M16 Worst Madden to date

I've been playing Madden for literally 25 years. I've seen every new gimmick added and removed from the game over that time. I've never formally complained to a community about the gameplay but I've never been this upset about it before either. But this year has to be the worst I've seen. This is my first experience with Madden next gen. I waited believing that any bugs on next gen might be worked out after a couple years. I was wrong.


My first gripe is with the way the players feel. It feels like they are ice skating on the field. It feels like I have little to no control over the players at times. Especially the RB and QB. I know people have complained about this in past Maddens but it really felt like they had this fixed on last gen. I've never noticed it being worse than it is now.


Second, the line blocking is laughable. Now I use the Chiefs and I know they don't have the best O-line around. But they CAN run block and their pass blocking has greatly improved. I continually see my lineman try to go block no one and leave three players in the back field to tackle me. this happens on both runs and passes. On many occasions I notice small CB's literally toss aside a 6'-5" 300lb + LT out of the way like he was a child and sack my QB. Running the ball has become non existent for me this year.


Third, What the hell is up with this new catching animation? Every game you have like 30 one handed spectacular catches. What the hell!!???!!! It's so unrealistic. And literally every deep through becomes a one handed Odell Beckham highlight reel. It's so stupid. But when it comes to the animation the game is broke, players get stuck in animations all the time which results in lost yards or just running out of bounds.


This is just a few of my top complaints. There are plenty more that make the game unplayable IMO. The gameplay feels like it's taken ten steps backward. I wasn't expecting much from Madden this year and almost didn't buy it but I didn't expect it to be this bad.


So, I'll never buy a new version of Madden again. I'll buy used if at all, just to make sure EA doesn't get my money. The only hope I can see for a decent game in the future is for a company to make a PC football game with open source coding and little to no encryption that allows the community to modify it and add real teams and players. All the company needs to do is make sure graphics are good and gameplay is real feeling and authentic. Games like Skyrim and GTA allow for the community to mod the hell out of them and practically turn them into different games. If a company made a football game like that we might have a chance. But it will be up to the community.

Are you sure you are playing M16? This is by far the best Madden. The game is not perfect, but it is a video game. Major strides have been made in gameplay. It seems to me you just want to complain to complain. That is your right but I cannot say I agree with any of your complaints. I have played a lot of games with M16 and only see one or two one handed receptions a game. Some games I will play with none. The offensive line play, while not perfect is far better than it ever has been. I have never witnessed a DB knock a OL out of the way. The running game is solid for both the human and CPU.

I have never noticed a player "Stuck" in an animation which causes something bad to happen. That is unless I try to make a spin move and get hit before the move is complete. That is not the game's fault, that is my fault.

In any case, the majority of people here believe M16 is a major step forward. Are there things that could be improved or added? Certainly. But this is the most playable Madden ever, imo.

While I agree that this is one of the best Madden's I also take a step back and constantly wonder how many major strides have to be taken over a 25 year period. Rules may have changes, but the game of football itself has stayed pretty static. Oline and Dline interaction has been a staple of football for years. So I have to admit, its pretty frustrating when major strides have been taken after 25 years, and a lot of them regarding things that were issues as of 15 years ago. Shouldn't the major strides be over by now?

It feels like I have little to no control over the players at times. Especially the RB and QB.
Ease up on the controller a bit when running and don't use turbo until you are in the clear. There is a way to control the drop back as well, but I forgot. I'm sure you can find on YT.

DB's are fast as hell, plus agile and elusive. You just gotta be aware of what the D is doing and slide protect or be ready to get the ball out quick. I see DB's rock a QB out of nowhere every week in the NFL, they will overload your oline. I agree the blocking can be really bad at times, but there are ways around it.

I've never seen more than 1 or 2 in a game, and I only play H2H. Receivers usually go up for it with 2 hands in my experience.

I agree with you, that some of these issues should have been fixed long ago. However, keep in mind that the crew developing the game has changed overtime. Prior to the current group, there did not seem to be a desire to improve the game. The current designers seem much more willing to improve the game and listen to the community. So many of the problems are because of the long standing coding issues within the game. I truly believe some of the issues will not be fixed unless they go back and rewrite some of or all of the old coding.

Most long standing franchises go through ups and downs. I am frustrated with certain aspects of the game, but I try to take the game for what it is and I just have to say this is the best football game made to this point. I look forward to the future.

I just went current gen and am surprised at how good the gameplay is.I was always waiting for 2k to come out with another football game but must say that this version plays a lot like what I would expect from them.I would say the OP isn't using a good slider set if he can't find a good running game.

I like where the gameplay is and wouldn't want them tinkering too much with where its at but the franchise mode needs worked on.32 team control makes it reasonable to deal with but it was a big reason I stuck with '12 on last gen for so long.

I couldn't imagine having a more different take than yours...

I've used KC a lot, and you can do some good stuff in the run game, particularly on power and toss plays because you have some mobile guards.

But if you're getting hit in the passing game, you're probably holding the ball too long. Neither OT is elite, so I don't think you should have all day to throw. A classic Walsh-tree WCO would have the ball out very quickly on most plays. You might try utilizing the staple routes of that system more to minimize the rush.

If you're having trouble defending the pass, use the "play receiver" button this year. It's a great tool for attacking the catch process rather than the ball, and you can generate a few incompletions a game by getting better at manual pass defense.

Lol@ worst Madden to date.... I have play a ton of 16 and I don't see a ton of one handed catches in games.

And with the adjustments the dev team has done and listened to fans its just made 16 better this is first Madden I've played that I haven't had to adjust one slider and now that they made the penatly sliders work just adds another piece to puzzle that was missing.

Yea this game still has issues but what game dosent??..and like others have said if u use the things in the game like line adjustments and things they added in u shouldn't have any issues.

I consider myself one of the more disappointed and skeptical individuals when it comes to this Madden, the dev team, and how they chose to prioritize certain aspects of the game (see DC vs CFM), but to say that '16 is the worst Madden to date simply is not accurate.

I've also been playing this game for 25 years and I'd have to say that this is the best Madden I've ever played, strictly from a gameplay standpoint.
