Share your expansions teams / experiences

I would love to see what everyone has come up with for custom expansion teams (whether you've uploaded them or not). Please share whatever you have and what kind of results you've had. Even if you used one of the pre-made expansion teams I would love to hear your opinion on how things are going, whether you were happy with your selection or not, how much success you've had, just in general what do you think about this mode?

I'm going to start a MyGM or MyLeague with 2 expansion teams around Christmas Day, and then I'd like to carry it forward adding a couple more teams every four or five seasons until I hit 36, so I'd love to have the "six best" teams I can get!

It's always bugged me how the names on the backs of jerseys look so WRONG and DIFFERENT on the court, yet when you edit the jerseys, the names appear fine. But on the court, they're so squooshed and vertically-stretched.
This is for created teams, like you can download from the community.

I've been stuck with the pre-built teams because of this.

It's a shame, because building an expansion team is a ton of fun, being able to make a franchise that's truly YOURS, with no prior legacy to build upon, and/or no mess to clean up either (think the Brooklyn Nets for the latter).

But man, if only for that bug! I can't make the Seattle Supersonics because the names on the jerseys are so distorted!

I'd show comparison pics, but my phone is having trouble with the internet for some reason. Can someone else download a Sonics team and show the differences I'm talking about?

That's awesome, I did a STL Spirits thing last year, this year I'm doing a St. Charles Explorers team.

Okay this is a dumb question but how do you upload your team? I created a expansion team and really like the jerseys I did and want to be able to use it again for when I want to start over.

I added 6 expansion teams to MyLeague. They were: Vancouver Ravens, San Diego Surf, Kansas City Knights, Virginia Storm, Nashville Stars, and the Baltimore Barons. I chose to be the Virginia Storm.

I started at the beginning of the off-season. I had the 4th pick in the draft and ended up drafting Ben Simmons. In the expansion draft, I got Josh Richardson, Donatas Montiejunas, and Tyson Chandler. Ended up getting Rajon Rondo and Eric Gordon in free agency.

I am going to play my first game tonight.

I haven't noticed any major issues with the jersey names being stretched that you mentioned about Trackball. I have a Sonics set that I created using a bunch of different logos other people much more talented than myself added to the game, but I think the expansion I edited it too came out great. I don't have pics but my Xbox gt is Tiesel if anyone wants to check them out. Only the most recent sonics one is my up to date set. The older one is meant to be alternate jerseys for my same team, but I have a few details to add (patch logo, shorts waistline stripe). I also have Pitt Condors and Pitt Force teams loaded in there.

Again, I didn't create any of the logos, I just used them from various other people and mixed them together to come up with what I think is a pretty cool overall design.

Re: Share your expansion teams / experiences

From an experience side, I'm going to start my "actual" MyLeague with a Sonics expansion once the SimWorld DCs are available. I've played with it and I think the most balanced option is to increase the number of safe players from 8 to 11-12 if you start in regular season. Doing it at 8 in the offseason makes sense bc teams typically don't have as many guys under contract, so in effect they can still protect their important guys. I found doing it at 8 for a regular season start was leaving too many good players available to draft.

If you want a reference point, go back and look at the quality of guys the Bobcats got in their expansion draft, it's really terrible lol.

Only downside is I won't have a rookie in year one, but it would feel too unrealistic to me if I went the preseason route and drafted like Ben Simmons, and all the other rooks were on different teams.

My starting 5 I've drafted in practice drafts right now is Langston Galloway, Hollis Thompson, Joe Ingles, Lavoy Allen, Willie Reed (just bc im a fan lol). If you compare that to the Bobcats starters in year one it's still better in my opinion, but it's still pretty tough from a 2k perspective. Then I'll really have to work on building the team, drafting and trading smart, etc. can't wait to get it going.

Re: Share your expansions teams / experiences

Im in 2019 with my Hartford Colonials. Made sick jerseys, arena is the XL Center. Sick.
We sucked for three years, this last season was the worst, finishing in the cellar, I made a blockbuster of a trade and got Demar Derozan and valanciunas from Toronto for derick favors and Eric Gordon.
We actually just won the lottery and have first pick..

Its a toss up tho. One guy is a clear favorite Shane Wheeler with a 79 overall, a 99 3pt, a 97 open mid, 84 contested 3, 80 off drib mid, 74 off Drib 3... But only a 83 potential.

The other, Shareef Oniel. Solid PF, but only 72 ovr, great post numbers, and a freaking crazy 97 potential....

Since I have derozan I'm thinking try an get the high ceiling guy... But damn Wheeler can shoot like a mofo...

What do u guys think? Is a super high potential with a 72 overall worth it??? I'm on the clock so lmk

I'd go for the high potential. Can find other shooters but not many 97 overalls come around (if he makes it there with oven his peak age range)

....and with the first pick of the 2019 NBA Draft the Hartford Colonials select...
Shareef O'Neal!! Power Forward from Butler!

..what a shock, everyones draft boards had Wheeler going first but I guess Hartford saw something special about O'Neal... He will fit in great along side Derozan, Teauge, and Valanciunas...

Lol thanks. I needed that second op

I have started a ML with my expansion team the Las Vegas Owls. And i created myself and i am playing player lock. Im having a blast i must say. I got tired pretty fast of my career this year and this is another history.
We are the 5 seed in the western conference and is only the first year. Im looking forward to sign some stars in free agency.

I've actually done a bunch of practice runs myself. I'll be starting mine forreal after the trade deadline. I do the same as you I don't choose top players and I increase the number of protected players so teams stay relatively the same. To get around not having a rookie I usually start with a regular team and expand in the offseason, that way I get a rookie in year 1 and still have a team that doesn't disturb much of the nab rosters.
