After nearly 20 years, I'm done...

I've been a part of the NBA2k community going all the way back to the beginning on the Dreamcast. For the better part of two decades, the NBA2k series has been the best basketball experience ever, both online and through the single player modes. I STILL have the T-Shirt I won for being in the top 64 in the CollegeHoops2k3 (I think) tournament.

However, I simply cannot tolerate the current iteration of this series any longer. Broken gameplay, a reliance on glitches, and quite frankly YES, an increasingly obvious rubberband AI, have left NBA2k in a place similar to NBALive (or even Madden). Make a buck, (in my case a LOT of bucks) and the players will keep coming back, right 2KSports? Not anymore.

Today I finally uninstalled NBA2k17. I'm done. It's been a great time, but its painfully obvious this game is no longer meant for me. (The bigger question is: who IS it meant for?) I regret nothing, except maybe letting myself be subjected to this just a LITTLE too long. I'm not interested in the class action suit (which may actually have some legs, from a legal perspective), or even necessarily changing anyone's mind. I think we all know it... the game is, by default, the best out there. That's no longer good enough. The lack of competition has totally destroyed everything that made it so amazing. NBA2k needs something to dethrone it for a while so it can get back its fire.

I'll be there when that thing hits... having a great time!

Look at my join date. I was here same time as you. Do you remember that feeling of brand new graphics on dreamcast and brand new basketball game. Gameplay was amazing. 2k was everything that nba live wasnt. Brand new company, hungry, amazing gameplay, improvements with every version. Do you remember when they sold their game for 20 dollars while competing with nba live so everyone could try it? Amazing times, they really cared about their product and wanted to showcase it. Nfl2k5 was a masterpiece. Today nba2k is what nba live was back then...money grabbing piece of software.....and o understand its business. What about servers though? They have been horrible for the last years. This years game is the worst its ever been when it comes to rubberbanding equalizer and server stability and they just dont care. I really hope nba live jumps on this opportunity to release an awesome game so i can move on. Gameplay of 2k17 is still great but equalizer and server stability and customer service is horrendous. That idiot ronnie needs to be fired to. Everytime i see his posts with celebrities. And stupid events its like being spit on considering the state of the game now.

Iv been playing this franchise from day 1 and it was amazing to cheer for them going against live. They were making all the right moves.........but i cant wait to cheer for the next franchise and give my money to because they have been treating their fans like ****.

No doubt about it, the early 00s were a crazy exciting time for games! I adored the NFL2k series (Charlie Batch to Herman Moore!) and was so excited to see how aggressively 2k worked to woo users from EA. I still think the downfall of the Dreamcast was one of the most unfortunate demises of any video game system I've seen.

Moving ahead a bit, I wasn't happy when EA took exclusive football rights. I knew that a monopoly would mean bad things for that sport... and it did. Madden became increasingly insufferable. Furthermore, while there hasn't been an outright monopoly on basketball, the weak attempts by EA to revive the Live series haven't even been close to competitive with 2k. We're headed down that monopoly like path here, and its really starting to show in the gameplay.

It will be amazing when a competitor truly does rise up and challenge 2k. I'm not so sure EA has it in them... but someone will. I look forward to it!

im not trying to hate on ya'll but i really don't understand all the hate lol... yes the v.c thing sucks and yes it's easy to cheat but a lot of games are. the gameplay is not anywhere near as horrible as people act like it is.. and aside from nba2k14 this game is damn near best basketball game ever. but whatever.. 2k got a fan in me.

I am getting close to hanging it up too. Not so much because of 2k, but because I no longer have the time to devote. I couldn't bear to play this game with a bunch of scrubs after going several iterations with the best cards in the game that took a lot of time to acquire.

The game play this year is pretty ridiculous. If they had just kept what they had last year and slapped a 2k17 on the cover nobody would be complaining. It reminds me of the High Heat baseball series, that was great until they "fixed" the game to make it portable for consoles. That was the last year they made a game because it became trash, and people will still play a 13 year old version of HH2k3 to this day.

I'm done after this year because of time and 2k's lack of development. I gave it one more chance. It no longer pays off to get invested in the game because after release they leave a ton of issues unresolved. They adjust the game according to VC sales, that's it. The talking twitter heads promoting the game don't even play it regularly. Take a week off from playing and you'll immediately realize how silly it all is.

Lowkey thinking the same, I got 600k Mt might sell it so i could at least make $150 back from this trash game.

The game is very good and they have added content like dynamic duo and moments challenges that pay really good Mt. They added collection rewards, removed restrictions on mto, and added more freelance play options etc. None of these are easy and many were asked for last year on this forum and others. Not everyone can agree that all those changes work but they are trying.

Instead of being negative all the time we need to be positive and give constructive feedback. Being negative is simple but look past the irritation and find out what works. Unfortunately forums like this tend to be filled with emotional negative posting. That does not help your perception of the game.

2k isn't perfect and the mystery around various things in the game is part of the reason why we get so frustrated. Patience and understanding are virtues that in our immediate gratification society we forget about. You may leave the game or you may not but we can't expect the impossible or we will all be disappointed.

you guys finally get it. Do not expect 2K to change one single thing next year. They sold more vc on this iteration of 2K then they have ever made.

they found a way to milk my career and my park players so much. and if you play both...

those moments challenges disappeared because the free MTO win glitch was patched. you guys did not realize the reason they kept dropping these big 10 K challenges that took several tries to complete during that short time span is because they wanted people to stop playing MTO until they patched that glitch.

people say 2K is getting stingy when the truth is they were just trying to distract everyone.

The techs, mysterious decks, and crap rewards ruin the Blacktop experience, the 5-out constant cuts to the basket and paint cheese + disconnect losses ruins MTO, those alone ruin the MyTeam mode.

Or maybe I did not notice because I was busy playing the last 7 moments challenges in the last 2 weeks that got me over 40k mt. 40k gets a pretty nice player right now. No one is being stingy.

Heads up to anyone that's fully committed, there's websites out there that would buy your MT coins off you. Might as well make something back from what ya spent, for the people who haven't foolishly lock in any collection.

Great points, problem is, 2k proved how amazing of a game they can create. They got lazy simple, it's sad as hell is why people are so emotional it's like shaq not working out seriously enough. Laker years he was amazing then got lazy and became shaq with the celtics
