UFC 2 Universe: The Best gets Better

This thread will be used for my UFC 2 Universe. I'll be updating after every event, posting results and rankings. Hope you enjoy!!

New Matchmaker Takes Over at UFC Headquarters

AP - The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) introduced their new matchmaker today at a press conference in Las Vegas, NV. ezevthokie9 was announced as the replacement to retiring matchmaker Joe Silva, who will take an executive role in the company.

"I'm thrilled to have this job with the UFC. Joe [Silva] has laid down the groundwork in his years with the company and I look to build off success," ezevthokie9 stated during the press conference.

The move comes as a shock to the MMA community. ezevthokie9 has never had any experience in any capacity in MMA and is a relative unknown to UFC fans.

"We went off the board with this one, for sure! He's got a knack for the business and is what we all wanted in our eventual hire: a true fan of the sport! You guys will say what you want but we're confident in our hire and how it will effect our company for foreseeable future!" UFC President Dana White said after the press conference.

ezevthokie has plans to keep the fights the Silva signed before his departure date of March 15. These fights include the Fox Sports 1 event headlined by Ben Rothwell and Junior Dos Santos and UFC 199 that included middleweight and bantamweight title fights. This also gives ezevthokie9 the pressure of building UFC 200 from top to bottom.

In closing, ezevthokie discussed UFC 200. "I think the fans will like what we have in store [for UFC 200]. I've been talking to a lot of fighters who have expressed interest in the card and I have no doubt the fans and you guys [the media] will be very impressed with what we have in store!"

UFC Fight Night 1: Dos Santos vs. Rothwell Preview

#6 Junior Dos Santos (-150) vs. #4 Ben Rothwell (+125)
Since losing the UFC Heavyweight title to Cain Velasquez, JDS is 2-2 in the octagon. He's defeated Mark Hunt and current title challenger Stipe Miocic and lost to Velasquez a second time and Alistair Overeem. He is still very relevant in the title scene and could easily challenge for the title again in the near future with a win. Ben Rothwell has won four straight fights, finishing Brandon Vera, Alistair Overeem, Matt Mitrione and Josh Barnett. A win over JDS would propel Rothwell into the championship scene behind the injured Cain Velasquez. This match-up is easily a title eliminator bout with the winner challenging the Werdum/Miocic winner later in this year.

            #10 Mark Hunt (-110) vs. #11 Frank Mir (+105)
The heavy-handed Hunt meets the submission-minded Mir. Hunt has lost 2 of his last 3 fights and looks to take out Mir and rebound to the top of the heavyweight division. Mir also looks to bounce back, having lost 5 of this last 7 outings. Both fighters have work to do to reenter the championship chase and the loser might not never have a title shot again.

            #13 Neil Magny (-175) vs. #11 Hector Lombard(+150)
Magny has won 10 of his last 11 fights and 11 of his 14 fights in the UFC. He looks to crack the top 10 with a win over Lombard, who hasn't fought since January of 2015. Lombard is returning after a year suspension for PED use. Magny looks to break the glass ceiling that has been over him since entering the UFC.

            #17 Bec Rawlings (+110) vs. #18 Seohee Ham (-130)
In a matchup that should have happened in May 2015, Rawlings and Ham will finally step in the octagon. Both women are coming off of victories following losses on the TUF finale that crowned the first Strawweight champion. Ham is clearly the more experienced of the two fighters and looks to climb the relatively new division.

            #30 Chad Laprise (+300) vs. #18 Ross Pearson (-250)
In the most lopsided matchup of the evening, Ross Pearson looks to bounce back against Laprise. Pearson is 3-4 in his last 7 fights while Laprise looks to rebound from his first career loss. The veteran Pearson needs a win here to stay relevant in the lightweight division.

UFC ANNOUNCES UFC 200 CARD FEATURING TWO CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHTS
Card also features UFC Legends returning to the Octagon

UFC President Dana White and new matchmaker ezevthokie9 announced possibly the biggest card of all time, UFC 200. The announcement was made during the UFC Fight Night Q and A session this afternoon.

The main event of UFC 200 will feature the highly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight title. McGregor beat Aldo with a 13 second knockout at UFC 194. McGregor lost his most recent outing against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March. Aldo looks to avenge his only loss in the UFC after holding the title for over six years.

UFC 200 will also feature Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler against #1 contender Stephen Thompson. Lawler has successfully defended his title twice before and is 8-1 since returning to the UFC. Thompson has won his last six fights and has won Performance of the Night three times.

UFC 200 also features the return of Georges St-Pierre. GSP, the longest reigning welterweight champion in UFC history, will face Benson Henderson, who returns to the UFC.

UFC 200 will also have Anderson Silva face Gegard Mousasi and the debut of CM Punk against Mark Munoz.

              MAIN CARD
Conor McGregor (c) vs. Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight title
Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Stephen Thompson for the UFC Welterweight title

Reactions to UFC Fight Night: Dos Santos vs. Rothwell

UFC Fight Night was a huge success and a great way to kick off a new era of the UFC! Here are some notes from each of the main card fights!

-Junior Dos Santos has entered the heavyweight title picture again by defeating Ben Rothwell. He'll most likely get a returning Cain Velasquez to determine the #1 contender to Werdum/Miocic. Rothwell could possibly get Frank Mir in his next fight.

-Frank Mir ... what is there not to say? The man gets counted out time after time only to prove us wrong! His flawless game plan against Mark Hunt went to perfection, getting the ground and pound KO. He will face Ben Rothwell next, but could fight sooner if there's an injury. Hunt finds himself sliding down the ladder and will have a tough hill to climb to reenter the title picture.

-Neil Magny is a top contender at 185, after destroying Hector Lombard in the stand-up and holding his own on the ground. While he hasn't quite entered the Rockhold/Weidman conversation yet, he's very close. Lombard slides down and will need to build his way back up in order to get back to the title hunt.

-While Gabriel Gonzaga was a title contender at one point, he may be a bit past his prime. While he can still finish guys like he did against Magomedov, he's got a long way to get back in the hunt at heavyweight.

-Chad Laprise may be a future contender in the lightweight division. His upset of Ross Pearson is just the start to move up up the ladder at 155. Pearson's loss is just another stumble in his less than stellar UFC career.

Natal, Smith both OUT of UFC 197

Both Leslie Smith (knee) and Rafael Natal (hand) are both out of their upcoming fights at UFC 197. Smith was scheduled for a fight with Germaine De Randamie on the preliminary card while Natal was scheduled to face Robert Whittaker on the PPV portion.

UFC matchmaker ezevthokie has announced that Uriah Hall will face Whittaker. Hall was originally rumored for UFC 201 but has accepted the fight at 197. Ashlee Evans-Smith will replace Leslie Smith against De Randamie.

Breaking: Robbie Lawler out of UFC 200 title defense vs. Thompson
Camp sights undisclosed hand injury; UFC books interim title fight

Current UFC Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler has been forced to withdraw from his latest title defense against Stephen Thompson due to a hand injury. The fight was originally scheduled for UFC 200 as the co-main event.

American Top Team released the following statement regarding the injury:

"We are devastated for Robbie and his fans that he has had to withdraw from his title defense against Stephen Thompson. Robbie tried diligently to work through the injury but the pain was too much for him. Thankfully, the injury Robbie sustained does not require surgery. We look forward to Robbie making a quick recovery and facing whatever challenger the UFC places in front of him."

In reaction to the injury, UFC matchmaker ezevthokie9 has decided to move ahead with an interim title match in its place. Rory McDonald and Carlos Condit, originally scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 4, will now face off at UFC 200 for the interim welterweight title. Stephen Thompson has elected to wait for Lawler's return, which leads to a four-man elimination tournament for the undisputed welterweight crown.

"We can't blame Stephen for doing what he did," said ezevthokie9. "The injury doesn't require surgery so we can move it back a few cards. Carlos [Condit] and Rory [McDonald] are the huge winners of this. They get a title shot on the biggest show of the year! Hopefully we can crown an undisputed champion before the calendar turns over."

In other moves around the welterweight division, UFC Fight Night 3 will be headlined by Johnny Hendricks and Benson Henderson. Both men were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 200. Hendricks was set to face Nick Diaz and Henderson against a returning Georges St-Pierre. Diaz has pulled out of the fight with an injury so both Hendricks and Henderson will move to headline UFC FN 3 in June. GSP will now face Tyron Woodley, who was scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 4 against Kevin Gastelum. No opponent has been named for Gastelum as of this writing.

                          UFC on FOX 1 REACTIONS

-Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov was about as close as you can get without having a draw. I personally had the fight 48-47 Ferguson but could see 49-46 Ferguson. Ferguson won rounds 1 and 3 with Nurmagomedov winning 2 and 5. The 4th round was the decider and 2 of the 3 judges went with Nurmagomedov. He will face Rafael Dos Anjos on Fox in August (barring injuries that may move that fight sooner).

-Shogun Rua and Rashad Evans had the fight of the night for the men. Evans controlled Round 1 but Shogun found his Thai clinch in the 2nd. Evans scored some nice takedowns and held his own in the standup until the clinch. Shogun shows that he still has something left in the tank while Evans will have to go back to the drawing board.

-At 45, Dan Henderson still has knockout power. He hunted Dolloway the entire fight and finally landed the big one to end it. He had stunned Dolloway earlier in the fight but CB was able to weather it and back away. The 2nd time, Hendo was able to finish him. Hendo still has marketability at either 205 or 185 so we'll see him again. Dolloway will slide even further away from the title picture.

-Rose Namajunas showed why she was the runner up in the strawweight TUF competition. Her ground and pound of Tecia Torres was a thing of beauty. She will wait for the winner of the strawweight title fight later this year.

-In the prelims, Cub Swanson made Chad Mendes look like a fool on the ground. Mendes scored an opening takedown (inside of 10 seconds) but was quickly swept over and finished by Swanson. Bethe Correia vs. Raquel Pennington was easily one of the best fights in women's UFC history. Correia never left the pocket and Pennington never backed down. John Dodson also made quick work of Manvel Gamburyan, who's only real claim to fame so far in the octagon is his cousin is Karo Parisyan.

Note: Rankings will be updated after UFC 197. I'll update them after each numbered card and update upcoming fights as well.
