Utah State has just announced the hiring of Ted Petersen, a former high school head coach.

Petersen, 34, had coached the Central Nevada High Mountaineers to three state championships. In addition to that, he has many connections along the West Coast. Many amongst the college football world figured that he would get a call from a team at some point.

"I'd like to thank the entire Utah State athletic department," said Petersen at his introductory press conference. "It's not every day you get a chance like this, so I'm going to make the most of it."

At Central Nevada High, he ran a wide-open, fast-paced, Air Raid-like offense that he will likely employ here.

According to the Utah State Athletic Department, Petersen's contract is for 4 years and and unspecified amount of money.

Utah State blows 13-point lead, loses to Utah on red-zone interception

Through the first half, it seemed that Utah State was on its way to an opening day upset of Utah, outgaining the Utes by nearly 200 yards, and holding them to zero points.

However, the Aggies fell apart in the second half, allowing 17 points and Utah to take the lead.

While the defense was no help, the loss can be blamed on redshirt senior quarterback, Chuckie Keeton.

Despite throwing for 369 yards and completing 68% of his passes. Chuckie Keeton struggled today, throwing three interceptions and taking five sacks.

Trailing 17-13 with 3:43 remaining and facing fourth down in the red zone, Keeton tried to scramble, but was sacked, giving Utah the ball back.

Utah State would get one more shot with 1:30 left, driving 60 yards to the Utah 23. Keeton would waste the opportunity, by making a terrible read and throwing a game-ending pick.

"He needs to improve." said head coach Matt Wells when asked about Keeton. "He made some good plays, but he also made some really terrible mistakes. I know it's a new system for him, but 3 interceptions is unacceptable.
