Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
Now that we have a managerial changes thread, here's my thought on Rafa.
I think he wasn't a great fit at all from the start and this season just proved that. Perez is ruining that team with his constant tinkering and desire to sign Galacticos. They may sell jerseys but the chemistry is another thing. I liked the Kroos signing, but was James really necessary? Still on the fence with Bale, but was losing Ozil worth it? |
Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
Rafa was never a good fit from the very beginning. If Carlo got the sack despite everybody loving and respecting him, Rafa was never going to last coming in as likely not very well respected.
As for Perez, you have to remember RM have done this since far longer than Perez has been president. Zidane is their 19th manager in 20 years. They also happen to have the misfortune of having some of their better squads during a period where Barcelona have fielded some of the best teams in the history of the game. The hire and fire stuff has sort of worked out for them, similar to Chelsea only slightly less successful. Without such a strong Barca I think RM would be steamrolling that league. Even a lot of the Galacticos have largely worked out. Dima was great, and definitely helped them get that CL trophy, but he was super inconsistent and they swapped him for James who has been absolutely phenomenal. James is legit one of the best players on their team. If any signing hasn't panned out it's Kroos, but only because they refuse to field an actual DM. Bale has been one of their best players for the better part of a year now. Letting Ozil go looks bad right now because RM are struggling, but he didn't fit Carlo's system and they obviously did fine without him for a while. Madrid is basically a higher tier Chelsea. It's a club run by a billionaire, who is a legitimate fan of the club, but that is also the root of a lot of their problems. Anyway, I'm very curious to see how Zizou does. |

Didn't Rafa win like 18 out of 25 matches for Real?

Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
He did, but when you are Real Madrid 18/25 games won isn't good enough. Especially when you are losing to basically every decent team you come across. 4-0 at the Bernabau with Messi not even on the field is pretty yikes.

They need to just go ahead and get Jose. He's the only one who can really compete with Barca BUT it won't be pretty which unfortunately is the #1 MO for Real. Until they buy a deep holding MF like they lost on Xabi they will be getting dominated by Barca. As good as James is, and he's really good minus the injuries, their MF just gets overrun since Kroos isn't great defensively, neither is Modric. Cassemeiro should have started the Classico in a 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-3 hybrid but Rafa felt the need to include every good attacking player they have in the lineup and they just got hammered in the MF by Busquests, Rakitic, and Iniesta. Even going out and buying a good young player in Kovacic made zero sense when you already have James, Isco, and Kroos who can all play that position. |
