I've seen an Online Fight League created on OS for every MMA game and I know
they have issues with keeping long-term interest, but I thought I would
just go for it and see where this goes.
For starters, I'm going to keep the entry list small and, if it all works
out, maybe increase it. I'm looking for 7 PS4 users that are interested in
participating in this Online Fight League.
Each league has had their own ways of scheduling fights, figuring out
ranking's, etc. My suggestion is to keep this as simple as possible, but
still keep the interest level high.
Format: We will use a "World Cup" format to determine champions and
#1 contenders for each division. The 8 users will be split into two groups of
four fighters. Each user will fight everyone in their group once. We can
decide on a point system for how the fight is finished as a group, but my
original thought is to have KO/Submissions worth 4 pts, TKO worth 2 pts, and Decisions worth 1 pts, but again, this is up for discussion.
After everyone has played their three fights, the top two from each group will advance to a final four, single elimination tournament. Each group winner will fight
the second place from each group and the winners will fight for the title in a 5 round fight.
We will do this until a champion is determined in all 11 divisions. This will conclude Season 1. Each season after will be used to determine the #1 Contender and have a title fight for each division.
How will fighters be selected?: My idea is to use http://www.random.org to assign everyone to a group and everyone a fighter for the tournament in
each weight class.
Example: Season 1 - Women's Strawweight Tournament
Group A = User 1, User 8, User 6, and User 3
Group B = User 2, User 4, User 5, and User 7
There are 22 Women Strawweight fighters. We could list them alphabetically (first name), and assign a number to each fighter 1-22. Using the number generator, User 1 gets #14, which is Kailin Curran. User 8 gets #21, which is Tecia Torres, etc.
After everything is selected randomly it would look like this:
Group A = Kailin Curran (User 1), Tecia Torres (User 8), Jessica Penne
(User 6), Alexandra Albu User 3)
Group B = Randa Markos (User 2), Paige Vanzant (User 4), Aisling Daly (User
5), and Maryna Moroz (User 7)
I feel with the fighter selection being random, it will get people used to
using other fighters than just the highest rated ones.
Whoever wins the tournament is considered champion of this division. For each season after, they will not compete in that division until the
championship fight against the #1 contender tournament winner.
Since the champion will not participate in the Season 2 #1 contender
tournament, this leaves only 7 fighters. My idea to get an even number for
the Group stage, would be to give the fighter that lost in the championship
fight of the previous Season, a bye into the finals of the elimination
tournament. This would leave 3 fighters per group, with the groups winners
fighting each other to advance to the finals to determine the next #1
contender.
Also, it would be awesome to have each fight live broadcasted on Twitch for
everyone in the league to watch.
I hope all of that made sense!
The format is up for discussion as well and we can always change it if
anyone has any other ideas.
First thing I will need to do is figure out if there is any interest for
this type of Online League.
If you are interested, please use the following format to reply:
Name: polyduster
PSN ID: polyduster

If no-one is interested, I will request the Mods delete this thread and continue my offline "Universe".
Thanks everyone for reading!
