Poor CAP system COMPLETELY hinders MyGM and MyLeague (and no one seems to care)

Yes, this is partly in response to Ronnie's barbie dress up comment in regards to no CAP hairstyles. You can lock the thread if you feel it is unnecessary.

I wanted to make this topic in very plain English. I keep seeing posts disparaging people who are upset at the lack of improvement to the CAP system. Usually the response is something along the lines of, "look at all the other improvements! how can you care about the CAP system with all of this other stuff!"

I have been playing 2K games since NBA 2K2 and College Hoops 2K3 when I was in elementary school. You can see how old my account is--there are probably decade old threads of mine in the Dynasty HQ.

The selling point of these games (until online play came) was the ability to run a deep, continuous, and realistic franchise mode. The most integral thing to achieving this is off-season mechanics and REALISTIC LOOKING AND PLAYING ROOKIES. It is literally fundamental to the process.

There is no way around this fact. This current NBA off-season has been one of the best in memory due to the free agency shenanigans and this rookie class. Next off-season will be even more exciting because it will be one of the most stacked draft classes of all time. This excitement will be lost due to 2K17's ugly rookies that don't even look human, a poor CAP editing system with only ONE BODY TYPE, and weird tendencies. This results in a fundamentally handicapped MyGM and MyLeague.

At least in last-gen you could create a 290-pound center and have that be reflected in his appearance to some extent, even though that system was plagued with issues as well. I simply cannot suspend my disbelief and pretend that a 350-pound center in 2K17 on PS4 will look more like Tyson Chandler than Eddy Curry.

You want a stocky 6'3" guard who barrels through defenders due to his low center of gravity? Too bad!

I am SOOOOOOO excited to download 2018 draft classes where Dennis Smith Jr., Josh Jackson, Harry Giles, and Lonzo Ball all look the same save for skin color and hairstyle...........

This stuff cannot be ignored and I'm tired of this sentiment getting buried in thread after thread or mocked. The centrality of diverse and good looking CAPs to MyGM and MyLeague is immeasurable. You told us we were getting a "robust" CAP system in 2K15. It wasn't robust, and no significant improvements have been made.

Yes, I will buy 2K17. Yes, I will put dozens of hours into MyLeague. But the reality is, I would play twice as much if the CAP system at least had three different body types (skinny, average, heavy).

This is why I am thinking about buying a juiced up PC and making visual edits myself. Those mod guys are where it's at if you want updates through out the season.

Check out the mods forums they do incredible work and if you are skilled at photoshop you can make your own CAP player look just right. Also I believe it takes some time for the mod software to be released after the game.

But it seems like a awesome idea until year to year saves are released and this 2k looks very fluid. Even though I heard PC users express some game play issues I'll give it a shot.

Look...this game is unreal. They HAVE added some SICK features...especially on MyLeague. I will buy this game.

BUT...I stand with the OP on this.

Oh yeah man. I played 2K13 and 2K14 on PC and used that Ultimate Base Roster. They also had dudes creating AMAZING fictional and real draft classes with real cyberfaces. I don't have a PC that can run 2K right now, hence some of my frustration and passion around this issue lol.

They better do something before the gets out of control. Well, its already out of control a little. I guess this is something for 2k18. I don't see them overhauling it now its probably too late

Op said it all, yes the game has made major improvement, no one denies that. However, you can't play years into your MyLeague unless you like seeing the same players with the same face the same body on every team.

Yeah in in 2030 in my league and most NBA players are retired or on their last leg and game just looks bland. Biggest issue is all the players have amazing ratings but horrible tendencies.

                Everyone looks the same.

OP wants more variation in hair styles, body styles and tattoos for making rookies, I honestly agree with him, I'd like an improvement of the random generated rookies as well, as for an update of the general player portrait mechanics (for new players and those that switch teams)

Let me try to put down some of the main complaints:
                    • No body types. Regardless of height or weight, players all have the same proportional body type (no difference between skinny, average, and fat players). A 5'9" 165-pound point guard will have the same body type as a 6'11" 300-pound center. You can mess with the length of arms, legs, and the torso to try to create the illusion of different body types, but it does not work.
                    • White players just look flat out weird and non-human. I've downloaded the best fictional draft classes for 2K16 and you can get some interesting, realistic looking black players. I've even seen some convincing Asian players. White dudes just have weird, messed up, puffy faces (go look at peoples' attempts at creating Domantas Sabonis).
                    • Bad tendencies. Some of this has been corrected in recent years (I don't think you see people who can't shoot with super high three point tendencies anymore) but there are so many things wrong that using the computer-generated draft classes are not an option for people trying to go 5+ years deep in MyLeague and MyGM. Mass editing this year might help. My ideal fix for this issue is to include templates (or even direct copies) based around existing players for the CAP mode. Example, I open CAP and can select "Jose Calderon" or "Jose Calderon type player" and this would transpose the exact (or similar) ratings and tendencies to that CAP.
                    • Still can't edit headbands as far as I know in 2K16. I mean, WTF?
                    • Haven't been able to edit shorts length on next-gen. With the return of short shorts, this is unacceptable.

Again, the game is great overall and MyLeague is really, really good. If they gave us REAL, DIVERSE BODY TYPES then users could solve pretty much all the other problems ourselves.

I REALLY JUST WANT TO MAKE REAL FAT PLAYERS. THEY EXIST AT ALL POSITIONS!!!!!!!!! LET ME MAKE A FAT CRAFTY POINT-GUARD OR SOMETHING!!!!!!!

I want improved CAPs so I'll support you on this, but it is an exaggeration to say every player is ugly and/or looks the same. I've gotten some very good faces in 2K16 just by generating players. The biggest things that absolutely needs looking at are tattoos and body types.

It's crazy to think that in this generation of gaming, 4 titles deep, we still don't have these same things that were available last gen. I remember I was just drooling at the thought of where we'd be by now in terms of customization back on last gen.. If someone told me by 2K17 we'd LOSE these major features I'd be in disbelief.

So yes, we need *more* hairstyles and beards and whatnot, but these two components (which are absolutely missing altogether) need to be looked at first and foremost for 2K18.

                        Ladies and Gentlemen,

I just saw a bullet point on Game Informer that says draft classes can be imported and edited at any point! This was for MY GM so I am assuming it will be the same for My League.

Even more reason to get the PC version once the mod software is out. I just might get into creating Cyber Faces to keep it realistic from season to season.

Right, I may have used hyperbole when I said all the players are ugly/look the same. I tried to add some nuance by stating that it's mostly white players that look the same.

And we all have things we value more than others in the CAP system. For example, I forgot to add tattoos to my list of CAP issues, because honestly, for me, tattoos are not a big deal. So thank you for adding that in there!

Re: Poor CAP system COMPLETELY hinders MyGM and MyLeague (and no one seems to care)

CAP is neglected, yes, but the assertion that "no one cares" from the 2k team lacks evidence and is unproductive. Ronnie's homophobic snarky idiocy notwithstanding, he's just one (not very high level) guy.

I guarantee you there are design and art people over there who would dearly love to improve muscle tone, expand body types, and go to work on CAP. They are so far hitting barriers to doing that involving either technical issues or project resource allocation or both.

If I had to guess, this year they focused primarily on player head and hair scan improvements, arena lighting and presentation, and the big push to 300 3D sneakers. Oh, and rendering all those design changes to blacktop, player's customized gyms, etc.

I expect those strategic resource priorities were set well before Thanksgiving last year. They probably even have some mock up work on player model improvements in early development on their storage drives.

I played 30+ years of MyLeague in one game save alone in 2k16, around 300 12 minute quarter games, so I feel this issue from that perspective. I would much prefer improvements to CAP than 300 3D sneakers. But I'm a minority in the market, and I get it.

I expect the development strategy side of 2k - well above Ronnie - would like to improve CAP too, it's just a question of how high a priority to make it. I think we can be helpful this year in lobbying for CAP improvements to be at the top of the list for next year, as it affects MyCareer and all the MyPark and ProAm modes a ton as well.

But we won't be effective in that advocacy if we approach them with anger and say they don't care. There's no evidence they don't care, and a lot of evidence they listen closely to community feedback.

I don't think I'm being too angry. And honestly, the "no one cares" comments was more directed at posters here on this forum because I always see "improve the CAP!" posts getting buried in threads or mocked at by online and MyCareer players who generally use the default roster all year.

You are right though, I'm sure a ton of dudes behind the scenes want the CAP updated as well. I think a lot of older heads are into the deep MyLeague simulation and recognize how necessary it is to fully immersing yourself in the franchise modes.

But the overall popularity of the CAP feature? I don't know how much of a minority we are dude. Look at the downloads on 2KShare of draft classes. That work is loved and downloaded by tens of thousands of people . . . there's a lot of people who want to play with the hot new high school superstar who's supposed to be the next Lebron or KD or whatever.

Me personally? For the last two years I've really wanted an authentic J-Will White Chocolate-esque CAP to player lock in MyLeague with, but with the state of the CAP it wouldn't be that satisfying.
