Gatlinburg Tennessee Trip: Suggestions

Me and my wife are headed to Gatlinburg in a couple weeks. We are staying at a log cabin in the mountains for a week and we are trying to find things to do. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

So far we have

Smokey Mt. Outdoors - Upper River rafting http://www.smokymountainrafting.com/...er-rafting.php

Smokey Mt Ziplines
http://www.smokymountainziplines.com/

Sugarlands Distillery Tour - http://www.sugarlandsdistilling.com/...premium-tours/

Smokey Waterfall Adventure - https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUser...Tennessee.html

Plus we have several restaurants we plan on hitting. I'm trying to find a ATV rental place which we can take 4 wheelers up and around mt. trails.

Sooooooo I need to add more stuff to fill the time :google:

When are you going? I am going out there the last week of June as well. As far as what to do, I don't really know other than Dollywood right now, haven't looked into it too much.

My wife and I have been to Gatlinburg two over the past five years so I can give you some recommendations. First, I have never been to Smokey Mt Ziplines, but I have been to Climb Works and their ziplines are awesome. Once you start, your feet don't hit the ground for two hours. Here's the Tripadvisor for Climbworks https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attracti...rg_Tennessee.h tml

I can't personally give a comparison of the two, but I found a good review from someone who went on both to assist you to make your own decision:

There's plenty of activities in downtown Gatlinburg, shops, attractions, restaurants, etc. that can keep you pretty busy and Pigeon Forge's strip has Amusement Parts and Museums and is a good way to kill a spare day, as well.

For more activities... Go to Cade's Cove. Bike it if your wife is up to it. We've been horseback riding in Sevierville, but the sightseeing wasn't that great, imo. There's a place called Ober Gatlinburg that you ride a Aerial Tram to get to that's a good filler, as well. It's not that great, I mean to me it's straight out of an 80's movie if you ask me. However, it's cool to see at least once and there's plenty of activities to do once you get to the top. Save your money on the chairlift downtown and take the one there instead. The views are much better.

For breakfast there's plenty of pancake houses. My go-to is the peanut butter and banana pancakes at Flapjacks. For lunch there's a spot in Pigeon Forge called the Old Mill Pottery House Grill and Cafe. I had a Prime Rib sandwich there a few years ago that was the best damn sandwich I've ever had in my life. The Old Mill Restaurant is also right there, as well and is a good place for a nice county dinner. Both places are extremely tourist-y so be prepared for a wait. If your looking for a place off of the beaten path try Greenbrier Restaurant for dinner. It's small romantic restaurant, but it's fairly pricey. It's allegedly haunted, as well, but I haven't seen any ghost there myself.

We are headed down the 13th to 20th.

We talked about Dollywood but we have both been to so many amusement parks we decided to skip it and use the money on something else.

Awesome, thanks a bunch J, perfect info I was looking for. Looks like Climb Works it will be, I'll trust the reviews. Granted I'm sure both are great but I'm going to show my wife Climb Works.

I look forward to researching these places in the next day or so.

I have a home in Mynatt Park (investment and my place to stay during football season :)), which is right behind Bubba Gump. Everyone has pretty much nailed things to do, but definitely take a day at Dollywood. Other than that, I don't really know of a lot of exciting things to do there, when I go it's basically an unwind time for me with a bottle of Jack and the mountains lol.

As far as eating:
1) The Peddler
2) Dick's Last Resort
3) Smoky Mountain Trout House
4) Apple Barn

Breakfast:
1) Pancake Pantry
2) Crockett's

Also, make sure you grab a smothered dog on the strip at Fanny Farkles

If you and the wife enjoy wine, I would also suggest doing the Rocky Top Wine Trail. It's free and there are about 6 wineries in that area that participate and its pretty good. http://rockytopwineries.com/

If you're interested in nighttime entertainment I will suggest the Comedy Barn. On our last trip there my family basically had to talk me in to going. Normally, that's just not my cup of tea, but I actually had a really good time. It's a bit cheesy and hee-hawish, but some of it was really funny. I especially enjoyed the audience participation stuff.

Also, if you have a sweet tooth there's a little bakery out in Pigeon Forge that's great. The name of it is Cakes by Bakin' Bishop, their cinnamon rolls and cupcakes are amazing and the owner is super friendly.

If you are a fan of milkshakes try Smoky Mountain Shakes and Dogs. They have a variety of unique hot dogs and the best milkshake I have ever had(chocolate peanut butter). Sounds like an odd recommendation I know but check trip advisor reviews to see if it is something you might enjoy. We make a trip there every time we are in the area.
