Big Paws - The Career of Darrenn Pawlikowski
Once again I'm starting anew with a player career. Unfortunately my last two have fallen victim to save file corruption. Rather than restart one of those two I have decided on a new character. I have taken steps to prevent another file failure. Hopefully. Please allow a few posts for formatting, then feel free to jump in.

Re: Big Paws - The Career of Darrenn Pawlikowski
Last year's success will be hard to repeat for Glenbard West
posted Aug 10, 2012
Last season Glenbard West rode a strong running game, a stellar defense and a big senior class to a 10-0 start before falling to Lake Zurich by a score of 10-3 in the second round of the Chicago Class 7A state playoffs. This year looks to be a different story in Glen Ellys.
Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet puts the team through running drills during the first day of football practice on Wednesday in Glen Ellyn.
With an astonishing 11 starters from last year's team moved on due to graduation coach Chad Hetlet will be leaning on a number of underclassmen and first time starters at several key positions.
"We're confident in the players we have here now." Hetlet said last week. "We can't dwell on last season and we can't use those guys being gone as an excuse for this season."
Two of the most important positions with new faces are at quarterback and along the offensive line.
Senior Darrenn Pawlikowski looks to be the front runner for the quarterback position. Pawlikowski played organized football for the first time as a sophomore and split time as the JV quarterback that year.
Last season he was listed as the team's backup QB but only saw minimal playing time at wide receiver at tight end.
Glenbard West does have an experienced group of runningbacks to help take some pressure off of Pawlikowski. Senior tailback Alex Howell has been the teams leading rusher for the past two seasons and junior Billy Wilson proved to be a reliable second option last season. Senior fullback Narayan Glick is a punishing runner and strong lead blocker.
At receiver it's a mixed bag of youth and experience with all three top wideouts being new starters. Craig Ostrander, Thien Nguyen and Geo Sarria were fourth, fifth and sixth on the depth chart in 2011 but top it in 2012. The most experienced player in the receiving corps is senior tight end Michael Weisbecker who started six games last season.
The offensive line will have four new starters as Senior Carlton Grover will be the only returning starter from last season. He'll move from right guard over to center.
An inexperienced offensive line and quarterback are not a good formula in the ultra competitive top division of prep football.
Defensively things look a bit more consistent from 2011 as the team will return seven starters on that side of the ball.
"We have a strong, experienced defense and we're going to lean on them. Especially early in the season." Hetlet explained. "Like I said before, we're confident in the players we're going to put on the field."
One other player of note is senior kicker Ryan Harvey, one of the top kickers in the nation. Harvey will handle the kicking and punting duties for the team, as he has for the past two seasons. Harvey is being heavily recruited by teams in the MAC and Big Ten already and should garner national attention if he has another great season.
Expect a .500 season or so from Glenbard West. Anything better than that would require a number of players to step up and a masterful job of coaching by Hetlet.
Glenbard West opens their season with a home game against crosstown rivals Glen Ellyn High.Last edited by djp73; 12-02-2016, 10:01 PM.---Comment

Glen Ellyn tops Glenbard West in overtime

DARRENN PAWLIKOWSKI RUNS IN FOR A TOUCHDOWN, BILLY WILSON CATCHES A TOUCHDOWN PASS

PAWLIKOWSKI THROWS A LATE TD PASS TO CRAIG OSTRANDER TO TIE THE GAME AT 28-28
Glenburn West quarterback Darrenn Pawlikowski threw an interception on his teams first possession and Glen Ellyn capitalized by putting seven points on the board less than two minutes into the game. Glen Ellyn added another score on their second possession and led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Glenbard West finally got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when Pawlikowski ran in from eight yards out, making it 14-7 Glen Ellyn. Glen Ellyn added another score before halftime to lead 21-7 at the break.
Pawlikowski threw his first touchdown pass on the first possession after halftime, hooking up with runningback Billy Wilson from 11 yards out. Glen Ellyn answered.
Trailing 21-28 late in the fourth quarter Pawlikowski drove his team up the field before hooking up with Craig Ostrander for an 11 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 28-28 with under a minute to play.
Glenbard West's defense held to force overtime.
Pawlikowski and the Glenbard West offense had the ball to start overtime when disaster struck. Pawlikowski attempted to hit tight end Michael Weisbecker on an out and the ball was tipped at the line. A Glen Ellyn defender picked it off with ease and two plays later the game was over after a 13 yard touchdown pass by Glen Ellyn.
"We had a lot of kids playing in their first big game and we were right there." Glenbard West head coach Chad Hetlet said after the tough loss. "We as a coaching staff are proud of all the players and we're ready to learn from this loss and move on. We've got a whole season ahead of us."
Glenbard West starts off their season 0-1 and will face Hanover Park, also 0-1, next Friday.

Glenbard West edges out Hanover Park

DARRENN PAWLIKOWSKI STRETCHES FOR A TOUCHDOWN, CRAIG OSTRANDER HAULS IN A TOUCHDOWN PASS

OSTRANDER GETS BEHIND EVERYONE FOR A SCORE, RYAN HARVEY CELEBRATES THE GAME WINNING FIELD GOAL
Glenburn West needed a 34 yard field goal from Ryan Harvey as time expired to slip past Hanover Park in a game that had a number of lead changes.
Hanover Park drew first blood with a 18 yard field goal on their first possession. Darrenn Pawlikowski answered that score with a five yard touchdown run on Glenbard West's first chance with the ball.
Early in the second quarter Hanover Park took a 10-7 lead when fullback Joe Allen scored from a yard out. Minutes later Pawlikowski hooked up with Craig Ostrander for a nine yard score and a 14-10 lead that they held through halftime.
Early in the third quarter Hanover Park re-took the lead on a pass from Nick Harrington to DeShaun Rosemond that covered 42 yards. 17-14 Hanover Park.
Glenbard West went back on top on the final play of the third quarter when Ostrander's double move left his defender on the turf. Ostrander had a ten yard cushion in the endzone when he hauled in a 44 yard touchdown strike from Pawlikowski. 21-17 Glenbard West.
Joe Allen would score again for Hanover Park early in the fourth quarter to make it 24-21.
Ryan Harvey hit a 24 yard field goal midway through the quarter to tie things up.
Glenbard West got the ball back with just over two minutes to play and the game still tied. A perfect punt by Hanover West had them pinned at their own two yard line.
Pawlikowski put the team on his back, completing five of five passes for 50 yards and running twice for 31 yards to put the ball on the 17 yard line. Coach Chad Hetlet used his final timeout with three seconds left to play and trotted out Harvey for the 34 yard game winner. Harvey's kick was straight down the middle and would have been good from 45 or more yards.
"You don’t think about kickers too much at this level." Hetlet said after the game. "But to have one with Ryan's talent is a big weapon for us. That was a big kick."
Glenbard West improves to 1-1 on the season and will travel to face an 0-2 St. Charles team next week.

Glenbard West's Pawlikowski out with Concussion
posted Sep 3, 2012
Glenbard West quarterback Darrenn Pawlikowski rolled up over 350 yards of offense in his team's big win at St. Charles last week. The game was so out of hand that he spent the entire fourth quarter on the sideline with most of the other starters.
Glenbard West QB Darrenn Pawlikowski will miss at least a week with a concussion.
Head Coach Chad Hetlet informed the Illinois State High School Athletics Commission today that Pawlikowski had been diagnosed with a concussion following the game. All coaches are required to inform the commission anytime an athlete suffers a head injury. Pawlikowski is now required to sit out all games for a minimum of ten days and may not have any contact during practice. He will need to be cleared by the school's athletic trainer as well as an independent neurologist assigned by the commission before he can return to action.
"We take these types of injuries very seriously." Hetlet said. "The student athlete's health and well being is and should always be our top priority."
Glenbard West faces 1-2 Hoffman Estates on Friday. Sophomore Cameron Carter will start in Pawlikowski's place.---Comment

Glenbard West managed to get by with two narrow wins and a loss while starting quarterback Darrenn Pawlikowski was out for three games with a concussion. Pawlikowski was required to sit out ten days after initially being diagnosed with a concussion on September 2nd following a win at St. Charles.
Glenbard West QB Darrenn Pawlikowski is now cleared to return after missing three games with a concussion.
On September 12th he was reevaluated by both Glenbard West's trainer and an independent neurologist assigned by the Illinois State High School Athletics Commission as per the commission's policy.
Pawlikowski failed those tests and was required to sit another ten days before being cleared to return to action when retested yesterday.
Glenbard West squeaked past Hoffman Estates by a score of 10-3 on September 8th before losing at home to Alsip 10-8 on the 14th. They bounced back last week with a 21-17 win over Berwyn.
At 4-2 with four games left to play Glenbard West will likely need to win out to qualify for the state tournament. They face 0-6 Oak Park this Friday.---Comment
