good luck with the Chiefs! They have a lot of great pieces but also some pretty big contracts that would be nice to get off the books. It'll be interesting to see how you handle them

Shocking News - Hunt Sells Chiefs

Clark Hunt, center, has sold the franchise he's been with since birth

In one of the most surprising shifts of the offseason, Clark Hunt (of the Hunt Family) has sold the Kansas City Chiefs to young billionaire Matt Mercer. The Hunt Family had owned the Chiefs for over 50 years. Founded in 1960 by Clark's father, Lamar, the team was then known as the Dallas Texans. Hunt was stated as "wanting to go a different direction for more opportunities". He sends his thanks to the entire Chiefs organization. When asked about how it felt to give in and sell, Hunt said, "I will never forget this team. It's all I've known for as long as I've lived. It stings."

New owner, Matt Mercer, has been a lifelong fan of the NFL and has always wanted to own a franchise. His background is cloudy at best, nobody is sure how he got to where he is. He plans on letting the team "run itself" for the first year, at least. "I don't plan on making any drastic changes right this instant. This team is going through a transition and I think we can win now with the right mindset. No need to fix what wasn't broken.", Mercer said.

Chiefs players and fans alike have been talking nonstop about the change. There's disappointment in the Hunt Family leaving. And excitement for what the new owner may bring.

Thank you, thank you! I'll figure it out as I go, I guess..

Same for the sliders/settings. I think I'm going to run default All-Pro with 8 mins. and no accel clock and see what happens. Don't have a ton of time but I might be open to switching to a full 15 mins. in the future.

                    Preseason Preview

Chiefs QBs (from left to right), Aaron Murray, Tyler Bray, Nick Foles, and Kevin Hogan

                    Position Battles to Follow

                    1. Backup QB: After head coach Andy Reid was able to sign Nick Foles in the offseason, everyone locked him in as Alex Smith's backup. "Big Red" has made us realize that's not the case. He has stated that the 4 men sitting behind Alex Smith on the depth chart will battle it out.

                    2. #2 Reciever: Barring another terrible injury, Jeremy Maclin is set to start and be Alex Smith's main target. The problem is, it isn't clear who's going to line up on the opposite side of the field from him. Look for Chris Conley, the second year player out of Georgia to step up. The Chiefs drafted him in the third round of the 2015 draft, with hopes that he'd contribute soon. Now's his chance.

                    3. LG: There are some holes in the offensive line and it's quite evident where they start. Expect rookie Jarrod Pughsley and rookie Parker Ehinger to play their hearts out in the preseason. If neither impresses, we could see a late free agency pickup at guard for the Chiefs.

                    Eyes on the Prize

Starters will get limited reps, as every team makes sure to do in the preseason to avoid injuries. However, the Chiefs are only looking to play their solidified starters for one, maybe two, drives a week. New owner, Matt Mercer, says that there's a small chance we see them for a full quarter in week 3. The Chiefs are doing this to "minimize injuries" as much as possible. As for rust? "They've been here before. They'll be ready for the regular season", says Mercer.

                    New Owner, New Outlook

When Clark Hunt recently sold the team, the entire league expected the Chiefs players to be slow to get into gear. Instead, there appears to be a new life in the locker room and on the field during practice. Insider reports hint that new ownership may mean that some players who were close to Hunt but not necessarily deserving of their spot may lose their job. The fire has been lit and we look forward to seeing who burns the brightest.

Preseason Week 1 - Chiefs Topple Seahawks 24-20

FB Anthony Sherman, right, and QB Aaron Murray chat after the game

Top 3 Stars of the Game

                      1. QB Nick Foles: Foles got the most action and he made the most of it. 14/19 (73% completion rate), 165 yards, and 2 TDs.

                      2. QB Aaron Murray: The two-minute go-ahead drive was put in Murray's hands and he delivered. 5/10 (50% completion rate) and 68 yards. Not the sexiest of stats but he brought home the win.

                      3. WR Rod Streater: Streater was in and out throughout the game, getting looks all over the field. 4 catches, 100 yards, and a TD.

                      Key Position Battles Remain Unclear

Following the preseason opener, the Chiefs are left scratching their heads when they look at their depth chart. Nick Foles looked like he was back to being a franchise QB, even with a fumble in the redzone. But Aaron Murray, with limited playing time, drove the team down the field for the game-winner. The team will have to see more from those two men, as well as Kevin Hogan (3/10, 37 yards) and Tyler Bray (DNP).

As confusing as the backup QB situation may be, the #2 receiver spot is still up for grabs. Rod Streater played lights out, making big plays whenever he caught the ball. Meanwhile, Chris Conley(6 catches, 65 yards, and a TD) looked like he could fill the spot too. Coach Andy Reid will allow them both to keep getting opportunities.

                      Roster Cuts
                      TE James Winchester

Preseason Week 2 - Rams beat Chiefs 31-24

The game was largely dominated by Rams QB Case Keenum

Top 3 Stars of the Game

                        1. QB Nick Foles: Foles was on point once again. This time, with limited action, Foles took on his old team. He finished 5/9 (55% completion rate), 78 yards and a TD.

                        2. CB Marcus Cooper: Cooper lined up in both the slot and outside and locked people down wherever they went. He earned 2 pass deflections, as well as a solid 5 tackles on the day. It's entirely possible he moves up the depth chart.

                        3. WR Chris Conley: Conley continued to make it clear that he wanted that #2 receiver spot. He did have to be removed from the game (high ankle sprain) but he finished with 4 catches, 65 yards, and a TD.

                        Lightning Doesn't Strike Twice

The Chiefs were absolutely torched by the trio of Tre Mason, Case Keenum and Brian Quick. Keenum threw for 227 yards (on 60% completion) and 3 TDs and Quick snagged 8 balls for 158 yards and all 3 of Keenum's TD passes. Meanwhile, Tre Mason was able to carry for 94 yards and a TD on 18 attempts. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid seemed displeased, but not overly so, saying, "This is what the preseason is for. How else are you going to know where to improve?"

With the game tied at 24 late in the 4th, Case Keenum connected on another deep bomb for a TD, putting the Rams up by 7. With the same opportunity as Aaron Murray last week, Kevin Hogan took the field. And he struggled quite a bit. The one bright spot was a 4th and 16 conversion... But he couldn't find a completion after that.

As for the Chiefs position battles... They're still going. Assuming WR Chris Conley's ankle sprain isn't too bad, he'll continue to fight for a starting spot against Rod Streater in week 3 of the preseason. Streater caught 5 passes for 55 yards but most of it was too little, too late.

A new face emerged in the backup QB race as well, with Tyler Bray getting his first snap of the preseason. In his only snap, he came away with a 10 yard completion for a TD. Not the most earth-shattering entrance but he definitely made the team aware of his presence. Nick Foles and Aaron Murray (9/15, 60%, 92 yards) were both about as good as last week. Rookie Kevin Hogan (5/14, 35%, 40 yards) seems to be in a rut. He's likely out of the race.

Much appreciated! May go a bit more in depth with graphics during the regular season if I can muster up the motivation (and time).

Apologies for the preseason taking so long to finish! Should have it done sometime this weekend.
