Not to burst your bubble, but 2000 people signing a petition isn't going to change their mind. 2M maybe.

Yep, Traded NHL 16. Because its just the same old thing to me. I have always liked 2k hockey more, absolutely played 2k6 to death ages ago, (PS2 and Xbox360). I loved 2k because, the game looked and felt like hockey and more importantly, it was fun to play. I have felt like EA has the skill stick but sadly, had to adjust the entire game to fit the gimmick. So you don't have a team based game but more of a whoever you control is your skill. (if that makes sense). I love how they captured the organic nature of the sport, and would love to see a modern, non-licensed, fully customized, game of hockey. (preferably on the pc). Create an amazing hockey engine, and let the fans take it on. We are seeing such success with games where you let the user go do whatever so why not just go down that route. Hell even if it was 2d, Id buy it.

If I won the Powerball the first thing I'd do is pay 2K to make a new NHL and MLB game.
Sadly, I don't think that's ever going to happen again.

The industry has shown that it can basically only support 1 sports game per genre.
If it weren't for EA's stubbornness Live would be dead already.
And who knows how long Konami will hold on with PES.

Put it on Steam early access.
It worked great for Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa, they basically build the SIM from nothing.

And now very succesful on pc, aiming for console market in 2016.

I will buy several copies myself

If it can only support one game, who says it has to be EA? EA is mailing in their next gen releases and are ripe for the picking IMO.

                I agree.
But I think the majority of those who purchase the EA NHL game don't know much about hockey and simply purchase it based on EA's rep.

In their heyday, the NHL2K line broke even in sales with EA's despite the fact that it was a better product and were selling for $19.99.

The EA brand is a powerful one. Whoever decides to take on Goliath better come with a big freakin sword.

There would have to be some kind of strong promotional or contest attached.... something like free tix to a game or a chance to win season tix or something. Maybe an editor.... though the run of the mill player probably doesnt care about an editor.

Maybe they could devise a contest where someone could win $1 million dollars! They could also use a supermodel with big kahunas to do some promos on TV.

Last I checked, kahunas were nuts. So count me out!

I'd love for 2k to come back, but I think the future of deep sports games (not text-based) lies, well, in the future—when the capacity of hobbyists/indie developers to create a technologically passable sports game is possible.

Think of a hockey game as advanced in terms of physics and animation/graphics as 2k or EA NHL on PS3/360, but that is essentially completely customizable. More or less a hockey sandbox/toolkit with which it is easy to import databases and art, and has the ability to place your custom leagues into a mode similar to GM mode, or more closely resembling EHM's career mode.

I'm curious to see if gameplay-based sports sims ever become a thing. Rocket League is on the high end of indie game budget scene, but it's a great example of creating a game out of various third party proprietary techs and in-house design. I wonder what someone might be able to do in UE4 with hockey, for instance.

To beat Goliath you don't need a big sword. You need a common garden variety stone...but a big heart and smarts is essential.

What Rocket League does well is ai. I played Snow last night with a puck instead of a ball and apart from the ability to carry a stick and deke it was has so much hockey about it.

I think they'd need to hitch their wagon to a very big name.
While Crosby's stock has gone down a touch over the past season-and-a-half, he's still easily the most recognizable NHL name across the globe.

Just name it Sidney Crosby 2K17 and away you go.
Parents and kids won't know much about brands, reviews, etc, but if they see Crosby on the cover, chances are they'll buy it.
