MLB 16 - Franchise MLB Draft Discussion

This thread is for impressions on the MLB drafts within the franchise mode. Here are some early impressions that I have from a few test runs:

#1 - The draft classes are dynamic again.
What does this mean? The prospects who are in the draft class pool change every time you advance to draft day. I wrote down the "blue chip" prospects and took note of which prospects were in the draft class pool. I had 25 blue chips and I went through the draft FIVE times and here's the # of blue chips I had in each: 7-8-6-10-9

I'm pretty disappointed about this. I really wanted a static draft class that changed every year. I think we'll now have players carry over season to season. I will look at this later.

Please give us STATIC draft classes moving forward!!!!!!!!

#2 - The potentials look better at first glance
I think it was pretty common for guys to manually take off some POT for each player drafted in MLB '15. In '16 the potentials are much more balanced IMO. I saw only one 99 POT guy after reviewing all 30 teams. There were probably 8-10 A POT guys. That's way lower than years past.

To go a bit deeper here's one MLB Draft POT breakdown:
    90+ (13) 93, 92, 93, 94, 95, 97, 90, 91, 91, 95, 91, 92, 94
    80+ (44)

#3 - The ratings glitch/cheat from '15 is no more
In '15 there was a glitch/cheat where you could not scout a soul, not discover a soul, and there ratings would be exact. So basically there was no guessing. Every prospect you had in your draft pool had their exact ratings. This year that doesn't seem to be the case as none of the players in the draft class are completely "grayed out".

#4 - There is a no potential glitch/cheat...not as bad though
Put in spoilers in case people don't want to read it...
    Spoiler

That's my first take. Some of the info could not be fully correct, so please correct me if you noticed anything different.

Hopefully more people can contribute what they find as well.

    *Random Rant*
The player appearances are a little better and names are okay...but there's still room for improvement!

One thing I would like to see in the future is more scouts. I'm sure MLB clubs have more than 4.

You are confusing me, I think you have static and dynamic switched. However you also say you had different results every draft but then say you want a draft that changes every year ?

        Huh ?

I want the draft class to be tied to a year. In year 1 I want every single prospect in the draft pool.

In year 2 I want a completely new pool of talent.

I don't want to restart the draft and have a random selection of guys enter. I want all of them in there.

          Hope that clarifies

I haven't spent a lot of time with franchise this year, I am really liking the three inning game modes. However that is all I played last year and of course we know all the draft problems from then.

So you are saying, let's say the draft was only five players:

            1. 1B Johnson
            2. 2B Smith
            3. SS Clark
            4. RF Edwards
            5. CF Henry

            Are you stating :

            1. You run the draft (YR1) do not like results re-load producing different players from the first or different values from the first ?

            2. You run the draft and #4 Edwards is not selected and appears again in YR2 ?

I guess in the end it doesn't matter too much I'm just trying to see what the issue is and if a work around can be implemented....

            Thanks

I didn't focus on who went where. Yea if you reload the draft you can get a new group of players with some possible repeats.

The issue I have is Edwards wouldn't even be available to draft. He could be in your initial draft pool as a blue chip and when you go to the draft he won't be there.

If you have them in your scout pool, they should be available to draft IMO.

I kind of like that, it adds another element of uncertainty. Maybe the kid is a stud at football and went that route, maybe he decided to play college ball...got a girl knocked up and decided ball wouldn't pay the bills...

Maybe make it an option like the umpire calls...dynamic or static draft classes...

If there was depth to the players I'm 100% on board. For example if an 18 year old HS player wants to go to college, cool. But the 22 year old guys need to go pro and most of the 21 year olds if they are blue chips.

If they were classified as HS, Junior College, College Jr., and College Sr. It would be way better. Then they could add in an international process

Please tell me they got rid of the late 20 years old prospects or the eta of a prospect is 10 years.

This was actually my biggest pet peeve. That and I have no idea what the ETA actually means in terms of the game mechanics. Does it impact development speed (is there a hidden rating)? Is it just a projection based on...what?

Top prospects that don't come out for the draft is frustrating, though. I an imagine why "they went back to school", "they pulled a Russell Wilson/John Elway and played football instead", etc., but it would be nice if that was the actual system. I.e. maybe a note on the kid's profile that say "he has expressed interest in the past in playing professional football" - then I know I can put resources in scouting him, etc, but maybe he won't be there. Plus it adds some actual depth, opens the door to other systems (convince him to play baseball and for my team if we draft him), kids that make the decision AFTER being drafted, etc.

Yea there just isn't any depth. They added the 20/80 scale and a true origin of the players but nothing more.

There's so much they could do here:

                            - Tell us what stage of life they come from (HS/JUCO/College/Int'l)
                            - Make the blue chip guys have a better ETA
                            - Lower the ceiling on most as they are a tad too high by default, so raise the floor but lower the ceiling.
                            - Give us MLB player comparisons
                            - Give us projected draft position

I'm just a draft guy and would love to see it become a better experience.

Yeah they're really missing out on longevity with these draft classes. I put in a lot of work to go through and fix ratings after each class, as well as writing up stories about the prospects to provide a little depth. It would be great if something like that can be provided within the game in the future.
