HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
I'm not sure why but when I play with the new patch and hdr enabled I end up having to change all my tv settings like brightness almost all the way up and dynamic contrast to high. I have a Samsung js9000 and I enabled UHD which I believe is the same thing? Anyone else having a similar issue?Tags: None -

HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
I have a LG uh610 and with new patch and HDR enabled everything looks a lot of darker. I was "excited" when i saw the HDR banner on my tv running 2k, but i'm a little dissapointed with the outcome.
I have enabled "game mode" on tv settings for PS4, maybe HDR an that is not the best choice?
To me looks better with HDR disabled right now.Last edited by firol; 11-07-2016, 05:39 AM.Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
UHD and HRD are different.
UHD has to do with the resolution of the screen and HDR has to do with the dynamic range of the colors and such.Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
Mine is darker too. I have Samsung. I HATE IT. I want to go back to the way it was before. Is there a way to disable HDR on the PS4 for this game?
***EDIT*** I just turned OFF the HDR on my tv and it got better. Maybe for some reason the game and the tv can't both try to do HDR at the same time?Last edited by martymcflyy85; 11-07-2016, 01:05 PM.Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
My tv shows an info panel on top right corner when play hdr content.
I got 2k17 looks very good. My tv has several hdr modes (medium, dark, bright, vivid). I changed to vivid hdr and looks amazing.Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
Looks amazing on my end.
I think the reality is that unless you have a 2016 TV, it won't properly handle HDR. The last year models can accept it, but aren't true HDR.
To be able to handle the extended range of dark and white levels, your TV has to be able to get really bright and also deep black levels.
Otherwise it will look dimmer. The only option you have to combat it is to Max out the brightness level (back light, not the black/white levels).Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
I have a 60" Samsung KS8000 tv and it can and does look good with proper adjustments to the pic settings. I go to special viewing mode and select HDR+ mode. From there the settings I use are backlight-20, brightness-56, contrast-100, sharpness-30, and color-70. I have smart led set to high. Auto motion plus set to custom and have blur set to 4. Everything else is 0 or off in that option. HDMI black level set to auto. Dynamic contrast is set to high. Color tone set to cool. Gamma is set to 3. Color space is set to native. For me on ps4, both NBA 2k17 and uncharted 4 look amazing. Remember on uncharted and many other games that there are brightness settings within those games that you can also tweak. On Xbox One S on gears 4 and forza horizon 3 there are settings for normal brightness and also HDR brightness that can be adjusted in game settings. Hopefully those with Samsung tvs that these settings can help or at least work off of to get a picture that looks good on your end on what you prefer. Of course everyone's tastes are different and some like warmer pictures or more vivid or saturated pictures. I prefer my picture a lil more saturated and love to see the colors pop. That's why 4K HDR tvs were right up my alley for what I like to see when playing video games.Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
You do realize that what you just described is not HDR? HDR+ is a samsung effect that is suppose to mimmic hdr on non hdr content which is far far far from what it really is.I have a 60" Samsung KS8000 tv and it can and does look good with proper adjustments to the pic settings. I go to special viewing mode and select HDR+ mode. From there the settings I use are backlight-20, brightness-56, contrast-100, sharpness-30, and color-70. I have smart led set to high. Also turning on HDR+ means you are not using game mode which is required if you want input lag numbers in the 20 range. Turning game mode off means your input lag numbers are about 100msComment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
I thought HDR+ was supposed to enhance the HDR that was available. I used settings in game mode, movie mode and also HDR+ mode while playing games that are HDR compatible games like gears 4, NBA 2k and forza horizon 3 and the HDR+ mode settings look better to me no question. I would take that to my grave. You very well could be right also but I trust my own eyes and I think it looks better with it enabled. As far as lag goes....I honestly don't notice it much. Game mode does feel a lil faster and slightly more responsive but in a fast sports game like basketball...it doesn't seem to affect my control substantially or even much to be honest. I am a person and may be in the minority that want the best graphics available and possible and willing to sacrifice some response time if it's not game breaking or significant lag...than I'm ok with that trade off but I agree most want the response time and lag as low as possible and that's fine also.Comment

Re: HDR on PS4 (SUPER dark)?
I've always thought your set have to be in movie mode to get proper HDR. I have a 65 inch KS9000 and mine doesn't flash HDR on 2K17. However it does say HDMI UHD color.Florida State Seminoles
