In my opinion NBA2k has the best franchise mode out of any sports hands down.
You can play GM or be the player, plus other things. It never gets boring to me. Which MLB the Show has now adapted too...


But both of those games got that idea from Madden. Does anyone remember that one year where we could play in "Player mode" and create a player and take him from high school, then to college then to the pros?

Why in the world did EA abandon that? That could have been the start of something great. Instead NBA2K took that concept and have run away with it.

Does anyone remember which year Madden that was?

I don't remember Madden having this. I do remember when you could import players from NCAA to Madden (which was one of the best features ever in a sports video game imo), but I don't recall this being in just Madden.

Yes one year Madden had a franchise mode like the one you see with NBA2k and MLB the show. Where you could create a player start from high school and work your way up to the pros. You had to build your player attributes up through the years... This was like maybe 10 years ago. They did it one year then scraped it

I don't remember this ever existing in Madden whatsoever. Madden NFL has never featured playable college teams because NCAA Football existed. The closest they got to this was a playable senior bowl game in franchise mode of one of the late PS2 Madden games.

Some of the NCAA Football games had a single-player career mode called "Road To Glory" where you started in the high school playoffs and were recruited by various schools and then worked up the college ranks once you signed, and once your player graduated he could be imported into Madden superstar mode. However, that functionality was spread across two games, it was never part of Madden by itself.

I know NCAA you played in High School and then you could obviously import classes from NCAA to Madden. Is that what you're thinking of?

What you have described OP doesn't sound like franchise mode. It sounds more like MyPlayer or MyCareer mode.

Are you thinking of superstar mode? That was in madden 06 and 07. There was really no franchise mode because you had to control your created player.

Yea it was superstar mode not Franchise mode, but I remember it because I remember you could chose your DNA like if your dad was a Doctor you would have a high IQ and if your mom was a sprinter or something you would be athletic, I want to say it was before they got the exclusive license with the NFL.

The dna think was pretty stupid imo. They got rid of it in 08 and had you apply points to your guy instead.

It was after they got the license in 06, was first year of superstar mode.

Yes you're right, the high school part was NCAA

But with that NCAA feature and the superstar mode EA were 10 years ahead of everyone else... And since then its just been stale as far as features...
Just look at some of the past innovations they could have improved on and then they just completely left them behind

Think you're thinking of superstar mode which is still in the game, it's just rolled into the player cfm. Granted it has absolutely nothing the old one did like getting to choose your "pedigree"(random combinations of mom and dad that determines your skills), choosing if you were an early mid of late round pick.

I loved the whole DNA thing. Remember I had a corner whose mom was an Olympic sprinter and dad worked for NASA, speed acceleration and play recognition were off the charts.
