#MTTalk - How to improve My Team

This mode can be the biggest mode(and money maker) in 2k if done right. Hopefully the guys that get to talk to the devs give them some good feedback. Here's what they need to do to:

    1) Make rewards from RTTP repeatable: Once you beat the first seed there is literally nothing else to play for. Give us a pack each time we beat a seed, add leaderboards so that we can keep track of our records. The mode will only survive if people are PLAYING it....but they need something to continuously PLAY. Otherwise MT would just be a mode where you pay to collect cards.

    2) More frequent Dynamic Ratings updates: 2K has found gold here but yet again they are not taking full advantage of it. DR provides a special stock market type element that allows gamers to truly invest and work the market.....but the updates need to be at least twice a week. People would play My Team for the investing element alone but the updates aren't frequent enough.

    3) Add more realistic content: None of this fake diamond tbt card crap. There is no way a Luis Scola card should EVER be even close to a HAKEEM card. It's just plain stupid and it devalues and disrespects legends. Release cards of new cards should be at least 3 times per week. TBT, FBF, and weekly moments cards.

Hopefully the devs see this thread. Please leave any suggestions you have.
    Lineup:
    PG) Gary Payton
    SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
    SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
    PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
    C) Hakeem Olajuwon

I agree with all three suggestions, especially number 3. Dynamic Ratings should at LEAST be updated once a week. The NBA recognizes players with weekly awards for their stretch of performances so this should trickle down into the game.

Re: #MTTalk - How to improve My Team

I have a lot, and the easy answer is to do some darn work!

EVERY collection should have some reward. That's what made things fun. This year what is the point of collecting all the DR cards or all of the ROTY or DPOYs?

The rewards should be UNIQUE. There really isnt any point in going for Diamond Jordan, all the others will be release by the time you get him, plus there will be other versions similar to the Diamond. If you wanna do Jordan, there should only be 2 Diamonds. One for Pack Pullers and one for Grinders. Like the reward one could be a Playoffs/Finals edition.

Fix Historic Players playbooks and badges. Also, they really need to go back and re-work the player models and attributes for some. Ralph Sampson isnt really the athletic 7'4" freak in game as IRL. Ray Allen and Joe Dumars are too slow, Penny Hardaway should be a lil faster/quicker as well. These are just a few examples...but there are more.

Stop trying to rip people off with packs. IF you are going to put Current cards in DR pack then DR cards should have the highest chance of being pulled not the other way around. How is it you advertise "with the highest chance of a Dynamic card" when everyone's Current to DR pull ratio is AT LEAST 3x1?

If you arent going to release more Moments cards then remove the packs and give us another pack. If you are going to keep the packs then get moving on the new Moments cards.

MT is largely made up of online PvP matches. Being that this is the case, a lot of tweaking needs to be done to the A.I. to make the matches less cheap. Tone down slider rigging and comebacking engines.

A gang of technical issues with gameplay, options, and AH need to be addressed.

A diligent approach to expansion is necessary. Most people are bored and it isnt even AS break yet. New Gauntlet boards, new collections such as jerseys, better sneaker selection for other brands besides Nike.

Personally, I'd like to see Moments versions of some guys who showed glimpses of greatness but couldnt sustain the longevity....like Grant Hill/Penny Hardaway (maybe based off Playoff series). Also T-Mac since he doesnt have an Amethyst card in the game......he actually should have a Diamond IMO.

More creative packs/collections....I'd like to see an MVP Runner UP collection. You could get versions of West, Baylor, Drexler, Gervin, Nique, etc....

The biggest way to improve MT is simple though.....listen to the gamers. If they dont listen and hear us, then its a moot point.

This is my big one. Last year most of my players that i used came from collection rewards. I loved the 99 Ovr Dr J and 99 Ovr Hakeem. And its not like everyone had those cards either. I think it would be harder this year, bc cards prices are way higher this year it seems

They should just play the game themselves and follow this forum.

yeah, and now that they have patched MT account-to-account farming to a degree....they could bring back MT rewards. I prefer players, but something is better than nothing. it was pretty cool when they added the player rewards after I had completed all the collections, that day I just looked in my rewards and there were several sapphire players.

Re: #MTTalk - How to improve My Team

It's easier to earn mt this year due to DR cards and low supply of quality players. Prime example would be Roty mj. I bought 5 of them for 30k a while back. Now he goes well over 70k now. And let's not get started on the DR cards lol. We can all agree 2k is not providing us with enough content and is robbing us with their pack odds (stopped buying packs a month ago).

2k is letting us down with bs diamond cards and don't let me get started on the recent patch which allows 3pts to be higher percentage shots than close to the basket attempts (exaggerating, but you guys catch my drift lol)

But keep the suggestions coming, hopefully they read it and learn from their mistakes.

Re: #MTTalk - How to improve My Team

I purchased most DR cards for cheap early on and I am close to finishing most of them. I would be stoked if 2k added rewards for these. I could finish all of them in a day. Also, they could change the ball rewards to players as well, and this is something I think they really should do. Those who have all the balls could get players as well.

I mean really, this is one of the biggest issues when you think about it. Look at all the jerseys and things you have to collect. Look at all the free agent collections. I think they planned to have rewards and they just got slack.

Re: #MTTalk - How to improve My Team

A lot of your suggestions are bang on.

Another thing, collecting jerseys, arenas, and logos this year has become obsolete because everybody creates their own branding. The only reason to collect those team cards is to build card count, and there aren't even any individual rewards for doing so. And because 2700 cards for MJ is basically unattainable, why bother?

Also a big problem this year is the price of cards in the market. Bronze players sell for 1k each, silvers 1.5k, gold 2k, then amethysts are anywhere from 50k-500k, diamonds over 1mil. There are a few silver that go for 5k and a few golds that go for 20k, but generally, the majority of the cards have next to no value. One possible way to counter this is to create a MyTeam card store. Perhaps there can be a way to buy single items, player cards, badges, shoes, etc, in addition packs and the auction house. If the next game were to come out and all of the current edition and historic edition cards were available in a store at a fixed price it could really help control the market. Then things like Dynamic, ROTY, DPOY, and TBT cards could be auction only. Also people could sell their duplicate regular cards in auction too, for less than the store price, giving people a bargain from buying all their cards in the store.

Another suggestion, which I think is very important and has been mentioned on other areas of this forum.. get rid of the 1 silver, 3 gold, and unrestricted requirements! Make all the games have team overall requirements. Qualify and seed 8 max 70 overall, seed 7 + 6 is 75 overall, 5 and 4 is 80 overall, 3 and 2 is 85 overall, and seed 1 is 90 overall. That, or something similar, or a completely new structure to RTTP. Regardless, with what we see now is everybody using the exact same cards, the highest rated silvers like Tyson Chandler and Rudy Gobert, the top golds like Westbrook, Paul George, and Kawhi.. By making team overall requirements instead of colour restrictions it will allow for a lot more creativity and mixing of players to create more unique and personalized rosters. Honestly, the bronze, silver, gold, amethyst, and diamond colours can all be completely scrapped and taken out of the game. Just make all cards ordered by overall.

There should be more focus on both offline and online challenges and more juicy rewards for doing them to help build a team. Currently the core of MT is beating domination mode to help build a team and then competing in RTTP.

The domination mode gets very repetitive because in order to get the points for completion it takes a very robotic play style. Every half court offensive possession I either call for a pick and pop and hit the midrange jumpshot for the assist, or I go to the post and do a post fade as quickly as I can do get the assists and keep the shot clock from running low. Unless I get a defensive stop and fast break dunk, every play is basically the same to try and maximize MT point efficiency. It is really cool being able to play all the historic teams but because the play style is so repetitive it loses its novelty. Any time I play loose and don't pay attention to my scripted, robotic plays, I don't get nearly enough points.

RTTP needs a lot of work. Like mentioned above, some standings and leaderboards would be cool. Also, let us play whichever seeds best suit our team. Lets say there is a seed with a 80 overall requirement.. What if we havent been able to afford any 90 or 95+ rated players? And our team fits perfectly is the 75-80 overall class. Let us compete in the 80 overall seed over and over again so that maybe we can be ranked the best 80 max overall team on ps4, etc. Just an idea.

The challenges that require 8+ players from a single team are a big pain. I have to go on the auction house and spend upwards of 20-30k MT points, sometimes more (the warriors challenge I spent 200k for steph curry just for the challenge then sold him after I was done)... Putting out all this for a team to play in a challenge that gives very poor rewards. There needs to be more incentive of playing challenges. Maybe some cards like the ROTY or DPOY cards can only be attainable by beating challenges? Instead of being able to buy everything in a pack, maybe some packs should only be available to those who play a lot of the game?

Looking forward to seeing the MT mode get improved because I think it has potential to be phenomenal. Already it is truly amazing being able to make a team of all my favourite players across different decades and compete online and in challenges with them. However, there is a lot of work that can be done to improve. It is far from perfect.

I'm probably the oddball here, but I say scrap the DR cards. The majority of the players don't get better. Just have moments cards and release 3-7 every week.

I just want attainable rewards cards with great players so if you can't spend hours playing the auction house you still can play with some of your favorite players that you earn. It's just disgusting to see 100,000 Mt auction house prices and know that you will not be able to get the player ever. That is not fun to me. I thought they were on the right track with sapphire players last year. My issue with that is some collections are impossible to complete without a ton of Mt like the Warriors or cavaliers. Let us play our game and unlock more and more rewarding players over and over from day one. Grinding and working shouldn't be words used to describe a gaming experience. Fun, fair and amazing is what I would be after.

I own a business and some heads would roll if my people released a product like they're doing this year. Changes in personnel can stimulate huge results very quickly. I'm not buying next year. I just don't trust them to deliver. It makes me sad to say that. I have spent a lot in vc and played a lot but it's just not worth it now. Never again will I spend 1 dollar in vc.

Many of these issues all be fixed simply by making the mode DEEPER.

Right now most cards have no value because there is no use for them.

There is no 'middle' to this mode. In RTTP you literally go from an NBDL roster of 12 Bronze and 1 Silver to a "Big 3" of 3 Gold and 9 Bronze/Silver to a SUPER-team of unrestricted.

I like the addition of the Online Challenges, but they need to set a Reward for those and then allow players to win it every time they play it. Otherwise, there is little reason to play them more than ONCE...unless you're a nerd like me who like building teams with RESTRICTIONS.

I hope they listen to the right segment of the community though...because some of the ideas I see will only make the mode WORSE.

Lots of complaints from people about not being able to have unfettered access to the BEST of the BEST cards/players. That's the way it needs to be, otherwise you wind up with everyone having every card. And then you wind up playing a endless string of games against the same lineup over and over...and over...and over.

Unless, of course, they actually add some depth in the form of tiers and restrictions to the mode. Then it becomes more about building a lineup instead of just stockpiling the 13 best players of all time.

It's a dilemma. If you make it too easy, in terms of time or skill level, to attain the top, say, 5-10% of players, then the specialness of those players is eroded. We all want players like Curry, LeBron, and AD. So do all NBA teams in real life. The fact that not every NBA team can have a generational talent is what makes them special/great. The game needs some mechanic to preserve scarcity. It was a kind of lame, last year, that everyone had LBJ and the only question was whether one played him at 3 or 4 or cheesed with him at 1.

Another way to allow players to get elite cards would be through skill: beating really hard Challenges. Aside from the issue of the inevitability that a lot of players would then complain about how hard it is to complete the Challenge, the real problem is that people would use multiple accounts to farm these cards, and the result would be a devaluation of them. Of course, 2K could make them un-sellable. Maybe they could do more, but 2K has implemented this with Road to the Finals/Championships and there are some high-end cards to be had that way: Bucks Kareem and Wade are both Amethysts. In Domination, there's Amethyst Kidd and Pippen. In Gauntlet, there's Amethyst Cousy and Drexler. In RttP, there's Amethyst Ewing and Mullin. That's 8 Amethysts (and a slew of very good Golds) attainable just through gameplay.

Of course, it's not just skill at gameplay to get those, but also grinding with skilled gameplay. But, again, that's just to try to preserve some scarcity to these cards. Even as it is, half of these cards will end up being totally common.

I get what you're saying here and I agree with your general sentiment. But if you were running 2K, you would probably be pretty happy with the sales figures and reviews, particularly relative to the competition, which is practically nonexistent. By all accounts, 2K seems to be doing very well with NBA 2K.

I'm still dismayed and kind of shocked at how sloppy they are with stuff like badges on historic players, but I still really enjoy the game. There are many things I wish would change, but I will give them credit for generally improving year-to-year. The pluses of the game are more than enough to outweigh the minuses, for me.

Still, this is what I'd like to see, some of which is repeating prior suggestions:

                            1. Fix silly data entry sort of mistakes. Get number and types of badges right for all players. Get ratings and tendencies right. Have some sort of organized suggestion/complaint system for the dev team to take in input from the community on these issues and expedite the appropriate fixes. I really don't think it would take more than a couple interns and a single low-level developer to make sure all ratings and such are "correct." There's a bunch of great Historic players they've totally neutered with erroneous badging.

                            2. Quit basing restrictions on color tier. Go ahead and discard the whole arbitrary tiering system altogether, for all I care. Base restrictions on Team OVR, or something along those lines. As others have said, this would make it desirable to use players other than those at the top of their respective tiers. Instead of taking an 79 Silver and 69 Bronze, one might play two 74 Silvers. I would maybe want to play with Arvydas Sabonis, who I was excited about this year but don't play except in easy CPU games. A Dynamic 79 Silver going to 80 Gold might not render that player "useless."

                            3. Regularly have Challenges and make them more interesting. I would actually welcome more stringent requirements, especially later in the game cycle. Play against an all-time Celtics team but not be able to field a team with only 5 or 8 Lakers, but 13 Lakers. Play against a team of Duke alumni, and have to field a team of only UNC alumni. Deeper requirements would make it more compelling to collect, beyond the underwhelming Collector Rewards.

Good post harryl. I definitely think depth and conistency of player quality control will fix a lot. I want more access to players I want to play. Team ratings limit would allow me to maybe play one really good player but sacrifice other aspects of the team with less talent. The player should be available and I need to choose how to use them. At the highest unrestricted levels you're going to have the same teams playing. However I see that now too at any level. The problem now seems to be people can't earn enough Mt to get all the variety of players so they target the best and everyone uses them. I think contracts should go. It hurts so bad that people don't go more than 10 deep on the bench with 3 bronze fillers.

On the business side, I'm a certified public accountant who works with many different businesses. If 2k is satisfied now when competition is behind, yet discontented customers are complaining about significant issues and customer support is neglected that is the beginning of the end. I would be hitting those issues head on and publicly reassuring the customer that they care and are fixing it with a time line they follow. Do that and they're never going to have competition and 90% of these posts go away. Remember that they got to where they are by pulling away discontented customers from the leader at that time. Gotta underpromise and over deliver every day. I really hope that they get it together.
