So is it worth the purchase?

Is 16 worth the purchase? I am largely an online player and mostly like to play EASHL with a buddy. We took last year off since they didn't have EASHL and this would be my first NHL game on current gen consoles. We're trying to figure out if it is worth the buy or if there are glaring holes with the game that will just frustrate us

Nope...the last tuner they put out has destroyed the offline game...if you play online, I guess get it.

I don't feel it is. I had high hopes when I played the Beta back in August, but since then it's got a LOT more of an NHL 15 feel to it, game-play wise. You still can't control your skater very well. Cross-creasers are better defended, but trash still goes in the net all the time. Once again, it is NOT skill-based like it should be.

Your online so youll probably love it but read the current threads for more info as Im offline and I would still get it as I have great hopes EA can make both sides happy and give off liners the option to have the game as it was before the 9/28 tuners .
Finally Roster share in NHL 22 ! Dreams do come true ! To Garryowen and Glory boys !

A recent tuner jacked up the offline experience. The game before the tuner played very well and while not perfect, EA was the closest they ever have been to giving us a solid NHL experience. In short the tuner made it more arcade like. That said I do believe they will try and fix it and hope they do it soon.

I don't have the game yet. Can't you just delete the tuner for offline play? Then would it be worth the purchase?

I got it, and while it is better that 15 in some areas....it is worse in others....overall if you like 15, then you will enjoy this one. If you did not like 15, I would say think twice about it...maybe wait till you can get it for $25-30.

This is my first NHL title since 13. I love it. Totally hooked and cranking in my Panthers franchise.

I would assume this is an option? I know you can in madden and I don't see why you wouldn't be able to in NHL

Re: So is it worth the purchase?

Not an option. I can't stand playing the ai since the tuner on the 30th. It was one of, if not, the best hockey experience I have ever had on a console. Now, it is back to same old one sided AI and scripted gameplay.

There is no option unfortunately. When they released tuner updates in the old gen versions of the game, can't speak on NHL 15, but you could cycle through them and choose the one you wanted to use.

Now, there has been 2, 3 or 4 tuner updates however, when you go to Tuners in the option menu, only tuner, 1.00 is available. Whereas in NHL 14, I have tuners, 1.00, 1.01, 1.02, etc to choose from.

Not sure why they chose to overwrite tuners this gen. But, ruined my offline gameplay. Can't stand it.

But, EASHL plays better in my opinion. That is why as someone mentioned earlier, we need offline and online tuners and not overwrite the current.

Just never ever go into any online mode in the main menu and you will not get the tuner DL to your system.

Fortunately I still have the pre 10/30 tuner and it is an amazingly fun game. But then again I thought it was out of the box as well.

But aren't there no penalties without the tuner?

Like I said I have the pre 9/28 tuner and I have plenty of penalties and a nice variety. My games have been amazing.

So I am lucky I never went and DL the latest tuner according to tons of impressions and posts here.

I am staying away from any new tuner till I read otherwise.

However I can't attest to the game without any tuner.....I picked it up a week before the tuner I have was dropped.

EASHL is the best it's ever been.

If that's the mode you want to play, then NHL 16 is totally worth buying.

I've already put in about 40 games of EASHL and I'm showing no signs of slowing down. The gameplay is balanced really well in that mode.

The offline modes are a whole 'nother story, though. I do not recommend this game at all if you plan on playing the offline modes seriously.

After being burned last year, I decided to eff madden, Fifa, and nhl this year. Toys r us had a deal to save $50 and free ship off 2 ea games. They didn't have Fifa so I bought nfl and nhl. It came 2 days later. Before I totally give in, would you really open it? Return? Or play it and if I hate it, take it to gamestop for $30 each and treat them as a rent? I've read numerous threads and I value all your opinions. I really love football and hockey, but I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from last year
