The Nate Silver Experience (featuring Hue Jackson) - A Browns Dynasty

No, that's the not the name of a new jazz fusion band. It's the name of my new Cleveland Browns' dynasty. I thought it might be interesting to play up Cleveland's new found interest in football analytics, and see just what might happen if some new blood and a new perspective were put in to place.

Hue Jackson named new Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns

After another disappointing season under Mike Pettine, the Cleveland Browns have announced their new head coach, Hue Jackson. Jackson previously has served as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnatti Bengals.
"We have a lot of work to do. I'm ready to jump right in," Jackson said on his way to board a plane. Cleveland has had a losing record in 11 of its last 12 seasons.

In conjunction with the Hue Jackson hire, the Browns have also announced the hiring of a new face, Nate Silver. Silver, the famous statistician and founder of the website fivethirtyeight.com, has agreed in principle to become the Cleveland Browns' top advisor and VP of Public Relations. Silver has gained world fame through his abilities to predict U.S. elections, baseball results, and all other things nerdy, and will attempt to bring the spreasheet to the gridiron and erase a long running history of losing for the Cleveland Browns.

It has been an ugly recent history for the Browns, and the expectation is that Silver will provide new insight to an organization in desperate need of some revitalization.

Silver states "losing is in Browns' blood and must be expelled from the system."

Nate Silver's analytics didn't take long to come to the forefront. In an prepared statement for the media, Silver boldly announced that the "losing culture of the Browns has far permeated the organization from top to bottom, and drastic measures will need to be taken to shed the losing skin from our rising body." While a little flowery and dramatic, the underlying tone seems apparent: Cleveland will be looking to trade some of its pieces and start anew.

Jackson/Silver claim "Whole team is potentially on trading block"
Hue Jackson wants winners. Unfortunately, Jackson can't seem to find too many around the Cleveland training facility. "We have too many guys around here that have developed a habit of losing, and have grown accustomed to it. Not anymore." Rumors have been swirling that Jackson has been actively shopping the Browns' top players, including OT Joe Thomas.

Jackson does unthinkable, Trades Thomas to Steelers

He said it was a possibility, but no one believed it. Today, Coach Hue Jackson's threats rang true, as franchise left tackle Joe Thomas was traded to the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers for a 3rd and 4th round pick, and a conditional pick in next year's draft. Jackson admitted it was a difficult decision, but ownership and Nate Silver's analytics suggested that the timing was right. "I'm sure this is not the last move this team will make," Jackson commented.
