston 23/34 312 yards 67% 4 errant throws

Newton 23/35 340 yards 65% 4 errant throws
Brees 12/20 236 yards 60% 5 errant throws

A few things I considered here for Cam Newton is that I ran the ball well and that opened the play action up to get some good completions. Brees' stats would have been slightly better had he not been injured in the final 2:00 plus the Saints ran the ball more frequently than I expected.

I got torched by Wilson and Cutler played as expected. 1 or 2 incomplete passes from Wilson and he would have been right on target with stats. Dalton and Flacco's game was a defensive battle the entire game and both struggled. Savage to me was right on target but the problem with Winston is I think he was over rated in the initial roster so hopefully EA changes that. Either way, QB's will have good and bad games depending on what plays out.

Been monitoring this thread thanks for the information....

I was already at 30 QBA prior to this thread being created started testing it at both 20 and 10 QBA the past few days.

I've only done this for the Human player since I feel CPU at default 50 at least on Pro level shows a very realistic amount of errant throws even without being pressured at times.

For the Human player I feel the WR Catch slider is so powerful it decreases the amount of errant throws based on it's setting regardless of where you set QBA...

For example with QBA at 10 and WR Catch at 50 I still saw pin point accuracy by the QB.

With QBA at 20 and WR Catch at 45 i got entirely different results despite playing with a higher QBA setting....

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I played a game last night, Bears vs Packers, Cutler vs Rodgers, obviously, I was Rodgers.

Here's what I noticed with All-Pro with Josh C's sliders, advantage going to CPU.

Rodgers has very good accuracy, it's the WR/DB interactions and throwing into traffic that had him at 58% passing. My fault for throwing into traffic, QB slider at 50.

Cutler became injured in the first quarter and left the game 6 of 10, with a few throws off target.

Clausen came in for the rest of the game and hit 50% of his passes with 2 int's. His throws were over, under and the new WR/DB animations caused incompletions. This was with the CPU QB AI at 60.

In years past, Clausen would have came in and would have been butter at around 70 or 80%

So, one game sample size with the tuner, I will continue to test at these numbers and see if I need to go up or down.

At this time, I'd say no, but it was only 1 game after the tuner.

My experience is that the cpu is deadly accurate at 50 with very little errant throws which is why I kept lowering accuracy because I kept seeing a progression of errant throws on all pro.

I also played a few games today with user at 30 and cpu at 50 to see if I could replicate what you were seeing. Also lowered wr to 45 and I was getting good percentages just not as many errant throws. Maybe its different on pro or a combination of sliders.

I do think I will try accuracy at 30 and 25 and lower wr to 45 and see what results I can get. Not sure I will go any lower than 45 for wr.

Yeah Pro Level renders different QBA results....

At default 50 they miss fire pretty realistic and very seldom go into ROBO QB mode.

In fact IMO on Pro level you could even possibly get away with QBA at 60 for CPU and still see comp % around 50-60% on the norm.

So far what's been a good setting for the cpu accuracy slider on all pro ?

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Depends on your sliders but I am working on adjustments with WR catch and QB accuracy to fine tune statistics. I am testing 20 and 25 for QB and 45-50 for WR. The rest are Armor and Sword's sliders. I think the user slider will be the biggest adjustment and won't know fully until I have played a season to assess my stats.

I been using 27 for qb and 46 for wr.

Will test 46 later this evening.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I'm pretty sure the qb accuracy slider doesn't really affect throws. It affects the qb awareness to attempt certain throws

GrayDawg 09-09-2015 10:31 AM

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Certainly awareness is part of it but I wouldn't say all of it. Accuracy also is affected. Either way, you clearly see a difference in errant throws as you move the slider down. Played a game against Brees on 0 and his errant passes were off the chart and could only pass for 30%.
