    Predicting New Madden 17 Features

We are to that magical time of year again, the beginning of the offseason for the NFL, where teams are resigning and releasing players, scouting for the future with upcoming combine, pro days, and draft, and of course free agency.

However, as a football fan this time of the year is when I really start to get antsy for the next madden, in hopes of them adding or re-adding features that I've requested for what feels like forever.

This last year we say Madden do an overhaul on scouting in CFM, add draft champions, and that's kind of all I can think off, but we saw Madden 15 revamp defense, add a watered down version of team relocation just to name a few features.

But now we are into Madden 2017, Maddens 28th rendition of virtual football. Last years game was touted as being the best Madden game in Madden history (and I sure hope so since it's the newest). But for the first time in a long time, I can say that madden is finally moving in the right direction and as long as they add more than they take out for Madden 17, it could hold a lot of promise. BUT unlike most wishlists, I want to see the EA community put together a list of what they think, or predict will be the new features in Madden this year.

For example: I have been beating a drum for custom draft classes and roster editing for years, but the realist in me believes that they won't be adding this anytime soon. So I predict Madden 17 will consist of:

An expanded version of draft champions (maybe like a season long version)
    The Los Angeles Rams
More realistic DB vs WR interaction
I can see them revamping defense a little bit because of the defensive success this year the Panthers and Broncos saw.

I would imagine they would allow a little more wiggle room and freedom with relocating teams after this years debacle over LA

And dare I say that this be the year they allow us to edit players in CFM

I could be wrong, I hope they give us what we want from our wishlists, but I'd like to hear what the community thinks Madden is bringing to the table this year

What do you mean by custom draft classes?

I just want a little more added to CFMs. Most of us that play in leagues, feel like they are skimping on features. Scouting was much better, but is still lacking. We do love the XP sliders option, so hopefully that stays.

A detailed description of what each slider actually effects, or even just more sliders in general would be nice.

Bring back player defensive assignments. I want my best CB to follow the wr, or at least have that option.

For us no switch league guys, it would be great if we could choose the way a defender plays the ball in the air without having to take control of the CB. Just like you can on offense.

Custom Draft Classes: The ability to access the prospects before the season starts so we can go in and edit any player we want, tweak what problems draft classes may have, or make them as realistic as possible. Then you can save each class and upload it to roster share and whoever can download the class that was created.
Even a create a prospect... Something NCAA football had or create a player in CFM like madden once had

I kind of like that idea with a few limitations on it though. I'd like it if we could pick how much talent each position has coming out before the season. Like the two leagues I've played in this season, Olineman have been so weak, it makes it very hard to build a good oline though the draft. Two seasons in a row, if you played a 4-3 defense, you were in great position to get 4-3 guys, but the draft lacked solid 3-4 guys.

I expect more focus on MUT.

I expect more focus on Draft Champions.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some expansion to the passing game mechanics, and I'd welcome that.

I expect some new features in CFM, though I'm not really interested at all.

But what I don't want to see is them doing any more flavor-of-the-moment development and making defense's nonsensically overpowered again like they did in Madden 15. In M15, they took away the typical open, tight passing windows that exist in the real NFL and forced you to play QB like it was 1940. It was completely ridiculous, and I think they realized this later on and gave a reprieve in Madden 16, of course in doing that the passing game had become overpowered but this time they fixed the problem early on enough that it didn't ruin our season the way overpowered defense did in M15.

Re: Predicting New Madden 17 Features

I am, for one, for the first time in a long time, hoping more meat to CFM over game play to keep the franchise players immersed throughout the season.

Is this the year for equipment upgrades? Shoes?

Is this the year for the challenge system to work?(crosses fingers on this one)

I have a feeling Rex and company will deliver on CFM, maybe not all the trimmings, but enough to start enjoying franchise again.

Good topic, we all know wish list are a thing of the past for Madden 17.

Re: Predicting New Madden 17 Features

IMO Madden 16 is great. They just need to add some minor features and revamp some areas. No major revamp needed.

I think they are going to expand on WR/DB animations for sure. I think they're some sick animations, they just got to refine the blatant warps. They DO add an excitement factor.

Defensive assignments: I always hope this gets added each year.

Like roadman, I also have a feeling the team will deliver next year. I like the new scouting feature alot

We will be getting long overdue special teams play redone and more realistic and effective.

I expect added features to MUT and another variation of MUT, all while franchise mode takes a back seat........the usual.

                    If true, that's long overdue.

Did Clint or Rex confirm as much on Twitter?

I must disagree here... Overpowered defense? Are you kidding? Last year you could crank every defensive passing slider to 100 and User QB accuracy to near 0 and Johnny Manziel would still throw for over 6000 yards per year. The main defensive problem from last year was that user sacks were too easy. But playing on offense wasn't a challenge at all.

I'm thinking/hoping this is the year they upgrade the CPU defensive ability. With Carolina and Denver leaning on their defenses to make it to the Super Bowl, it gives me hope. They need to start off by not allowing you to run the same play over and over again without it being stopped. And that's for both when I'm on offense and when the CPU is. It's much too easy going with 3 receivers on the right, 1 on the left, and a runningback because you can just sub your best receiver into the slot and abuse the defense's worst corner (or even a linebacker depending on the coverage they picked out). Conversely, every time it's third and long I know that some sort of 4 verticals play is coming, yet no matter what defense I call, it won't let you stop it.

So yea, based on the superbowl matchup I think fans will be looking for defensive upgrades to replicate that, and I think we might finally get them.

                        I never kid.

If Johnny Manziel was getting 6,000 yards passing in the situation you described or any situation for that matter, that sounds like a franchise stats issue. I don't play franchise much. Not interested, so it wouldn't be something I'd encounter.

Now, as a user, could I throw for lots of yards? Sure. But the way in which I would have to do it wasn't realistic; it wasn't football. When I did attempt a throw that was authentic to the NFL, i.e. passing into a window in a situation where, say, an All-Pro QB would make the majority of the time in real life, a DB miraculously made a deflection most of the time. And when I was on defense, I was able to stop plays that no human defender could've ever stopped in real life.

Statistics themselves aren't the measure of realism or lack of realism necessarily, it's how you arrive at those numbers that tell the story. And the bottom line is that the types of throws NFL QB's consistently make in real life inside the windows that are normally available in the real NFL were mostly taken away by the approach Tiburon took last year, and I'm certainly not the first or even the 1,000th person to have brought it up. Those same windows are available again in 16 and it's for the better.

Defense has its problems, and I've complained about plenty so believe me, I agree that fixes are needed (although I think the biggest problem in Madden is the offensive line AI) but what was being done in the passing game in M15 was a big step backwards and an unrealistic one at that. You had DB's making superhuman cross-field plays and impossible deflections time and time again be it user side or CPU side. That wasn't sim football, what that was was garbage.
